Chosen: Beyond Fate x Sovereign of the Ashes Giveaway Collaboration
Hey friends! ✨
I have a question: do you know da Wey? Cuz my dear friend Wey recently launched her new novel, Chosen: Beyond Fate! So of course, I had to check it out to support a fellow cutie patootie! 😘 It ended up being really interesting for me, so I am here recommending it to all of you!

Chosen: Beyond Fate is an action-packed urban fantasy novel. The protagonist, Ji Jue, has had extremely bad luck since childhood. After the death of his parents, he was taken in by a kind-hearted lady and worked as a low-level mechanic to make a living before eventually earning his way into university through hard work.
Then one day, after getting involved in a car accident, the mechanical watch left behind by his parents activates, allowing Ji Jue to communicate with machines and read their mechanical memories.
Before he knows it, he somehow becomes a temporary worker at Skyrail Corporation, a mysterious company he has never heard of before. As Ji Jue tries to navigate his strange new life, he gets pulled into secret projects, sinister experiments, and the mystery behind his watch, all while uncovering more about his new identity as the “Chosen One.”
There are some interesting similarities between the main characters of both novels.
Sein and Ji Jue share a common trait: difficult beginnings and a formidable determination to reshape their destinies. Both had shitty luck early on in their lives, which shaped their characters and their resilience in a harsh world. Ji Jue, an orphan, and Sein, a child abducted at a young age, are forced to rely on their sharp minds and adaptability to survive and thrive. With grit and ingenuity, they refuse to succumb to their fates, choosing instead to forge their own paths to success despite the odds stacked against them.
The narratives of both novels are structured around a serial format with long-term foreshadowing. Each individual event, while a self-contained story in its own right, gradually uncovers deeper layers of the larger worldview. With each new revelation, readers gain a richer understanding of the political intrigue, power dynamics, and hidden secrets that govern the protagonists' realities.
That said, the two novels approach their stories very differently.
Chosen: Beyond Fate is a focused, plot-driven narrative built around a central mystery that Ji Jue is determined to uncover. Most of the characters introduced play an essential role in advancing the plot or deepening the mystery. Each encounter and revelation is tied to the larger narrative, making the progression feel like a slowly unraveling puzzle.
In contrast, Sovereign of the Ashes leans more into the exploration of the unknown. The story focuses on experiencing the vivid world in all its complexity, rather than narrowing the plot to one central goal. There’s a huge cast of diverse characters, some of whom may not play a significant role in the protagonist’s journey but contribute to the richness of the world.
The scale is also different. Conflicts in Chosen: Beyond Fate are fought on a smaller, more personal scale, with Ji Jue often facing challenges as an individual or as part of a small group. On the other hand, Sovereign of the Ashes often moves on a much grander scale, with major wars involving entire civilizations.
So while both novels share a dark and grim setting, the funny dialogues in Chosen: Beyond Fate provide moments of lightness that feel like a breath of fresh air in an otherwise stuffy room. It balances mystery, action, and humor really well.
Also, shoutout to Wey! Her translator’s notes are very detailed, with cultural insights and fun facts that give readers not only a richer understanding of the world but also a glimpse into Chinese culture. It definitely makes the whole reading experience even better! WEY TO GO WEY!
Overall, Chosen: Beyond Fate offers a refreshing concept to the genre with a protagonist who can communicate with machines. Honestly, I haven’t seen any other book like this one on Wuxiaworld.
The plot is a gripping mystery that slowly unravels, making you feel like you’re on the edge of your seat while you follow Ji Jue’s journey. It’s a slow burn that rewards patient readers, just like Sovereign of the Ashes.
A word of caution: blood and gore are part of the deal. So, if you're not a fan of them, you might have to skip the fight scenes or just avoid reading right before or after a meal. Haha!
TL;DR: Resident Evil or Parasite Eve, but hey, you’ve got a watch this time!⌚Pew pew!
