Gilaut laughed as if he found it amusing. "Cleanup? Hah…"
No one ever knew what might jump out in a cave like this, so it was natural to be prepared. Saying I only wanted to "finish things off" basically meant I wanted the experience without taking on much of the danger. My request was pretty shameless.
Unlike me, none of them could see the status window or gain levels by killing something, so it should be fine.
"Does that trouble you?" I asked.
"No, I can do that for you anytime!" Gilaut responded cheerfully.
Maybe because his Affection toward me was high, but Gilaut agreed without hesitation. The trolls, ogres, and orc skeleton soldiers lined up behind him all nodded in unison. It seemed they understood and approved.
Gilaut glanced back at them and gave a small shrug with his broad shoulders. Shadows rippled around the headless knight's armor.
"This is strange. They're being unusually friendly toward you," Gilaut commented.
"Friendly?"
"Yes. Not to our lord, not to me, but to you, someone they just met. Isn't that odd?"
Maybe it was. They weren't under my command. Naturally, I had never built up any Affection with them.
"That's not the only strange thing," Gilaut continued. "You know our lord vanished into the distance earlier, right?"
