Today I just was scrolling and ran across this, It was a joy filled suprised. Duoluo Dalu (soul land) is what got me into Chinese novels and wuxia novels specifically. Tang San is awesome and getting to read the 5th installment will be a blast!
Sad that I did not see the 4th but having Tang San back is going awesome to have. If you enjoyed soul land 2 and/ soul land 3. You will most definitely like reading about the man, the myth, and the legend Tang San once again.
I really hope this goes from VIP sneak peak to a release schedule soon!
Edit: I will keep the OG review I placed when this was in Sneak peak long ago. I finally go back to finishing this novel as I am a binge reader at heart, was very heart to read daily. So I held off till a few days ago and read through at a train pace lol.
So review from a reader who finished the novel.
If you have read the previous Soul Land you already have a grasp on the author's writing tendency - luckily the translation team is S teir and made up for retcons and continuity errors on the author's part very well.
The premise of the story is 100% Soul Land and Specifically Tang San. For those who don't understand or find TS weird and sometimes cringe in this story need to go ready Soul Land 1 (praise to the Bagel this can be found becaue of the Bagel). I don't want to spoil but every single one of TS's actions and character moments are singularly due to him trying to find his wife.
In what very much seems this author's way of confilt usually boils down to politics and less the pure dog eat dog mentality. We get to see a lot of political moves and actions which was a suprise but honestly enjoyable ones. Fight scenes are not as . . . Detailed? . . . Expounded upon? . . . Pretty much fights are a bit bland yet get the point across.
I wouldn't recommend a first time Soul Land reader to read this novel, got to atleast read soul land 2: Unrivaled Tang sect, to get the vibe of TS and if you go find soul land 1 would 100% reccomend reading because it shows who and how TS operates so the hype moments in this novel hit better.
Those looking for Er Gen levels of writing probably just move right along, you really won't find here. Yet those who want to experience their first dive into Wuxia again I can't reccomend enough.
So in the end I reccomend you should read this but with the few prerequisites to fully enjoy. I am now going to go feel a bit lost about the end of Soul Land.
