Charlotte suddenly realized that she was a sinner not only in the eyes of the empire, but to all of humanity in that era.
She had been swayed by mere familiarity and trust, by insignificant attachment. She had nurtured a cancer that would eat away at the empire.
Without Reinhart, she might also have awakened as the Demon King long ago and caused another bloodbath.
“You can’t understand me, can you?” Charlotte said softly, consumed by self-reproach, her voice conveying her wretched feelings.
“I don’t understand your actions, but I also don’t know what you’ve been through.”
