Theo pushed the Supreme Monk along, leaving the others behind. It wasn’t a story that should be overheard, and he needed time to sort it out in his head. They didn’t speak until they had reached a quiet clearing, accompanied only by the squeaks of the wheelchair.

Theo brought them to a stop. “How long have you been on this continent?”
The question came out of nowhere, but the Supreme Monk didn’t flinch. Rather, his white eyebrows gathered together like he was worrying over something. Theo waited a few seconds.
The leaves blew around him as the old man replied, “Before I answer that question, I want to let you know one thing.”
“What is it?”
The Supreme Monk looked straight into Theo’s eyes. “I’m sure that you’ve guessed my origin, but I’m the Supreme Monk. I hope you don’t confuse me with the person you've met before.”
Theo examined him. “Then you are separate entities?”
The Supreme Monk nodded. “Yes. I’m an avatar born from Prometheus’ divinity, but each self has an independent ego. The avatar you met in the West Continent is a different person.”
