Picture 1.1: The Three Dantian Fields
In Chinese cultivation theory, the human body has three key energy centers, called dantian fields, which store and refine the fundamental energies of life:
Lower Dantian (Abdomen) – Stores essence (精), representing physical vitality and foundational life force. Strengthening and purifying the essence here provides a stable base for all further cultivation.
Middle Dantian (Chest) – Houses Qi (气), the vital energy that flows through the body. Regulating and circulating Qi ensures smooth energy movement, power, and resilience.
Upper Dantian (Between the Brows) – Contains Spirit (神), representing consciousness, awareness, and higher perception. Awakening and stabilizing the spirit enables spiritual insight and connection to higher energies.
Breaking through the Three Dantian Fields means harmonizing these energies: essence, Qi, and spirit are refined, strengthened, and fully integrated, forming the core of a cultivator’s power.
