The Three Meridian Gates

Picture 1.2 & 1.3: Human Acupuncture Points and The Three Passes

Three Meridian Gates / Three Passes (三关) along the Du Meridian

The Three Meridian Gates are key barriers along the Du Meridian, the central channel running along the spine. They control the flow of energy between the dantian fields, and opening them is essential for advancing cultivation:

Tailgate Pass (Weiguan) – At the base of the spine (coccyx), this is the first gate. Passing it allows the essence from the lower dantian to rise.

Spinal Gate (Yaoguan) – Located at the waist, this central gate governs the circulation of Qi throughout the body. Passing it requires focused energy and heat to regulate and expand the flow of vital energy.

Jade Pillow Pass (Yuzhen Guan) – At the back of the head (occipital bone), this final gate allows energy to reach the upper dantian, unifying and refining spirit.

Breaking through the Three Meridian Gates means forcing these gates open so that essence, Qi, and spirit can circulate freely, merge, and transform. This unification at the spiritual core marks a major leap in cultivation, where a practitioner’s energies are fully refined and synchronized.
