The doctor and I have been hiding in the morgue for half a month. I have been on tenterhooks with every passing day.
During this period, we ventured to the upper floors of the hospital and stole some food and water.
The morgue is on the first basement level. Through our exploration, we discovered that the hospital also has a second basement level.
The entrance to the second basement level was blocked by a password-protected door. Probably only the director knows the code.
The good news is that the doctor applied some kind of chemical agent, which made the director’s fingerprints visible on the keypad. That confirmed the passcode was four digits long and composed of the numbers 4, 6, 8, and 9.
Over the past half month, the doctor and I kept trying different combinations. Whenever the director showed up, we would hide in the morgue.
The director had visited the morgue as well. Judging by the sounds, he was loading corpses onto a cart and wheeling them off somewhere.
Could that be the second basement level?
At last, the two of us cracked the code.
The second basement level turns out to be a laboratory. Three rows of nutrient tanks line the space, within which are suspended human cadavers, animal carcasses, and unidentifiable, writhing lumps of flesh.
The doctor says it is highly likely that someone has been conducting experiments on the zombie virus here, but all these aren’t enough. There should be lab reports, too.
The doctor and I split up. She searches for digital copies of the reports on the computers, while I rummage through cardboard boxes.
Inside one of the boxes is a peculiar document. My face is printed on the cover, and the title reads: No. 78 Zombie Virus Experiment Report.
The test subject is…me?!
Experiment Results: The subject exhibits signs of life, is infectious, and is now missing?
I show the report to the doctor. She falls silent for a long time. In the end, we both decide to flee the hospital tonight.
Time is running out.
Taking a day off.
