This would be my favourite novel here on Wuxia I've read to date. And I've read over a dozen titles here so far. I can only really give high praise for it and I believe it is deserved.

The MC is evil in a real and refreshing way. He can be good if he feels like it. But will generally be selfish and even cruel if it suits.

The story is very creative (doesn't feel painfully repetitive) and unlike many others the quality doesn't decline over time or towards the end.

The ending was quite satisfying but I warn it may like myself leave you wanting more.

The translation is high quality even among those of wuxia.

If you like magic, unique and in depth worlds with vivid descriptions that suck you in and seeing somebody rise from the weakest of origins grow into somebody to be feared combining myths and legends this is for you.

This is a different change and pace of novel than the other ones on here. While you can make a case of calling other main characters in novels a heroic or a good figure, you can't call Leylin in any good characteristic.

While many readers have a problem with his characters as they feel like he's a bit bland and robotic character who heavily relies on his AI, I didn't mind it like some people and even enjoyed it.

He is an immoral character who will do anything and I mean anything to reach his goals which turned off some readers.

His some actions were hard to stomach for some of you new readers so I may advise that.

While we don't have a recurring cast of side characters, I feel like that's for the better as I've read many novels fail to make interesting side characters and fail to develop them.

Like with other novels here, I haven't read this since it finished so I may be forgetting and overlooking details but I assure you that it's a worthwhile read.

All in all, I strongly recommend it to newbie readers who may be looking for something darker than other novels here. While some veterans find it subpar.

I love this novel to death. Somehow, this novel really stayed with me, and i'm still actively recommending it to fellow readers. In most novels, you will have a dark world with law of the jungle and so on and so on, but this... this is a whole new level. The MC isn't just ruthless, he is actually inhumane (as are most cultivators in this novel), far more than other MC's. But since the MC is actively identifying himself as evil, the negative effects are clearly portrayed as well; the problem with "good" cultivators, war, and the constant backstabbing of your own allies; trust is almost non-existent. Additionally, the protagonist experiences actual setbacks in cultivation. When he goes on treasure hunt, there is actually a way for him to come back empty-handed, or even with losses and no benefits. That is also a reason why i think this novel is so unique. The difficulties he encounters are also real difficulties;only his constant and meticulous planning gets him through situations that would have killed most main characters of other novels.

My only critique is the very obviously rushed ending. It is short and the explanations are lacking, though it is a proper ending with logic and reason behind it; just not very fleshed out.
