Chapter 5 - Small Request

Back in the student affairs office, Zhang Bin’s parents were furious when they heard what had transpired. Zhang Bin’s father shouted angrily, “My son’s Core has been shattered, and now his divine realm is lost forever! You better have a good explanation for this!”

The head of the student affairs department, Xu Mei, calmly explained, “According to our understanding, your son Zhang Bin was the one who invaded Han Wu’s divine realm. There are also records of your son bullying Han Wu numerous times in the past.”

Zhang Gang rose and released his divine authority as a Demigod out of anger. “Are you saying that my son alone is at fault? Are you really telling me that the school will not be held responsible at all for the incident? My son’s Core has been shattered! Are you really that irresponsible?”

Xu Mei was also a Demigod, but she specialized as a support so she wasn’t as strong as Zhang Gang.

“Mr. Zhang, that’s not what I meant. In regard to Zhang Bin’s shattered Core, the school is prepared to provide a single Divine Essence as compensation. While I understand that it’s not much, I hope that you will accept it as an apology from the school.”

“That’s not enough!”

Still, after hearing that they would obtain a Divine Essence, Zhang Gang’s anger dissipated slightly.

A single Divine Essence was equivalent to 100 million Divine Points or 10 quadrillion Faith Points. That being said, for a Demigod who specialized in invasions, a single Divine Essence wasn’t something extremely precious.

Zhang Bin’s mother Du Rong hissed at Xu Mei. “Not only will we take the Divine Essence, but you must also expel the student who shattered my son’s Core!”

Xu Mei frowned. Han Wu would be defenseless without the school’s protection. Zhang Bin’s parents would be able to do as they pleased in that case.

Xu Mei would’ve expelled Han Wu without hesitation if it weren’t for the fact that she had noticed the Elite Bomber Locusts in Han Wu’s divine realm. A student without power or money wasn’t important to the school. However, the video showing Han Wu destroying Zhang Bin’s Core had spread through the entire grade.

Most of the teachers agreed that Han Wu had some potential. As long as he increased the number of Bomber Locusts within his divine realm, there was a high chance that Han Wu would be able to become one of their strongest students—strong enough to be counted among the top twenty strongest students of the year.

Xu Mei had to reconsider punishing a talented student like him. While Han Wu might’ve been extreme in his methods, there wasn’t anything wrong with it considering how long he had been bullied.

Xu Mei refused to be pressured by their demands. “I cannot grant your request to expel him.”

Du Rong was furious. She stood up and scolded Xu Mei, “How dare you protect an evil student like him that destroys the Cores and severs the potentials of his fellow students! Is this really how this school teaches its students to behave?”

Xu Mei frowned. “Madam Du, do not twist the truth here. Han Wu has always been an obedient student. We have several pieces of evidence showing that your son Zhang Bin had been repeatedly and consistently bullying Han Wu.”

“Don’t you dare talk to me like that. I will ask you one last time. Will you be  punishing Han Wu or will you not?”

Du Rong was furious, but because she wasn’t a Demigod yet, her empty threats were meaningless to Xu Mei.

“I apologize. We will not expel Han Wu.”

Du Rong was frustrated and complained to Zhang Gang. “Gang, do something! Zhang Bin is also your son. Will you really not do anything to avenge him?”

Zhang Gang sighed. “Miss Xu, I can understand the school not punishing Han Wu, but as the victims of this event, we must bring him to justice! If you cannot even grant us this small request, then I will no longer keep the school’s reputation in mind when I handle it personally!”

While Zhang Gang made it sound like a small request, Xu Mei was certain that Zhang Gang would kill Han Wu without any remorse if she didn’t accept their request. As a Demigod, even if he killed Han Wu, all he needed to do was to pay some fee as compensation.

Han Wu wasn’t from a wealthy or influential family. Even if he died, no one would exact justice for him. In the end, nothing would happen.

However, Xu Mei was the head of student affairs and greatly appreciated Han Wu’s talent. She would never let him die now.

“What do you have in mind, Mr. Zhang?” Xu Mei asked him.

“Easy. I will send a troop consisting of 1000 units to invade his divine realm. Regardless of the outcome, I will not pursue him any further on this matter.”

One thousand units didn’t sound like much, but Xu Mei understood that this was 1000 units coming from a Demigod. Their individual strength would be vastly greater than the troops of a novice like Han Wu.

Xu Mei observed Zhang Gang’s attitude and knew that he wouldn’t compromise on this any further so she had to relent.

“I will inform Han Wu about this. It’s up to him to decide.”

“I don’t have a lot of time. I will wait one day. If I don’t hear back by tomorrow, I will act on my own.”

Zhang Gang promptly teleported back home with his wife and son after that.

Xu Mei sighed to herself. “Han Wu, will you be able to save yourself? A thousand units from a Demigod is more than enough to fight against 50,000 units from a regular student. Can you hold up against such a force?”

Meanwhile, back at Han Wu’s place, given his newfound abundance of resources in his newly expanded divine realm, he had been repeatedly using Increased Growth in order to vastly increase the number of locusts in his possession.

He now had a staggering 4,812,000,000 locusts. He had 4.8 billion Common locusts, 5.7 million fire-resistant Common locusts, 5.8 million Elite Bomber Locusts, and 500,000 Magma Locusts. Additionally, he had roughly 10 billion more eggs ready to hatch, which he would’ve hatched if he didn’t need to consider the limits of his divine realm.

He was about to use Sacrifice again when he received a call. He checked the name and was surprised to find that it was the head of student affairs, Xu Mei.

After Han Wu accepted the call, Xu Mei’s face popped out. She then explained Zhang Gang’s demands to him, stressing that this was the limit as to how much the school could protect him.

Han Wu was certain that she was telling the truth.

If the school didn’t care they would’ve expelled him immediately. There was no need for them to force Zhang Gang to come up with such a roundabout demand just to kill him.

However, a thousand units from the army of a Demigod wouldn’t be easy to deal with.

Han Wu was uncertain that he could win even with his 500,000 Magma Locusts.

But he couldn’t refuse this “request.” Or rather, if he refused, he would have to defend himself against a Demigod who had abandoned all pretense and taken matters into his own hands.

“Thank you for your help. I will accept the challenge tomorrow at school.”

Han Wu then hung up and checked the time. It was 23:30 pm.

It was time for him to use Sacrifice again.

Han Wu raised his hand as the array of Sacrifice lit up in the skies once more. All 4.8 billion Common locusts and the 5.7 million fire-resistant Common locusts were sacrificed.

Three more rewards appeared in front of Han Wu and his eyes lit up.

“As expected. The rewards from sacrificing 4.8 billion locusts aren’t normal at all.”

Chacha's Thoughts

I should probably use this chance to talk more about the world building.

  1. Divine Realm: A pocket dimension world unique to those from the Divine Civilization. Can be used to nurture units and races.

  2. Core: Connects the divine realm to the Divine Being. Acts as a permanent beacon (without needing to sacrifice 1000 psykers)

  3. Core Race: The race that everyone gets at 18 years old. Type of race is random. Those with powerful races such as dragons, phoenix, etc are considered to be strong. Their strength gets affected by the type of Sacred Objects equipped to the Core. Other races that arrive later do not get affected by the Sacred Objects equipped to the Core, which inherently makes them weaker.
