I'm writing this review after reading the entire novel.

Technically, Glyphin's comment is quite accurate, so you can refer to it and the translators summary to have an idea about the author's themes of interest, and if it matches yours.

Its only flaw is forgetting to mention the novel is pretty well written, and keeps alternating between epic fights and plot twists. In that sense, it reminds me of "Immortal Devil Transformation", another rather short novel on this site.

Personally, i was hooked, always trying to guess the secret of the Split Zone, of its inhabitants and of the heroin's 2nd personality.

Be aware that, although the author will answer most of the reader's questions, they still left a few unanswered and opted for an open ending, either for you to imagine your own suitable closure for the story, or to allow for a sequel.

The translation is good, with minor editing mistakes here and there (missing words and typos, mainly).

In conclusion, i definitely would recommand reading this novel.

The story has an interesting premise where the female protagonist, Li Shen, finds herself in a dream-like world and works to demystify it. And while I'm only around 60 pages in I'm closing the book.

Without giving away any spoilers I'll just say the following:

- Conflict is mostly between people but is not very physical. It's more about perceptions and feelings (control, purpose, insights emotional validation, that sort of thing). In other words, trying to figure out the good vs bad people, picking sides, and trying to be recognized for one's intentions, character and worth.

- Emotional descriptions are micro coded. For example, the author pays attention to spacings between opponents, eye flutter, gaze, tone of smiles, that sort of thing.

- Aggression mostly resolves through dialog. The physical aggression that does take place is mostly meaningless. Under usual circumstances, characters can be hurt but not killed.

There is death but the deaths are generally mysterious due to certain parties understanding the rules of the space better than the protagonist. Mostly though, it's about Li Shen stumbling around blind in a dark and dismal space while she works through her feelings about herself, her possible romantic interests while a bunch of people mysteriously die.

Anyway, not for me, but might be for you.

Currently at chapter 20:

Intriguing story so far, good amount of mystery excited to learn more about the world and see the cast of characters develop.

The magic system is VERY soft so far, basically hard to predict what can be done by characters at any moment. I don’t think that’s the focus of the story so it’s not an issue for me.

There are annoying character comments here and there which serve to stoke Chinese cultural sensibilities but otherwise have basically no purpose for the plot or character development. Just really interrupts the flow of scenes and cuts back on the immersion for me. Like two characters will be interacting and I’ll be trying to piece together intentions/unspoken details and then it’s interrupted by some random information. Furthermore there is no change in formatting for a lot of these lines so I can’t skip them.
