People will say the the novel is a recycling of tropes. So what? Yes, the plot line is that of many wuxia novels, but, most crucially, the plot is entertaining and fun. What more do you want than a novel to engage its reader?

The translation is also excellent, if a bit slow. Read this novel because it can be followed easily, and the author adds in sub-plots that do not feel like fillers. This is a boy who finds the legacy of Asura Gate until it’s the story of Xiaolong going to other worlds until it’s the story of Xiaolong the alchemist.... — the story is constantly refreshed by new characters, worlds, and desires.

This is a fine novel, and worthy to be read. There will always be people who complain — ignore them. Those who offer criticism are welcomed, though: and that’s it: the story does follow simply and have basic structures that repeat, this isn’t Joyce or Tolkien, but the story maintains the ability to intrigue, and you want yo follow along with HX’s journey.

Invincible is one of those novels chock full of filler. Furthermore, arrogant young masters, jade beauties and the like abound, though the protagonist pursues the main heroine for most of the novel. For some reason, the heroine constantly joins factions more powerful than Huang Xiaolong who always threaten and are antagonistic to him. The beginning of the novel is enjoyable, but it gets repetitive and full of filler after a while. It's the same cycle of growing stronger, provoking someone stronger, often for the most inane of reasons, crushing their subordinates who are always slightly stronger than the MC, then finally leveling up enough to crush the antagonist, only for a new one to pop up very quickly.

Posting this review as of reading Chapter 1440.

TLDR

Starts off pretty good, then rapidly runs out of ideas.

The author just reuses the same schlock over and over again, rotating through explore for treasure/tournament/shopping ad nauseum. The exploration bits are a bit better, but the tournament and shopping gags got real old real fast.

***getting into some spoilers ahead***

*Huang Xiaolong is the Main Character so I may shorten to HXL or MC interchangeably.*

The good

1. Nobody hates playing on creative

There is a lot of places in this story and the exploration is really the only decently interesting thing this novel does after the first few hundred chapters.

The bad

1. "I don't even know who you are."

When people use the expression to fly under the radar that just means that they are trying to keep from drawing unnecessary attention to themselves, but our MC takes it to the whole next level to the point where he lands his jet and drives it along the interstate instead of flying at all. HXL insists on hiding all his abilities to the point where absolutely nobody knows who he is all the time, which is the primary source of conflict in almost every scenario. If he bothered to reveal his true ability he would be rapidly recruited into the highest tiers of the universe where he could safely cultivate without some random arrogant nobody bothering him, but he constantly hides his value to the point of absurdity. Most of the other problems with this novel are derived from this one in some way, and leads to a lot of the stupidity and filler and repeated arcs.

2. showmethemoney 99999

Fairly early on the MC gets his hands on a treasure that lets him just rip money out of the void so he has infinite money which leads to repetitive scenes where the MC goes to some shop/restaurant/auction whatever to buy something only to run into some random arrogant nobody who doesn't believe he has any money just so that the MC can drop huge piles of cash on the ground like the garbage it is.

3. Mario your princess is in another castle

The MC seems to pick up girls who are constantly headhunted by more and more powerful organizations because of their talent, and those organizations inevitably look down on HXL and tell him he isn't worthy and the girl is getting married off to the young master/chief disciple or whatever. This is repeated at LEAST 6 times off the top of my head.

4. The not-so-secret cow level

This wasn't a problem out the gate, but something introduced a bit later. He acquires a pet cow who just knows everything and has an answer to all problems and is generally ultra boring and trivializes any problem that might pop up because the little cow already has a handy answer. After the emergence of the little cow our character no longer has to hunt for any answers because he has a convenient plot device to move him along right there.

The ugly

1. pepesilvia dot jpeg

The author seems to come up with a lot of character ideas that are not fully thought out, and so they appear for a little bit and then are rapidly discarded or forgotten, only to be reintroduced later not as a fully fleshed out character but more like a simple plot contrivance because the author couldn't figure out a better way to transition the story. This story is generally lacking any good character development for any side characters, and almost all conversation is "you dare!?" and exposition from the little cow. The flow of events doesn't feel particularly natural and is more like a hodge-podge of related ideas jammed together because they seemed decent individually.
