Su Yi narrowed his eyes, then met the delicate youth’s gaze without backing down in the slightest. “Is that painting your work?”
“In the face of absolute boredom, painting is the only way to pass the time,” laughed the youth.
“It’s terrible,” said Su Yi.
The delicate youth froze, then glowered. “What’s wrong with it?”
“Ants are ants. They’re among the countless living beings in this world. Were an ant capable of trampling the universe beneath its feet, would it still be an ant?” Su Yi asked flatly.
“Why wouldn’t it be?” The delicate young man frowned and argued, “The whole point of this painting is that even the humblest of ants has an opportunity to transcend the Grand Dao!”
Su Yi snickered. “Never mind an ant, how many of the countless people in existence will ever be able to trample a universe beneath their feet?”
Before the youth could respond, Su Yi continued, “These paintings of yours might seem like they’re full of spirit, or like you’re seeing the greatness in the smallest of creatures, but in truth, they’re hollow and unrealistic!”
He then gestured to another painting on the walls. It depicted a fish jumping out of the water and devouring celestial bodies.
