Zhang Sheng, a peerless prodigy, was just going about his business when he accidentally altered the fate of Wei Yuan, a baby boy who had just been born in the Wei estate. Their karmas became permanently bound since, and the master and disciple would eventually go on to change the world.

As the author’s unserious synopsis summarized rather succinctly, this is a novel about an industrial revolution unfolding in a Xianxia world. The beginning of the story starts off in what seems like another Xianxia/Wuxia world, but it quickly becomes apparent that things aren't quite what they seem. If you pay close attention, you'll notice sprinkles of “Huh?” here and there that keeps you intrigued. I really don’t want to spoil anything, but let's say it's something like finding a digital watch in the Middle Ages. Later, in two hundred chapters or less if memory serves me right, Wei Yuan would stumble upon one of the sources of the incongruity and open his eyes to the almighty power of industrialization. From that point onward, it's it’s “Oh? You’re bringing a sword to a gunfight? How cannon of you!”, baby!

Official Blurb
Wei Yuan had no grand ambitions, but swept along by the currents of his era, he found himself marching across the land and conquering new territories until he had traversed every mountain and pass, all before he grew old.
Unserious synopsis 1: Even immortals are afraid of industrialization! This is an industrial revolution unfolding in a fantasy world.

Review as of the first 20 chapters. So far the story is well written and the translation is great.

A bit on the story, Wei Yuan is born just as strife is about the befall the world.

No isekai, thankfully, and their are only a few chapters covering his birth and meeting his teacher at the age of 3. Afterwards it enters the first real arc, which is the contest to join a sect.

With just 20 chapters, we already have some strong action and believable conflicts - people fighting over benefits and not just face slapping (well excluding some actual slapping towards the end of the 20 chapters haha).

It's a bit early to really characterize Wei Yuan, however it's clear he isn't adverse to violence when needed.

Anyway, I'm definitely looking forward to more chapters being released!

Honestly, I have no idea what the synopsis is talking about, which is also why I delayed writing this review.

I’ve read around 90 chapters so far, and the novel is fantastic. However, there’s been almost nothing resembling industrialisation, future technology, or anything similar to what the synopsis suggests. Instead, it’s currently a very well-crafted xianxia novel that uses familiar story elements but executes them exceptionally well.

The characters are surprisingly fleshed out, even the arrogant “young master”-type side villains. The author puts real effort into giving people believable motivations, and while I still don’t enjoy those characters’ screentime much, the novel maintains a solid balance between progressing the main plot and dealing with minor antagonists.

There’s also an ongoing mystery woven throughout the story, along with long-term goals that keep things engaging. Beyond the protagonist, there are several genuinely fun and memorable characters, and the MC himself is quite likable.

The pacing does slow down at certain points, but it’s bearable, and the payoff has absolutely been worth it so far, in my opinion. The chapter I’m currently on was the culmination of many previous plot threads, and it finally convinced me to leave a review because this novel genuinely deserves more positive attention.

At least so far, I’d recommend reading this as a high-quality xianxia first and treating the “industrial revolution” aspect as something that likely develops much later, for which I'm quite apprehensive.

ALSO!! The translator, Xuanhearts, is always a joy to see, very upbeat and responsive. They quickly fix any typos, are clearly well-versed in the story they’re translating, and often reply to comments and engage with the community. If there was a Wuxia-world translator power-rankings they would have my vote.

Tentative review as of chapter 56 and double-checked at chapter 123:

So far so good. The worldbuilding is quite decent and I'm definitely hooked, but I have to duck some points for refusing to even hint at the marketed plot during this time.

I came here fully expecting industrial revolution shenanigans but so far it's just a textbook Xianxia. The main (and IMO only) hook so far is the otherworldly fortune that got introduced in the first chapter. It's pretty much singlehandedly driving the plot progression which is a somewhat questionable choice.

However, the writing is grounded and the worldbuilding is done quite well too. So in short, this novel definitely has some legs to stand on but it remains to be seen how well the author will execute on the premise of the novel (that being industrialisation).

I will say, however, that having the confidence to do a slow and methodical start before jumping into that core theme is somewhat reassuring in a way. It's like a polite "just let me cook for a bit" that has me looking forward to the payoff to the start.
