Although Kalain, cloaked in his black robe, normally stood out in the white expanse, he was nowhere to be seen.

No.

Kalain hadn’t been in any condition to ascend on his own. Even with the blinding snowstorm limiting visibility, he couldn’t have slipped out of my sight in such a short amount of time.
