Outside the bedroom door, after a bout of crying, Ms. Lake kept opening her mouth and taking deep, silent breaths. She then fiercely wiped her tears away with the back of her hand. She propped herself up off of the floor, and climbed to her feet. Then, she headed to her daughters’ bedroom.

Karon stood behind the bedroom door. Sigh, so she still found out.

He was not very disappointed. The two had lived together as husband and wife for so long that it was only normal for the woman to notice that her husband had been replaced with someone else. It was not disappointment Karon felt at all, but instead a sense of relief and release.
