Chapter 1336: Reuniting As Planned

The Fourth Mountain and Sea controlled the cycle of reincarnation in the Mountains and Seas. Everyone who died in the Mountain and Sea Realm would enter the Yellow Springs, which became the river of reincarnation that led to the Fourth Mountain and Sea. There, the newly arrived spirits would be guided into the cycle of reincarnation, where they would eventually find a new home.

There were many myths and legends regarding the Fourth Mountain and Sea. It was a mysterious place, one that most people could never fully comprehend. The only thing most people knew was that the Mountain and Sea Realm’s peak expert resided there.

His name was Ksitigarbha!

He was the Lord of the Fourth Mountain and Sea. He controlled the underworld, and he controlled reincarnation. Even among Mountain and Sea Lords, he held a preeminent position. And that was because essentially… he controlled the lives of everyone in the Mountain and Sea Realm!

The Fourth Mountain and Sea was an important node which allowed the Realm to form a complete cycle.

This was Meng Hao’s first time coming to the Fourth Mountain and Sea, and as soon as he entered, he could sense a very faint, and yet very pure, aura of death.

Or perhaps it would be better to say that it was not an aura of death, but an aura of Yin.

At first glance, nothing seemed out of the ordinary. The starry sky and the vast expanse seemed the same, and yet if you looked closely, you would see that the whole world appeared to be gray.

Meng Hao looked around silently, then sent his divine sense spreading out to cover the entire Fourth Mountain and Sea. However, there was one region in particular in which two powerful beings were fighting bitterly.

That was the location where Ksitigarbha was fighting the Outsider Imperial Lord. Meng Hao’s divine sense immediately provoked a reaction from both of them. As for the Outsider Imperial Lord, he reacted with rage, and he clearly wished to break free from the fight to try to slaughter Meng Hao.

However, Ksitigarbha prevented that. Furthermore, he spoke in a completely calm tone that brimmed with self-confidence.

“So, you’re Meng Hao!” the Outsider said.

“Fellow Daoist Meng,” came the voice of Ksitigarbha, “I can handle this Outsider!”

Meng Hao smiled. When war descended, flowers would bloom on all parts of the tree, not just on one branch.

Furthermore, one person alone could not change the entire war. No, that required a group effort.

Meng Hao clasped hands and bowed toward Ksitigarbha, then focused his divine sense on where the cultivators of the Fourth Mountain and Sea were battling the Outsiders.

Millions of Outsiders could be seen, as well as millions of cultivators from the Fourth Mountain and Sea. What was being fought was a spectacular and unprecedented battle.

Meng Hao saw Xu Qing there, surrounded by rings of guards. She hadn’t been injured in the slightest, and in fact, was constantly sending orders out to all parts of the battlefield. Because of that, the cultivators of the Fourth Mountain and Sea occupied the clear advantage on this front.

Although he was a vast distance away from Xu Qing, when Meng Hao looked at her, she could sense it. She turned her head and looked off into the distance, and somehow, her gaze met his.

In that moment, Meng Hao’s heart trembled. As he looked at Xu Qing, numerous memories rose up within him. There was the time on Mount Daqing, when they had met for the first time. Then the time in the Reliance Sect when he had given her the Cosmetic Cultivation Pill. In the Black Sieve Sect’s ancient Blessed Land, he had found her, trembling and helpless.

Outside of the Black Lands, where Choumen Tai had descended from the sky, the two of them had killed the Ji Clan Quasi-Array cultivator, and when they parted, tears had welled up in her eyes.

Meng Hao would never forget any of those things.

In the Rebirth Cave, when he was dying, Xu Qing took care of him, even sacrificing her own life force for him, all to give him a chance at another life. Even if her own soul dispersed, she was willing to pay that price for him. She even allowed herself to be imprisoned in the Black Sieve Sect.

During their Red Wedding, Meng Hao held her in his arms, watching her fade away. He cradled her as she passed into death, and the entire time, she only cared about her dream of marrying him.

Meng Hao trembled as the memories flitted through his mind like wind and lightning, causing his whole world to shake.

He had come to keep his promise. He had come! 1

He had promised to find her, even if he had to travel to the furthest reaches of the Mountain and Sea Realm. No matter what dangers he faced, he would find her and would once again stand at her side.

She promised to wait for him. If a life or a lifetime was not enough, then she would wait for him through all lives and lifetimes.

Other than his parents and sister, there was no one in his life for whom he would do so much. There was no woman whom he would worry so much about, nor anyone that could occupy such an eternal place within his heart.

Although he didn’t realize it at the time, back on Mount Daqing, when he saw her, the desire had already been planted within his heart… to be with her forever, through all lives and lifetimes.

Elder Sister Xu….

She was not spectacularly beautiful, but in Meng Hao’s eyes, in his world, she was the most beautiful thing in Heaven and Earth. She didn’t have a complicated heart, and the source of that was not any lack of intelligence, but rather, the fact that she liked things to be simple. And so did he. When he was most tired, most exhausted, simplicity was a quiet harbor within which to rest his soul.

Her smile, her voice, her eyes, everything about her, were firmly rooted in his heart, and made him smile.

“I know in my heart that the person I fell in love with is not just a fond memory, but you,” he murmured. “The real you. I know… that I love you.” With that, he took a step forward.

Unbeknownst to him, someone had appeared behind him at some point, a shadowy figure clad in a long black robe. That figure was now watching him make his way off into the distance.

It was none other than Slaughter.

When Slaughter saw how Meng Hao looked at Xu Qing, a flicker of reminiscence appeared in his eyes, as if he were considering some matter from the past. As if he was being reminded… of himself.

As Meng Hao walked forward, the world vanished. Heaven and Earth faded away. Natural law dispersed. Only one person remained. His wife, Xu Qing.

He had come from afar, passing through each of the great Mountains and Seas. He had proceeded along through the starry sky, step by step, and was now walking onto the battlefield. There were Outsiders who were in his path, but it wasn’t because they were trying to stop him; rather, he happened upon them as he proceeded toward the heart of the fighting.

A destructive power surrounded him that caused any Outsiders who approached within 30,000 meters of him to scream and explode.

Meng Hao paid them no heed. He proceeded along, surrounded by shouts of astonishment. As the Outsiders fell back from him, a strange scene developed on the battlefield.

With every step he took, he was surrounded by empty space, as the Outsiders fled from his presence.

The cultivators of the Fourth Mountain and Sea looked on with vigilance. Even though Meng Hao’s arrival caused the death of the Outsiders around him, they were still cautious.

There were only two people who had different reactions. One was the Echelon cultivator of the Fourth Mountain and Sea, Lin Cong. The other was, of course, Xu Qing.

Lin Cong stood in the crowd, wearing a gray robe. As he thought back to everything that had occurred in the Windswept Realm, he sighed. A wry smile could be seen on his face, and mixed emotions filled his eyes as he sighed. 2

“So, he finally came.”

Xu Qing was smiling radiantly. She stood there in the army of the Fourth Mountain and Sea, in the command pavilion, watching as Meng Hao approached. She remembered everything that had occurred, just as he did. Those memories could not be wiped away from her because of her reincarnation.

She had always believed that one day, her beloved companion, her husband, would come from the distant Ninth Mountain and Sea to find her. It didn’t matter how long it took or how far away he was. It wouldn’t even matter if a war was being fought. Nothing would be able to stop him.

He would definitely come.

And now, he had.

Xu Qing bit her lip and took a step forward, much to the shock of the surrounding cultivators from the Fourth Mountain and Sea. Some of them wanted to stop her, but as Meng Hao neared, they suddenly lost the ability to control their cultivation bases.

The battlefield went quiet, and soon only Meng Hao and Xu Qing were there, looking at each other, slowly drawing closer.

Time seemed to slow down. The Outsiders and the cultivators of the Fourth Mountain and Sea both watched as Meng Hao approached. Xu Qing stepped out of the command pavilion, and the two of them… were soon standing together.

“I’ve come,” he said, reaching out to grasp her hand. This was his wife, and his lifelong love.

“Yes,” she replied, her face flushing a bit. It took a bit of courage on her part, but she resisted the urge to look down shyly. Instead, she allowed her joy to radiate out, and she looked into Meng Hao’s eyes and smiled. This was indeed the happiest moment she had experienced since being reincarnated.

When Meng Hao saw Xu Qing smile, he couldn’t stop himself from smiling. His hands tightened around hers, and hers around his. It was as if neither of them wished to ever let go.

However, they both knew that the time they could spend with each other was short. No matter what they wished inside, they would have to let go. Xu Qing had her duties, and Meng Hao had his mission.

This was not the time and place. If only things could go back to how they were before, before the deadly war broke out in the Mountains and Seas….

Meng Hao sighed.

Xu Qing looked around at all of the cultivators from the Fourth Mountain and Sea, and the Outsiders, and slowly loosened her grip. “I can’t go with you right now….

“Wait for me…. If the day ever comes when this war ends, then we… can go home together.” Xu Qing suddenly stepped forward and wrapped her arms around him, resting her head on his chest to hear his heartbeat.

After a long moment passed, she looked up at him and said, “I’ll wait for you, and you wait for me. We’ll both be on the lookout for each other.”

Xu Qing bit her lip, then pulled away from Meng Hao’s embrace and returned to the command pavilion.

As Meng Hao looked at Xu Qing, he realized that there was something different about her from before. Much like himself… she had grown up, she had become mature.

Meng Hao’s heart was calm. Xu Qing had her duties, and he… had his mission. After looking at her deeply one last time, he waved his hand, sending a bit of divine will swirling out to surround her. He took a deep breath, and then looked up into the sky at the vast land mass up above that was the 1st Heaven.

Gradually, the warmth in his eyes faded away, to be replaced by icy coldness!

The air around him grew icy, and his aura, sharp and dangerous.

“There’s something I have to go do,” he murmured. “Something… that will lift the spirits of everyone in the Mountain and Sea Realm!” Rumbling sounds could be heard as he suddenly shot up into the air, leaving the battlefield. He became a streak of light like a shooting star, passing out of the Fourth Mountain and Sea, up into the vast expanse above. He was now heading toward the 1st Heaven, which had superseded the starry sky of the Mountain and Sea Realm.

He was going to destroy the 1st Heaven!

Few people noticed how he was flying up into the sky. However, it was certain… that a massive, storm would soon shake Heaven and Earth!

A storm was coming, a storm which would be caused by none other than… Meng Hao!

    1. “She didn’t have a complicated heart, but that wasn’t because she was stupid. ”

O.O so does Er Gen wants to say that she was really stupid? I don’t see saving Meng Hao or even marrying him as stupid. I prefer the word naive…

      1. I agree with you, the word naive would fit better 😡
But still that was cool (though I wanted them to kiss !), and I remarked something, they were separate when the were in the middle of a war, and now they reunite in the middle of a war that’s quite hard for them.
        Thanks for the chapter.

        1. I think the problem here is because Er Gen seems like he’s assuming everyone thinks along the lines of the causal relationship of: Simple minded people are simple hearted and vice versa.

He’s merely trying to deny this relationship in Xu Qing. She is simple hearted and not stupid.

From the rest of the text the message is probably more along the lines of: She is simple hearted, not because she cannot understand complicated things – but she merely does not like them/take them to heart. A reflection on her personality and not her intelligence.

        1. After looking at it again, the way its worded in Chinese leaves it unclear, but I’m pretty sure the meaning is that she is “not stupid.” So let me re-word this part again.

          1. I seem to remember there being a part in the story saying she did not liking complicated things for it could leave her confused. She would hide her lack of understanding behind her cold face.

AH! “When she was a little girl, she had realized that she wasn’t very intelligent, and in fact, sometimes very foolish. Therefore, she had mastered the ability to cover it up with a cold smile. She used coldness and silence to conceal her lack of intelligence, and to make the world a bit simpler.

She didn’t like complicated things, because she often didn’t understand them. She liked peace and quiet. She liked to practice Cultivation by herself. As she did so, she watched the years pass, observed the ebb and flow of life, and recalled beautiful memories from the past.” Thats from 150

I dono. The version of this girl I have come to understand over the last 1200 or so chapters would not be able to lead an army. xD

          2. Chapter 150.
“When she was a little girl, she had realized that she wasn’t very intelligent, and in fact, sometimes very foolish. Therefore, she had mastered the ability to cover it up with a cold smile. She used coldness and silence to conceal her lack of intelligence, and to make the world a bit simpler.
She didn’t like complicated things, because she often didn’t understand them.”
I just feel like this version of Xu Qing is not the same as the one I got used to in the last 1200 chapters. XD

      2. hehehehe they only thing interesting about this chapter was salughter stalking him
        ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ

      3. “O.O so does Er Gen wants to say that she was really stupid? I don’t see saving Meng Hao or even marrying him as stupid. I prefer the word naive…”

Even though she’s a dummy, she is somehow a master strategist. Like wtf.

      4. She’s stupid, the author has already mentioned this before in several times and ways and can’t take it back. There’s no explanation for her sudden surge of intelligence and talent for complicated stuff. She’s worthless and will always stay worthless, one of the most horrible female love interests I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen A LOT.

  1. This was great, I nearly cried. I now wish that they had more time to spend together.
Thanks for the chapter, and for the next one as well! 😀

  2. First half was literally flashbacks! Wish Er Gen skip it, as by now, all of us know their history intimately! The last part was funny! Outsider don’t destroy Meng Hao’s home, Meng Hao destroy yours!

  3. Any famous artists for fan arts or other kind of arts out there? Draw a pic of Meng Hao and Xu Qing in this chapter, please.
    Thanks for the chapter.

    1. I suspect that Meng Hao will talk to Ksitigarbha about her after all the 1st Heaven Outsiders are dead. To be specific, my expectation is that Meng Hao will destroy the 1st Heaven, then the Mountain and Sea Realm cultivators will kill the rest of the Outsider invaders, and then there will be a brief pause where some of the Mountain and Sea Realm cultivators make breakthroughs now that 6-Essence seal has been rendered null, before the barrier between the 1st and 2nd Heavens is lifted and Meng Hao fights his way through the rest of the Heavens.

    2. to be fair her soul is in tatters so he can’t revive her reincarnation needed full and complete soul….which is why when other enemies die it’s written they die in “body and soul” CYY died in body and her soul got…..hmmm….. how to say this…..shredded because of that sect.

  4. well… that was boring. er gen does a lot of things well, but romance isn’t one of them. I’ve just never really felt anything for their romance. it just always seemed shallow to me. like, they cared about each other way to much for the amount of interactions they had (yeah, yeah, write it off as love at first site). ke yunhai’s death affected me more than xu qing ever has. i don’t know, maybe i”m just not a romantic. This chapter just felt terribly underwhelming, it doesn’t help that half the chapter was unnecessary flashbacks.

    1. you’re not alone imo im a fan of romances, harems and all of that funky stuff in novels but Meng Hao and Xu Qing are probably the least interesting couple in all of Xianxia novels. at the start it seems neat, falling in love with the girl that kidnapped him, but afterwards it just gets generic, Chu Yuyuan or whatever her name was had much more experiences and adventures with Meng Hao, heck take ANY girl character in this novel that isnt Xu Qing, all of them had more interaction with Meng Hao than Xu Qing herself. So many wasted harem opportunities lmao, after reading a couple of hundred chapters from Renegade Immortal which is another work of this author I just feel like he’s doing this “nope no real romance or love or harems” type of shi just to attract a different fanbase

      1. Ok but to be frank NO OTHER GIRL HAD ANYTHING BETTER(maybe a little) but not a lot even in their “adventures” as you called it (they got thrown in a freaking cave because of some bird ლ(ಠ_ಠლ) ) nothing happened so what if they spent mounts together in a cave(in which by the way they didn’t even talk just cultivated and she tried to run away a little…) he spent more time in reliance sect with xu qing. but anyways my point is romance is completely empty in this novel xu qing,CYY,etc so why not just forget about it and move on. btw he is still a virgin AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

        1. well his amount of time as a virgin is nothing compared to qin yu. i don’t think i’ve seen someone who comes anywhere close to him on that lol.

          1. well they didn’t have longevity limitation like in ISSTH when they went to immortal world that would be that true immortal from there was just increase in strength and i always thought qin yu was bewitched by the girl……(saved him…..played some witchy melody…he fell in love….she went all blush blush and ENSLAVED HIM!!!!) oh and another thing qin yu stayed in that temporal tower of his most of time so not much interaction with outside world. meng hao is more out going i think

          2. IIRC, didn’t qin yu sit right BESIDE her for, like, a MILLION years making weapons during the marriage contest. she was catching up in cultivation while he was doing that. i may be wrong because this is from a summary thing i read years ago and haven’t gotten around to reading the actual translations. if so, that puts him on a completely different level than like any other MC. sitting next to your girl for a million years and still not hitting it.

          1. meng hao is a demi-god of virginity and qin yu is a full god or something higher lol

    2. It’s not really a romance so much as a rejection of romance, or rather, Er Gen pushing the idea that people can fall in love for very simple and arbitrary reasons that won’t move a bystander. Although it’s starting to feel a little repetitive to me, I’m optimistic that this is the last time Er Gen will waste half a chapter on explaining the nature of their love.

    3. Didn’t they spend a bunch of time in the Night sect together? I remember they were there for a few years if I remember right. Plenty of time for offscreen romance. But yeah, he sucks at romance. Maybe he knows and that is why it’s offscreen for the most part.

      1. whats the night sect? do you mean ancient demon sect? if so, he was out training his body and alchemy while she was learning daoist magics. in reliance sect, she was almost always in seclusion. in black seive sect, they only really met when he was leaving. in blood sect, i don’t really know what they were doing when she was healthy. a long time was her recovering, then another portion was her slowly getting closer to death because of the curse.

      2. No, not even there. She spent 99.99% of the time learning daoist magic that he brought for her and there was almost zero dialogue lines or conversations. It was even mentioned how they went about doing their own stuff and didn’t interact.

They had pretty much spent no time at all together talking or doing stuff before suddenly falling ridiculously deeply in love. There’s no reason for their intense feelings for eachother. Even love at first sight is beter than what this author is doing, where they fall in love and then develop their relationship properly before we get a chance to complain about the falling in love too quickly. There’s a process to love, it needs to be gradual to some extent and you NEED to have a lot of proper interactions and events and then reasons as to why they’re falling more and more deeply in love. But this author just suddenly turned them into an eternal couple that can’t live without the other person, instead of gradual, it was more of a on-off process where the switch was suddenly turned on. Horrible, terrible, it’s rare to find an author that is so utterly bad at romance.

The only saving grace is that there’s few scenes concerning her and the author just makes her into a minor side-character that shows up now and then for a chapter or two.

  5. Does anybody remember the part of the Seal the Heavens incantation that said that for each of the 33 heavens destroyed, his cultivation base would double? ´Cause that’s what I think is going to happen. ?

  6. “Those memories could not be wiped away from her because of her reincarnation.”

    ….. Because reasons..

TBH it would have been far more satisfying and amusing if she had forgotten (like everyone else who reincarnates, because let’s face it there’s no reason why their love should be any different from anyone else’s, it’s just their strength that’s different) and had fallen for someone else in her new life. Meng Hao’s confusion and upset would have been hilarious.

          1. Of course she is. But if she was then there would be no need to say that the memories couldn’t be wiped away. You reincarnate (no memories), hit immortal realm and regain memories.
To say that her memories can’t be wiped away by reincarnation implies she never lost them at all (or at least never lost the love for the man in the 9th seas even if she can’t remember a name/face).

  7. Thanks for the chapter Deathblade, anonpuffs, Madam Deathblade, GNE, Tsukihime, Shu, JerryDaBaws, and Baby Deathblade! I pity the 1st Heaven which picked the wrong time to start a mess. They aren’t going to die easy.

  8. Somehow, the attitude Meng Hao has toward the 1st Heaven reminds me of the attitude America had toward Japan after Pearl Harbor (which led to Hiroshima and Nagasaki). That’s human nature for you, and Er Gen really gets it.

    Thanks for the chapter.

  9. Most of the things I try to comment do not seem to get posted. D:

Anyway, from chapter 150, I just do not see how this girl can command an army. It just seems to not fit her caracter. I suppose that may come due to the translation. But that do not change how things feel to me.

“When she was a little girl, she had realized that she wasn’t very intelligent, and in fact, sometimes very foolish. Therefore, she had mastered the ability to cover it up with a cold smile. She used coldness and silence to conceal her lack of intelligence”

    1. You realize she was born into a new body and lived a lifetime, became an immortal and then regained her memories right? Intelligence is not just part of the spirit. Otherwise brain injuries would not be able to cause mental impairment. Just like how in some of his other novels, new bodies might have better ability in their compatibility with spiritual energy.

      1. Experience doesn’t give talent. It was said she had a gift for it, TALENT FOR IT, that’s not something you just suddenly gain, it’s something you’re born with, something latent. Don’t give me that sh*t, once stupid and foolish, always stupid and foolish. They might become slightly smarter, but she’d never get talented at it all of a sudden.

We all know she’s an introverted fool, that’s a basic part of her personality and not something that’d change all of a sudden.

  10. it just sounds so odd that they still use honorific after marriage, maybe cause i am not from that culture but still, calling your wife or husband sister or brother when they are infact married sounds so incest.

  11. “I came,” he said, reaching out to grasp her hand. This was his wife, and his lifelong love.

Damn, that was quick. Talk about premature…. I guess he is a virgin though lol

  12. w..and here i thought the romance of this novel would at least be better then 3rd -grade…(well it is still better then all the other novels-romance-plots “that i had read” combined. )

  13. TYVM for the chapter!

“She remembered everything that had occurred, just as he did. Those memories could not be wiped away from her because of her reincarnation.”

But what about her not wanting to remember without Meng Hao by her side and that the first thing she wanted to see when she awakened was his face? T.T I guess there was a change of plans or something…

  14. This is so bullshit. How could Xu Qing have grown up so fast? How could she of became an immortal so quick? There were no timeskips between her death and now. At best its only have been a few years since then. So the author’s telling us she not only grows up from a baby but also reached Immortal status within that short period of time??

I also love how Meng Hao said he was going to put off seeing Xu Qing because saving Chu Yuyan’s spirit was more important and time was of the essence. Yet here we are next to Xu Qing, and jack all had been done to save Chu Yuyan.

    This author’s absolutely infuriating.

    1. I believe you forgot that Xu Qing’s master is the second most powerful person in the whole Mountain and Sea Realm who controls the cycle of reincarnation itself. Of course Ksitigarbha has abundance resource for Xu Qing, not to mention the rich Yin aura which is very beneficial for woman. Meng Hao’s adventure itself had been continuing since the Fang betrayal incident until now which is thousands of years. Is that not enough for Xu Qing tu become an Immortal?

Oh come on, he was just meeting his wife not more than 5 minutes. And you assumed that long? Furthermore Meng Hao himself said he was incapable to gather up Chu Yuyan’s soul until he become the Lord of M&S.

Chapter 1336 already and you just thought the author is infuriating? Hahaha.

      1. Actually, if we go by the story and what the author has stated along with the fact that there was no time skips, there should be only a bit over a dozen years since meng hao was in the spirit severing realm with xu qing, at the very most two dozen. However, it’s clear the author didn’t give a f**k about there not being any time skips and made it seem as if many decades, even centuries, had passed after he got back to the south heaven planet last time. At MOST, even if the author made time pass way too fast without explanation, only a few hundred years had passed after xu qing died going by the age of the cultivators back on south heaven. But after the paragon blood was absorbed, not even a hundred years has passed, at most a few decades, because it was mentioned they’d come after 100 years and they haven’t come yet, it even seems they’ll come earlier than expected. What is even weirder is how the supposedly short time at the fang clan and after that was several hundred years for almost no improvement in cultivation, but the time after that which should be longer is just a few years…

This author has no grasp on time or numbers at all, he’s always been utterly worthless at that, along with romance and writing wars. According to him, a few hundred years might have passed, but thousands? What are you smoking? The mc shouldn’t even be a thousand years old yet.

    1. Couldn’t agree more. Seriously, she’s one of the most unlikeable characters in this entire novel and this author is horrible at romance, to the extent that it can ruin the whole novel. It actually made me drop the novel around chapter 700 because of how bad it was.

  15. YES! Only a 1 chapter reunion crap event. Man, I was about to get sick and vomit just from reading this short chapter. Really lucky that the author avoids romance most of the time since he’s so utterly horrible at it. Good… Seems he’s going to keep that pattern to the end and avoid having her involved in the story for real, being just a side-character that shows up now and then for a short time.
