WDQK Chapter 244~

Chapter 244

Alright, first things first, I would like to apologize for the *** fiasco 2 chapters back, in chapter 242.

The fact of the matter is that the raw we used was censored, and we did not take the initiative to double check the original source at Qidian, or even double check with other raws which are also easily accessible on the internet.

After discovering this, we have updated Chapter 242, and made sure to replace all *** with their respective appropriate translations, which you can view from the link.

Once again, I would like to admit that this was definitely a failure of professionalism on my part due to negligence and sloppiness, and has very likely even done irrevocable harm to the author by being unable to fully express and properly share with everyone his awesome work. (The irony of discovering this the same day I read Ren’s reddit post does not escape me xS)

I would like to thank everyone who, especially the commentors who have led me to discover this mistake and I promise that it will never happen again in future.

It is said that for human beings, once broken, trust is the hardest thing to gain back, but I still hope that we will be able to continue and share better and better translations of this epic story to everyone.

Sincerely,
Yellowlaw~

  1. Thanks for the chapter!
Everyone makes mistakes and has some periods where laziness just wins over them :). Do no beat yourself over it. I do not know about others, but I’m more than happy with your current translations!

  2. I’m sorry if you find me offensive, but is this sarcasm? I didn’t expect some stars instead of a curseword would cause such an effect. ;s I honestly didn’t care in the slightest, hence me asking. I iz ze very confused.

  3. Our trust in you is not shaken by this slight mishap 🙂

It happens and you have even gone back to update the chapter; though I did have fun trying with treating the chapter like madlibs 🙂 came up with some phrases that made me laugh a bit at work.

Also Thank you for the chapter! 😀

  4. Thanks for all the translations. TBH if you randomly replaced words I prolly would never know the difference and I’m sure I represent 90% of the people here who aren’t super users and just want to read a bit. You’re putting in hard work and we appreciate it

  5. Lol don’t worry about the *** we aren’t that upset over it, sure we like seeing everything but if people are truly complaining enough to make it seem like you’re ruining the way the story is perceived is a unreasonable thing to say if they have context clues they should be able to pick up the general idea of what is being said.

  6. Chill, mate, you didn’t broke any trust for my part!
It’s just a matter of bad raw which led you to believe the censor was intentional by the author and you wanted to preserve in respect of the author.

Well, you learn to take a look at a second (and third) raw, so it was a lesson learned well IMO

  7. Lol. I honestly don’t care about a few mistakes like that. You are, very clearly, a phenomenal translator. I don’t think that a few mistranslated curse words would warrant a dip in trust in you.

And thanks for the chapter. 🙂

  8. I re-read the chapter, and honestly, I couldn’t see the reason why it has been censored in the first place. In my final opinion, China government have really weird sense of censorship, more so than United State’s. *Scratching my head*

      1. If China government censor the word ‘nefarious’ therefore China government is a nefarious government.

        ne·far·i·ous
        nəˈferēəs/
        adjective
(typically of an action or activity) wicked or criminal.
“the nefarious activities of the organized-crime syndicates”
synonyms: wicked, evil, sinful, iniquitous, egregious, heinous, atrocious, vile, foul, abominable, odious, depraved, monstrous, fiendish, diabolical, unspeakable, despicable; More

  9. Not really your fault law… You’ve been a straightforward person, and had not lied to us how could trust be ever broken? 🙂 And i don’t see anything wrong about it. As for that asterisk, well i’ll have my guess hehehe…

Thanks for your continued hardwork ^^

  10. I read the reddit post by Ren and I have to say, that this “asterisk incident” has very little to do with that.
It was simple censorship – and all readers KNEW that there was something censored. Nothing was left out, mistranslated or voluntarily changed (those are cases, where the reader usually has no idea that something is “amiss”).

So I would like to follow the commentors above and say: “Relax, you are doing a fine job!”

  11. I want to clarify that just because of RWX’s post doesn’t mean that we as fans are going to yell at you and complain. In fact, he told us to be nice to you guys. 😀 To be honest, you guys are trying your best. Also, like others have said, the guessing was fun. You don’t need to worry about us, we’ll do our best to be good fans, and we’ll always appreciate your high quality translations. 😀

  12. No problem, I can’t blame you for that kind of mistake. After all, you put a lot of efforts into translating this great novel. Really, you’re doing a great work.

  13. Don’t sweat it. We all can use our minds and fill in the ****. We know that the C**nese goverment (censor intended 🙂 ) and/or people who can’t handle vulgar language often censor these things. To be honest, I actually kind of find it amusing to see what they will censor next, its so random 🙂
