3h2b5 – Seeing What Shouldn’t Be Seen

Tang Wulin let out a breath of relief and relaxed his body once he exited Feng Wuyu’s workshop. He felt dread just thinking about what an unreasonable madman like Feng Wuyu might do when rejected. Fortunately, Feng Wuyu showed a modicum of rationality today and let him off the hook. Of course, Tang Wulin understood the importance of blacksmithing, but it was not his number one priority right now.

However, Tang Wulin was curious what sort of method Feng Wuyu had to boost his soul power without any side effects. To do so would likely require the consumption of heavenly spirit items. But even so, ten spirit refined products was too expensive for Tang Wulin.

He had no other choice but to be stingy. If he wanted to refine his blood essence, he had to shell out the money for the spirit items necessary to break his seals. This was impossible to accomplish unless he saved every penny! Once he turned sixteen, he would have to break one seal a year, and from the required items for the third seal, he could only begin to imagine what sort of outrageous spirit items would be required for the later ones. He couldn’t possibly have enough money now.

In the blanket of night, not a single peep could be heard in the working student dormitory.

Xie Xie opened his eyes and looked over at Tang Wulin in the bed next to his. Tang Wulin was currently cultivating, a thick aura of blood essence lingering around him. His body was bursting with vitality. Xie Xie always felt more motivated when he cultivated together with Tang Wulin. While his soul power rank may be higher than Tang Wulin’s, he had never felt superior.

He quietly climbed off his bed and crept over past Tang Wulin’s bed. Careful to not alarm the two girls on the other side of the curtain splitting their room in half, he snuck out the door.

Xie Xie basked in the refreshing night breeze.

He looked to the sky with twinkling eyes.

In the past few days, he had been continuously changing and growing. His understanding of himself deepened greatly after the competition for presidency.

After coming to Shrek Academy, he realized just how strong his peers were. He was one of the peak geniuses in Eastsea City. He had understood Tang Wulin was strong back then, but he had thought he could still compete with his speed. However, Tang Wulin’s improvement speed went beyond his imagination. He didn’t believe it at first. Tang Wulin just kept growing stronger step by step. The combination of his destructive golden dragon claw and Tang Sect secret arts placed him higher than Xie Xie now.

More importantly, however, was their difference in combat ability. Xie Xie had never been his match in this regard.

Elder Cai’s criticism had served as a wakeup call for him. Since then, he redoubled his efforts into truly mastering the mysterious Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track

Both his martial souls could produce clones, not to mention invisible clones from his Shadow Dragon Dagger. Heeding Elder Cai’s advice, he worked on polishing his advantages and minimizing his weaknesses.

He was lacking in control. He didn’t invest enough effort into improving it. So, he began practicing Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track with one clone and managed to achieve favorable results in the class competition. It was an amazing feat to win one-against-two here at Shrek Academy, not to mention the fact that his opponents were both control-types.

However, after the class competition ended, Shen Yi had asked him and Xu Xiaoyan if they truly wanted to throw their hats into the ring for the vice-president positions. Although he had given up, he wasn’t completely convinced.

But he understood why Shen Yi posed the question to him. He wasn’t strong enough! Not even he could deny this fact, and he lacked the confidence to become one of the vice-presidents.

As Xie Xie thought back to that scene, he couldn’t help but clench his fist. Aside from that, there was one other thing that left a deep impression on him: Wu Siduo’s self-soul fusion skill.

He had twin martial souls just like her, though they weren’t true twin martial souls since he had to get them both soul rings at the same time. However, there were benefits to this! Light Dragon Dagger and Shadow Dragon Dagger were two extremely similar martial souls, so perhaps he could pull off a self-soul fusion skill just like Wu Siduo. This idea had been gnawing at Xie Xie lately.

With his current cultivation and the characteristics of his twin martial souls, he was confident he could ascend to the Genius Youths Ranking if he had a self-soul fusion skill as well.

So, he had been pondering how to this question these past few days. Unfortunately, he found little success.

He had been unable to meditate peacefully tonight, so he chose to come out for some fresh air.

The cool night breeze cleared his mind of clutter. If I can’t do it by myself, then I’ll just have to ask Teacher Wu for help. Maybe he’ll have an idea to get me a self-soul fusion skill.

As he mulled things over, Xie Xie strolled around the dormitory. The walk helped ease his mind.

A few minutes later, he saw the lights on in one of the rooms.

Huh. Isn’t there supposed to be no one living there? Why’s the light on? Xie Xie’s gaze sharpened.

Gently pushing off the ground, he silently dashed over to the room’s window and peeked in.

Although the lights were on inside the room, the curtains were pulled close so he couldn’t see anything. However, he could faintly her the sound of running water.

He summoned his Shadow Dragon Dagger. In addition to making himself invisible, it could also hide his presence and silence his actions.

He quietly stabbed the dagger into the window sill, pried it open, and moved the curtain out the way.

Xie Xie’s eyes went wide and his jaw dropped. He was utterly stupefied.

Inside the room was a fair-skinned girl with long red hair draped over her back. She was completely naked, using a wet towel to wash herself.

Xie Xie could only see her profile from his position, but curves of her body were clear to see.

I-isn’t this her?

Although he could only see the side of her face, he instantly recognized her as the red-haired waitress they had run into their first day at Shrek Academy. This was the Fallen Angel girl who fought with Yue Zhengyu. Why is she here now? She said she was a working student, but she only appeared now?

As a thirteen-year-old, this was Xie Xie’s first exposure to the charms of the opposite sex. HIs face grew flush and he gulped.

“Who’s there!” After the shout, black fog erupted from the room.

Not good! Adrenaline rushed through Xie Xie’s veins as he shot backward, retreating into the shadows.

However, Xie Xie soon discovered himself in a pitch-black world. A wave of fury and madness attacked him.

The girl smashed apart the window and leaped out, chasing after him. In this world of darkness, Xie Xie felt as if he was moving through a quagmire and couldn’t display his full speed. He was practically a sitting duck.

Unable to escape, he could only turn around and ready his Light Dragon Dagger.

With a bang, Xie Xie was sent flying back.

The red-haired girl landed on the ground with her face flushed and her beautiful eyes blazing with fury. She was now clothed in the Shrek Academy uniform.

Her anger reached a crescendo when she saw that the peeper was Xie Xie. “You bastard!” Her second soul ring lit up and a violet-black sword appeared in front of her.

When she took the sword in her hand, her imposing aura seemed to rise by a level.Intense darkness seeped out of her, rushing toward Xie Xie.

Xie Xie was dumbstruck. Although she only had two soul rings, he could clearly sense that her cultivation base was far superior to his. Drowning in the muddy darkness, there was nothing he could do resist. Moreover, he was undoubtedly in the wrong for peeping on her. He couldn’t help but be at a loss.

The girl couldn’t read his mind, so she appeared before him in a flash and slashed down with her sword.

The sword sent out three meter-long blade lights accompanied by ghostly wails, as if they came from the netherworld. In the same instant the sword lights flew out, the muddy darkness around him seemed to thicken.

She’s trying to kill me! Xie Xie could feel her terrifying killing intent. Frightened, he summoned his Shadow Dragon Dagger as well and began spinning with his daggers extended. He used Twin Dragon Storm!

He spun like a top as his two daggers guzzled down his soul power. While he may not have true twin martial souls, having two martial souls still granted him an edge in the soul power department compared to normal soul masters.
