      1. I mean, currently for this week he’s basically at a rate of 1 chapter a day, which is really not a big workload. Obviously he has other things to do, but as someone who is Chinese and speaks Chinese, I really don’t believe translating is as strenuous or time consuming as most people believe it to be.

        1. 1 chapter a day is still heavenly compared to some other light novels on this site. I had to even drop one because the 1 chapter a week release rate was killing me.

  1. You forget that he also translates godsfall. In total that is 20 chapters a week or about 3 chapters a day. Of course this is besides his tasks like dealing with annoying Chinese publishers and getting more translators etc etc.
I am afraid that he might be overworking himself.

Don’t forget to take a rest Ren!

    1. All of it just seems so weird, saying too much work and stress from dealing with Qidian, so he reverses his Patreon goals for DE, lowering it to 10 chapters a week. Then, a month later, decides to take up a whole new project in translating Godsfall Chronicles? You would think he could at least make sure his DE release is consistent and on time before tackling on even more work. Not to diminish his hard work, but you miscounted, its 15 chapters total a week, 10 from DE and 5 from GodsFall. Not assuming anything about the fanbase of GodsFall either, but I’m sure there’s far more demand for Desolate Era than for GodsFall. People tend not to comment about these things, but consistency beats rapid release (Marathon runners > sprinters). It’s one thing to be disappointed by the number of chapters being released per week, which I would like to make it clear I am not, not even one bit. It’s another thing to have seemingly random chapter delays every week with no consistent releases. At this point the only thing consistent about RWX is the lack of accurate communication.

      1. For example, I read manga a fair bit. When Scanlation groups pick up a manga that’s already completed but not translated to English yet, they may release 1-2 chapters a week. And I have NO ISSUE with slow translations or less content to consume, because I can count on them to release, consistently, at exactly Wednesday night, the following chapter, without fail. So for anyone thinking I just want 14 chapters a week again, I have no problem with the 10. No problem with even 8 or 7. Heck I still read Tales of Demons and Gods and that releases once a month.

        1. This a point I’ve meaning to bring up for the past couple weeks. Consistency is more important than the number of releases. I’d like to know when the next chapters are, not wait for them to randomly pop up.

          1. If I have to choose translation speed vs release time consistency, I’m going to choose speed every time.

’10 chapters per week’ gives Ren the type of flexibility to get the work done around his other responsibilities in a way that ‘2 chapters per weekday’ does not.

      2. If i remember correctly, when they announced the deal with the new publishers it sounded like a few books were being forced on wuxiaworld in order for them to get the rights for the books they wanted to start translating. Godsfall Chronicles is probably one of those titles.

          1. My mistake, then. Must have glossed over that announcement. Regardless, the rest of my points still stand, with today/tonight being the the classic example.

  2. AngrySkyDuoluo, you’re missing the point. Also, your example has nothing to do with your first point. 10 chapters per week or 2 chapters per weekday has nothing to do with translation speed vs release time consistency. We don’t care about translation speed, if Ren was the Flash and could release 30 chapters a week, great! If he was a snail and could release 5 chapters a week, still great! Regardless of how many chapters he puts out in a week, I would always choose the option of having a preset schedule for release. And as much as I love Chinese novels, the only reason this is even an issue within the community is because at the moment the translation scene for Chinese novels is minuscule compared to Japanese manga. This type of issue that we’re bringing up NEVER happens in manga because there are so many competing scanlation groups fighting for people’s viewership. Can you imagine if Mangastream started being inconsistent in releases? No one would visit their site, and everyone would go to their main competitor, Jamini’s Box scans. We’re not trying to destroy WuxiaWorld, we want it to be better for the future, because inevitably as the Chinese novel scene grows, competitors will rise, and if someone else begins a translation of DE but keeps to a schedule and is consistent, they will garner more views and traction. Some people might read our comments and take it as just whining and complaining, but those who can put their own ego and pride aside will read it as constructive criticism.

    1. I’m sure the releases on WW could be perfectly consistent (the chapters are already on patrion) but I think Ren will feel guilty for neglecting his patrion people by giving a preferential treatment to the non-patrion people (this is also a bit annoying because Ren doesn’t accept donations, only patrion).
I remember when Ren took over the translation of DE from someone else (I am very sorry but I can’t remember the name….it has been too long ) and at that time I could count on a release every evening (in my time zone) between 9 and 10. I really liked that. You could see that Ren had a store of translated chapters ready so that he could be consistent. In my opinion that consistency was sacrificed when he promised his patrions access to that buffer and promised to keep the buffer at a minimum of 15 chapters.
I don’t mind if the buffer goes down. I prefer to read the chapters on WW and I think that the old consistency is more important.

      1. I would like to stress that I have nothing against using patrion but it shouldn’t be a negative influence.
And again: Ren please don’t take more than you can handle. I have seen several people crack under prolonged stress.

  3. Ren sure has a different mindset regarding the “time”… Few hours=30+hours, 1 day=around 3 days…
I am just as frustrated as some of you are, need to express something to vent this feeling. Lately Ren reminds me of Thyaeria’s lack of consistency and teenager like excuses when TDG had active releases
