Chapter 1455: The Ninth Paragon Arrives!

The Dao Sovereign frowned, looking over at the bruises on the young man’s neck, which were clearly caused by the anxious way he had ripped the jade pendant off his neck.

He was the son of Patriarch Chi Feng, and had a cultivation base at the 6-Essences Dao Sovereign level. In the Vast Expanse School, he was at the peak of power when it came to people under the Paragon level. Normally speaking, he was the kind of person who would kill with decisiveness. Couple that with the fact that his father was likely to become the next Eighth Paragon, and it ensured that his status was constantly on the rise, and his cultivation experienced constant progress.

People in the Eighth Sect had even begun to refer to the father and son team as collective Paragon. Although the young grandson had never earned much respect, he was of the same bloodline. Therefore, if his Dao Sovereign father wished to punish him, or even kill him, no one would say anything. However, if someone struck his son with a blow, it was the same thing as striking him, or even Patriarch Chi Feng.

That was especially the case considering that Patriarch Chi Feng had reached a critical juncture in his cultivation. To the Dao Sovereign, the fact that someone had done something like this to his son was a likely indication that a competing force was trying to make a move, although with what goal, he wasn’t sure.

However, he didn’t need to be sure.

“It doesn’t matter who did this, whoever dared to provoke my bloodline will be exterminated!” The Dao Sovereign snorted coldly and waved his sleeve. His murderous aura surged, rippling out into the area, causing the hearts of the nearby cultivators of the Eighth Sect to grow cold with fear. They were all well-aware that the bloodline of Patriarch Chi Feng were now preparing to go on a killing spree.

“What a pity. A Dao Realm beast, huh…? This girl must have some connections in her sect. But unfortunately for her, in the Vast Expanse School, power and influence are what really matter.

“It would be easier to find a phoenix feather or a qilin horn than to find someone on Planet Vast Expanse who could compare to Patriarch Chi Feng….” Those were the thoughts running through the heads of most of the people present, and there were some who even began to radiate their own killing intent, indicating that they wished to join the Dao Sovereign in whatever action he was about to take.

The Dao Sovereign seemed pleased with this. Glaring over at the young man, he said, “What are you standing around for? Take me to see whoever it was that had the gall to send a beast like that to harm a disciple of my Vast Expanse School!”

As for Yan’er, he didn’t even bother to look at her. He was aware of his son’s vices, and although they caused him a bit of a headache sometimes, he had the same attitude as Patriarch Chi Feng. In his view, the young man was always careful, and to cultivators, being careful was the same as being dependable.

Considering the girl had a Dao Realm beast protecting her, she clearly had some connections in the sect. But to Chi Feng, such connections weren’t even worth paying attention to.

All the other cultivators in the crowd felt the same as the Dao Sovereign, that it really would be easier to find a phoenix feather or a qilin horn than to find someone who could strike fear into the hearts of the members of this bloodline.

The Dao Sovereign simply couldn’t believe that in his son’s journey outside of the sect, he could possibly have provoked one of those existences that they did not dare to provoke.

Even as he spoke, the Dao Sovereign’s energy rose up, causing everything else in the area to shake.

The young man’s eyes went wide with delight. In his entire life, he had never been more scared than he had been earlier that day. He had been so close to dying that he had almost collapsed mentally.

Laughing heartily, he looked over at the terrified Yan’er, eyes flickering with a depraved gleam.

“Hey gorgeous, you know that dog of yours? I’m going to boil him right in front of you and then eat him. Don’t worry, I’ll give you a few bites to try.”

Shaking, Yan’er bit her lip. By this point, her heart was completely overwhelmed with terror and fear. She felt alone, helpless and hopeless, and she suddenly missed her Master more than ever.

“Master…” she whimpered, shivering. “Master…”

“Did you just say something about your Master? Hahaha! I don’t care what your Master has to do with your pet. He dared to provoke me, he WILL die. And before he dies, I’ll make him act like a dog!” Viciousness gleamed in the young man’s eyes as his laughter rang out into the air. He was just about to lead the group off when suddenly a cold snort ripped through the killing intent of the surrounding group of cultivators. It was like a clap of thunder that caused everything to tremble on the verge of exploding.

Lands quaked, and floor tiles were transformed into ash. A tempest sprang up that instantly spread out to cover the entire Eighth Sect.

The Eighth Sect was huge, but even if it were larger than it was, the tempest would still fill it. At the same time, it was as if an enormous, invisible foot had stamped down onto the ground. A huge shockwave spread out, filling the Eighth Sect, causing all mountains, buildings, and lands to shake violently.

In addition to the physical effects on the surroundings, all cultivators in the Eighth Sect, regardless of the level of their cultivation base or what they were doing at the moment… began to tremble. It was as if mountains were crushing down onto them, causing blood to spray out of their mouths. To their astonishment, they suddenly realized that… they couldn’t move a muscle.

A roar of rage filled the world with indescribable pressure, crushing down onto the entire Eighth Sect!

All cultivators were completely and utterly shocked. Their hearts filled with terror, and their minds spun. Then, off in the distance, a person approached… it was a young man in a black robe, with violet hair, who seemed to carry with him all the darkness and coldness in the world.

Behind him, the Heavens trembled as if they were about to shatter. His gaze caused the air to distort, as if it were making a path for him, and beneath him, the lands shook as if they were kowtowing in worship!

One person suppressed Heaven and shook the Earth. Everything twisted and distorted. This young man became the center of all attention… a figure who would stand for all eternity!

Even as he appeared, a cold voice echoed out that seemed to carry infinite rage and killing intent. It echoed like a thousand thunders, shaking everything. “Who dared to harm one of the disciples of my Ninth Sect?”

His voice caused countless mountains to crumble, and numerous buildings to fall. The cultivators of the Eighth Sect once again coughed up mouthfuls of blood.

When an ordinary man is enraged, blood can be spattered everywhere. When a Paragon is enraged, Heaven and Earth weep!

These people from the Eighth Sect had poked Meng Hao in his sensitive weak spot, enraging him. And when Meng Hao was enraged, instead of saying that Heaven and Earth were weeping, it would be better to say that the Vast Expanse was being buried!

As soon as the voice rang out, colors flashed and the wind screamed. Mountains collapsed and buildings toppled. The cultivation bases of all cultivators in the Eighth Sect became unstable, and blood oozed out of their eyes, ears, noses, and mouths.

“Ninth…. Ninth P-P… Ninth Paragon!!” The young man’s father, the Dao Sovereign, couldn’t stop his eyes from bulging in disbelief. Blood sprayed out of his mouth, and although he couldn’t actually move, he was trembling, all the way down to his very soul.

All of that was because of… a single sentence!

It was as if Meng Hao represented the might of Heaven, and his word was Heavenly Dao and magical law alike!

The sky above the eighth continent went dark, and the cultivators of the Eighth Sect, including their Paragons, were all trembling. Patriarch Chi Feng was also shaking, and when he looked out from his secluded meditation chamber, an expression of disbelief washed over his face as he realized he was looking at that most terrifying of figures, the person who struck fear into his heart more than anything after the trip to the necropolis.

“The Ninth Paragon…. What… what is he doing here? Dammit, who provoked a terrifying jinx like that!?!?!?” Patriarch Chi Feng’s eyes were already bloodshot.

Everyone was trembling, except for Yan’er. She looked up, and through the tears streaming down her face, she could see someone approaching. Although she couldn’t make out his features clearly, he seemed familiar, and she couldn’t hold back from saying, “Master….”

As soon as the words left her mouth, all the cultivators in the area, including the young man and the Dao Sovereign, gasped as if they had been struck by lightning.

That was especially true of the young man. He sagged in place as though his bones had turned to mush. His mind reeled as the word she had just uttered echoed out.

“The vessel I took a liking to is… the apprentice of the Ninth Paragon?” The young man suddenly wanted to laugh. It was almost like he was hearing the funniest joke he had ever heard in his entire life. And yet, at the bottom of his heart, he was trembling with insanity.

As his mind reeled, his entire world was destroyed; the light left it, leaving nothing but darkness.

He wasn’t the only one to have such a reaction. His father, the Dao Sovereign, was normally a high and mighty figure. Within the Eighth Sect, innumerable people treated him with fear and dignity. But now, in front of Meng Hao, he was trembling like a stray dog. He was gasping for breath, staring in shock, his eyes bloodshot as he turned to look at his son. If he could kill anyone at this moment, he would most definitely… tear this unfilial son to shreds!

“You damned son of a bitch!” he bellowed. “Y-y-you… you screwed us all over!!”

Everyone in the crowd was shaking, especially the ones who had expressed their desire to join Chi Feng’s bloodline in wiping out the enemy. Looks of shock and disbelief appeared on their faces, and suddenly they felt a bit bad for Chi Feng’s bloodline.

Apparently… they had the audacious gall and courage to dare to provoke one of the nine great Paragons of the Vast Expanse School.

Everything was deathly silent, as people stood there in fear.

Meng Hao’s true self walked into the Eighth Sect, past the crowds of people, until he was standing in front of Yan’er. As soon as his gaze came to rest on her, his eyes turned soft and warm.

“I’m not your Master,” he said slowly. “But… any cultivator in the Ninth Sect could be considered my apprentice.”

Everyone present breathed a sigh of relief, especially the Dao Sovereign. As long as they weren’t really Master and apprentice, then everything should be fine….

Yan’er looked at Meng Hao, and although he didn’t look exactly like her Master, for some reason he seemed very familiar. The warmth in his words, and everything else, filled her with the intense sensation that she really was standing in front of her Master.

That feeling of familiarity caused tears to stream down her cheeks. She rushed forward and wrapped her arms around his chest, wailing. It was as if her tears could release all of the humiliation, fear, and terror that she had just experienced.

The Eighth Sect was completely silent. Everyone stood there trembling, looking at that most powerful of entities gently holding a young girl in his arms. When Meng Hao looked up again, his eyes were so ice cold that they seemed capable of extinguishing the light of the sun and moon.

As Yan’er wept in his arms, everyone looked on, shaking. Then, within the silence that filled the Eighth Sect, Meng Hao looked down at Yan’er’s cheek.

There… was a distinct hand print!

101 thoughts on “ISSTH – Book 9 – Chapter 1455” - NO SPOILERS and NO CURSING

    1. Beating Eldoss in Commenting first is an Honorable thing in Wuxia, I am pleased to express my utmost respect to you my fellow daoist.

      RI(RENEGADE IMMORTAL) = GOD
      BTD(BESEECH THE DEVIL) = DEVIL
ISSTH(I SHALL SEAL THE HEAVENS) = DEMON
      AWE(A WILL ETERNAL) = GHOST
      AH(AGAINST HEAVEN) = IMMORTAL

Wang Lin is an IMMORTAL GOD
Su Ming is an IMMORTAL DEVIL
Meng Hao is an IMMORTAL DEMON
Bai Xiaochun is an IMMORTAL GHOST
Not yet Sure is an IMMORTAL

          1. pity about BESEECH THE DEVIL novel as no one is picking it up it is a GEM ლ(ಠ_ಠლ)
Renegade immortal and a will eternal are being translated and not a lot of chapters out on either of them so not a lot of reading maybe a day or two of binge reading.

      1. not likely about immortal and ghost, as Against Heaven was dropped by er gen plus no mention of such thing in it and a will eternal is still in progress so unless i missed a reference to it then that can’t be it either. oh and another point being meng hao still has a way to become an immortal >.<

      2. Considering “Against Heaven” was started concurrently with RI and then dropped after a few hundred chapters, it really should not be included in any list of Er Gen novels.

      3. Why tell us about how patriarch vast expanses immortal transcendence got interfered with and as such became an Immortal ghost in ISSTH and then write AWE just to tell us how he got to the point of Immortal transcendence and failed. …… I mean if it was written before ISSTH it would be fine

      4. NOOOOOOOOOO
Tian Ni (Against Heaven) was the earlier version of Xian Ni (er gen wrote that first but then stopped bc he had a better plot in mind i.e Xian Ni (Renegade Immortal))
also, at this point, it seems like Meng Hao wants to have Fang Mu become the Immortal (or maybe he doesn’t “want” but he will or so i hope)

      5. I’m pretty sure that Patriarch Vast Expanse is the Ghost. This is because he said to Meng Hao “I was the first and you are the last”, and the Ghost was the first of the four fingers, while the Demon was the last, in the vision Meng Hao had in the stone chambers. Also, he is the emperor of the ghost city.

As others have said, AH was dropped so nope, not the immortal.

Meng Hao could be both the Demon and the Immortal at the same time if his fusion with his clone allows it.

Otherwise, Bai Xiaochun should be the Immortal, I mean his one and only goal is immortality, so…

But it’s also possible that Bai Xiaochun is not part of the 4 and completely unrelated to this whole storyline.

Allheaven might be the author himself, or just a very powerful cultivator who created the Vast Expanse as part of a plan.

  1. I’m the only who was a bit disappointed..?
I actually wanted his clone to act. I wanted him to do something like fight the dao sovereign to a standstill or something.. (Because apparently his clone has exceeded his true body’s limits, I thought it may be already capable of fighting dao sovereigns)

Maybe Meng Hao would’ve had to appear anyway but I thought it would be a nice opportunity to promote his clone and show Yan’er that her master is awesome.

    1. why would he want to do that? the whole point of that clone was for it to be a secret and for it to work it’s way to ninth essence not showing off….. he showed off enough when he was younger pretty sure he doesn’t care much about that anymore and if it is about popularity he can just promote his clone to a chosen with some line like “he shows great promise” not like anyone can argue against it with him owning the whole sect and all xD

      1. Probably test current strength to advance or shut up other’s mouths of how great “talent” he used to be and not to bully Yan er cause he is deemed weak

    2. Fang Mu is still an immortal cultivator. Doesn’t matter how powerful he is: there’s only so little he can do. Dao realm cultivators are out of his league at the moment

      1. Ask Meng Hao how to kill Dao Realm Cultivators while in the Immortal Realm. Oh wait, Fang Mu is Meng Hao, and he even has more immortal meridians than Meng Hao had. How could Fang Mu not able to kill that Dao Realm cultivator? Has irony caught up to this novel now?

          1. Wow, is that really how low your intelligence is? Never seen a person as moronic as you in my entire life.

          2. For argument sake, after reading this novel, when has the word logic ever applicable to meng hao’s fighting capabilities? Never, he always have OP fighting prowess which are unexplainable so don’t try to use logic to ever explain MH fighting prowess.

          3. LOL. You really are the ad hominem master. There are plenty of ISSTH fanboys who can explain the book to you. Your lack of understanding isn’t evidence of a lack of logic. Please provide something “unexplainable” and then see how it can be explained.

          4. Dude if you have The current Fang Mu vs the Meng Hao who was as the SAME CULTIVATION lvl Fang Mu probably wins(started with the best body someone can have based on Meng Hao’s CURRENT body, and has more immortal meridians) …..do you skip the chapters?

And please STOP offending everyone in comments, instead of saying that he’s stupid or makes sarcastic comments, can’t you try asking him WHY HE THOUGHT SO????????
            …Hoping your understanding.

          5. I think Fang Mu is a pure Allheaven Immortal. If MH could fight Dao level opponents while undergoing his Ancient Realm tribulation I think Fang Mu could also. When I read those chapters I imagined Fang Mu as MH if he was a chosen in a sect and was given unlimited resources instead of having to fight for everything he got.

        1. Meng Hao managed to kill dao realm cultivators thanks to the four nirvana fruits, which Fang Mu doesn’t have. Plus, even he had to enter the ancient realm before being able to tangle with dao sovereigns

      2. Let’s not forget that when Meng Hao leapfrogged realms to fight somebody stronger than him he usually paid a bitter price and won by being extremely vicious to himself. So even if he can beat the prince (that most likely has better cultivation techniques and treasures than the vast majority of people in his realm) and then having to back down when help inevitably came, why wouldn’t he just come with his true self that can easily beat down on anyone AND be strong enough to guarantee that nothing would threaten Yan’er (which is what already happened when the mastiff tried to protect her btw).

      3. As I’ve already said, Meng Hao with only his immortal meridians could only fight against immortal cultivators. He menaged to skip classes thanks to the absorption of the nirvana fruits, but the clone doesn’t have those. He is still at the same level Meng Hao was at just after his ascension (a bit stronger, but not that much)
His body has been modeled by the bronze lamp, true, but we have no idea how strong has that made him. We only know it helped him raise his strenght quickly. Anything more than this is just speculation.

        1. Wasn’t there a part of the story whereby they said that Meng hao used nirvana fruit to create the clone although they didn’t state the exact number

        2. The nirvana fruits turned him into an allheaven dao immortal, it awakened his bloodline to its fullest. Since he made his clone its safe to assume that his clone also has a fully awakened bloodline and he is an allheaven dao immortal as well (or do you think it makes sense for his clone to have a different bloodline??) He should be more powerful than his true body was at that stage. If not the clone it self would be way too lame, and Er Gen doesn’t do lame stuff. You can just think about it like his clan members didn’t need the nirvana fruits to become allheaven immortals while meng hao needed 2 to become allheaven immortal and 3 to become an allheaven dao immortal, essentially the fruits carved out the power of his own bloodline.

Conclusion: Fang mu doesn’t need the fruits.

      4. Dude, what the hell are you talking about?? he could fight dao sovereign while being an immortal with his true body! His clone is surpassing what he thought was the upmost perfection, his bloodline has already been awakened to its fullest so it’s nonsense to think he needs the fruits again. What the fruits did was awaken his bloodline, thats it! Even if he fought against an imperial lord he should win, he has all the divine abilities and higher comprehension of his hexes than before. Even Dao sovereigns would be crushed by Fang Mu, the reason he used his true body was to save Chu Yuyan as fast as he could.

    3. His clone was at a critical juncture, at the verge of a breakthrough, so he couldn’t really be interrupted. Also take into consideration seniority, while Meng Hao back in his days at the Mountain and Sea realm didn’t always care much for it. Stepping in with his clone would potentially create a big mess and draw unwanted attention to his clone.

Since this prince is related to a paragon, it wouldn’t be hard to conceive said paragon getting involved when needed. While battling dao realm cultivator might be possible for his clone, a paragon would be pushing it, also in terms of seniority in the Vast Expanse clan.

Stepping in as the 9th paragon on the other hand would be excellent to set an example. At least it should stop random flunkies from suicidal actions. His clone couldn’t achieve this, unless he reveals his true identity, which probably isn’t desirable.

Bonus: his actions will lead to the 9th sect will worshiping the 9th paragon even more, ensuring greater loyalty should he decide to declare war. This might also stop other similar cases, resulting in less loss of 9th sect’s cultivators, because of the other sects.

  2. The phrase its rarer to find phoenix feather and qilin horns for me is not applicable to ISSTH. I know it means rare, but if you decide to use that metaphor then at least make it truthful somehow. For all the chapters of ISSTH, never has there been a sighting of a phoenix feather or a qilin horn, so this statement in the context of ISSTH would not mean rare, it would mean nothing at all.

    1. So according to you, any English novel that uses the phrase “needle in a haystack,” must actually have a scene where there is a needle inside of a haystack, otherwise the meaning of the idiom changes? LOL. LOLLLLL. Sorry but seriously, I can’t stop laughing at this comment. LMAO

        1. Please cite the fantasy novel that has a scene with an actual needle and a haystack. If you can, then list the number of novels that use the phrase “needle in a haystack” but don’t actually have a needle and a haystack.

          1. Sigh, the point and you can’t seem to meet. Needle in a haystack was an idiom from a real situation, so there is no point trying to prove that one. But phoenix, qilins? Never have they been existences from reality yet an idiom was created based from them. And yet in a fantasy novel, a chinese at that, can’t even give truth to this idiom? How ironic is that? If you still can’t seem to get my point then I can only pray for your small mind.

          2. “From a real situation.” Really? What is that real situation? Please enlighten me about how, etymologically, the term “needle in a haystack” comes from a “real situation.” Was there a farmer in ancient times who lost a needle inside of a haystack, and then went searching for it, and that’s how they came up with the expression? Or is it more likely that the point of the expression was to describe an impossible situation?

Likewise, the point of the Chinese phrase is that phoenix feathers and qilin horns are impossible to find, just like it’s impossible to find a needle in a haystack. Wait, don’t tell me that your comeback will involve a reference to a metal detector.

They are both idioms based on culture. To suggest that authors should add legitimacy to the idioms by portraying the idioms literally is pretty stupid.

Kill two birds with one stone

            Beat around the bush

            Cry over spilt milk

            Once in a blue moon

            Steal someone’s thunder

At the drop of a hat

Let the cat out of the bag

Should authors also literally portray all of the above?

Also, you yet again default to ad hominem as your argument. Nice.

      1. Fang_hao, I adore how you relish the act of completely annihilating poorly planned arguments. Someday, I hope to have the wit and knowledge necessary to achieve similar feats myself. If I could like your comments, you’d have an armada of +1’s at your disposal (for cultivation purposes). 😀

    2. Don’t worry, once Lord Fifth returns (hopefully) ask him. He must have hoarded all the phoenix feathers… Not sure about qilin horns though.

About the creatures themselves, they are usually of the same rarity as xuanwu turtles and dragons and we’ve seen those already. So qilins must be shy, same for phoenixes, especially with Lord Fifth around…

    3. I agree that its annoying. THERE HAVe been so many things that are as rare as phoenix feathers and quilen horns that have popped up, im expecting to walk out of my house and find several of each in my yard.

    4. First: You got the phrase wrong, it goes “It would be easier to find a phoenix feather or a qilin horn than to find…”

Second: Do you truly believe that this phrase is restricted to novels??? Wrong! According to Chinese legends, phoenix’s feathers and Qilin’s horns are the rarest things one can find in the world.

Third: So what if Qilins haven’t appeared?? Does that mean they do not exist in the novel?? They are freaking rare after all!!! If they were easy to find then the phrase would loose meaning!

Fourth: Do you think that if something isn’t mentioned it doesn’t exist? When you are reading a fantasy novel you make educated assumptions about many things, the author doesn’t mention a lot of things because he expects you to make assumptions! he expects his readers to not be so stupid as to not understand this concept. If the word “gravity” wasn’t mentioned in a novel, would you instantly assume it doesn’t exist as well??

  3. Thank you for the chapter!

tho nothing changes i still want xu qing x meng hao x chu yuyan. they’re both ideal waifus. i mean come on why not chu yuyaaan ugh meng hao you damn virgin !!!

        1. Well, before he was a crow, and while i respect everyone fetish, i don’t think his old body would have been convenient for this kind of activity. ^^

          1. Meng Hao and Xu Qing lived as a couple for a time, we don’t know if he is a virgin.

        2. Im pretty sure he is not a virgin… He probably has done it so many times that he lost interest or something. He could take human form when he was the crow after all, how could he be a virgin??

  4. Something really pleasing about reading how the terminally stupid offend MH and suffer his wrath. They should be thankful that being a demon makes him not become bashful anymore….

    1. Chu yuyan ;). Han Bei apparently managed to snatch the majority of her soul and planning to use it as insurance against Meng Hao. I’m not sure what Han Bei anticipated or where she got insider info from to have managed such a scheme way in advance.

In case you missed it, Han Bei’s and Chu Yuyan’ souls are somewhat linked to each other, as a result if one dies so does the other. Well at least if Han Bei dies, Chu Yuyan dies, hence Meng Hao not undertaking any action, not sure if it works in reverse as well, wasn’t mentioned specifically.

After delivering this memo to Meng Hao, she released Chu Yuyan’ soul, which reincarnated as Yan’er. Most likely her memories of her former life are locked away and will eventually resurface. I doubt the memories are lost, considering her coincidental talent for alchemy…

      1. I thought it might be Chu Yuyan but like i read that her soul was linked to Han Bei and didn’t understand that she realeased the soul I was confused, thanks. ^^

        1. Han Bei released the soul and it joined the reincarnation cycle. After more than a decade Meng Hao went to pick her up. However little bitch Han Bei feed some of her life soul to Chu Yuyans soul which caused its existence to depend on Han Bei’s life.

  5. Poor Patriarch Chi. The Young Prince is just a spoiled brat. Knows nothing but satisfying one’s self pleasure at the wrong place with the wrong people.

  6. Thanks for the chapter Deathblade, anonpuffs, Madam Deathblade, GNE, CC, Tsukihime, Logan, JerryDaBaws, and Baby Deathblade! Even if Meng Hao decides to take a step back to give the Sect Leader face I think everyone present will be losing an arm at least.
