Chapter 758 1

The eyes of Meng Hao’s second true self gleamed with killing intent. Although the soul of the second true self was not Meng Hao’s, thanks to the hidden power within the fleshly body, as well as Meng Hao’s divine will, he could control him as if it were his own body.

“Screw off!” said the second true self, his voice cold.

The words did not come with a thunderous roar, nor were there any boundless ripples. There was only monstrous coldness that spread out in all directions, causing everything for hundreds of kilometers to freeze over.

Within the flaming painting, the woman’s eyes widened.

“You really don’t know what’s good for you!” she exclaimed through gritted teeth. She lifted her right hand, causing a tempest of flame to appear, which immediately shot out in all directions to attempt to fight against the region set up by the second true self.

The second true self snorted and then closed his eyes, completely ignoring the rumbling that filled the air. He had completely sealed down everything, making it impossible for the Li Clan to flee.

Time passed, and the Li Clan only continued to grow more panicked. No matter what techniques they attempted to use, they were incapable of teleporting away, nor could they break through the seal created by the second true self. Even the face of the woman on the screen was beginning to look unsightly. After all… she was only a strand of divine will, and even if she were stronger than she was now, she was still nothing more than a scroll painting, with a cultivation base at the mid Dao Seeking level, falling short of the peak.

After all, the Li Clan of South Heaven was merely one of many offshoot branches of the main Li Clan on Planet North Reed. If it weren’t for the fact that they had some unique ties to the main clan, they would already have died out. As for their previous heights of glory and their present state of decline, in terms of the complex inner workings of the Li Clan as a whole, it actually didn’t amount to much.

Three days later, rumbling continued to fill the air just as it had the entire time. The woman in the scroll painting was more than half burned away, having gone all out with the power available to her as a divine will clone to bolster the Li Clan’s frantic efforts to break through the seal. As a result, cracks were finally becoming visible in it.

It was at this point that suddenly, tens of thousands of beams of light appeared off in the distance. They shot through the air like a red cloud, radiating killing intent.

It was the Blood Demon Sect’s tens of thousand of disciples who had all been holding themselves back for so long. In the lead was Meng Hao, flanked on the left and right by his Dharma Protectors.

As he neared, the eyes of the woman in the scroll painting glittered; she could tell at a mere glance that this was the true self of the clone.

Her eyes flickered with killing intent, and she was just about to say something, when coldness burst out of Meng Hao’s eyes. Without so much as a word, he waved the index finger of his right hand, and the Golden Frost Sect Patriarch and the 3rd Li Clan Patriarch shot toward the Li Clan, eyes shining with a glow like blood.

At the same time, the tens of thousands of Blood Demon Sect disciples exploded with a blood-colored glow as they finally unleashed the rage that had been pent up this entire time.

“Kill them!!”

“Spare no one! Kill them all!”

The tens of thousands of Blood Demon Sect Disciples recalled the bitter images from the battle outside their own sect, and their eyes turned red. Bloodthirsty and mad with rage, they charged the Li Clan. In response, the tens of thousands of Li Clan members began to fight back in desperation, looks of hopelessness on their faces.

This was a battle where no quarter would be given; its sole objective was to wipe out an entire clan.

Off in the distance, the hundreds of thousands of rogue cultivators were shaken by what they saw.

“The killing has started….”

“The Blood Demon Sect’s revenge is now truly being carried out!”

“The Li Clan… will be no more in the Southern Domain.”

“The Li Clan is going to be wiped out, and the Wang Clan was mysteriously destroyed in a single night. The only clan left in the Southern Domain will be the Song Clan!”

“Of the five great sects, the Black Sieve Sect was eradicated and the Solitary Sword Sect surrendered and lost their core Daoist teachings and doctrines. It was only because of Li Fugui that the Golden Frost Sect maintained theirs, but they will not be able to return to their former glory for many years. That just leaves the Violet Fate Sect….”

The slaughter intensified as the shocked rogue cultivators looked on. The left and right Dharma Protectors had lost their conscious wills, and attacked with shocking power. The woman in the scroll painting was defeated in exchange after exchange, and the 9th Li Clan Patriarch’s face was ashen. Blood sprayed from his mouth as his fleshly body was destroyed by the 3rd Li Clan Patriarch. His Nascent Divinity flew out at top speed.

“3rd Patriarch!!” he shrieked miserably.

Unfortunately for him, the 3rd Li Clan Patriarch was not aware of what was happening, and his only reaction was to attack again.

The Li Clan members fought back miserably, but were incapable of standing up to the elite cultivators of the Blood Demon Sect.

Thousands were killed just in the initial salvo.

The battlefield was soon soaked with blood, with slaughter being carried about constantly. Meng Hao didn’t attack, nor did his second true self. They merely observed the battle.

By now, Meng Hao was starting to grow weary of the bloodshed. In all the years since he had begun to practice cultivation, he had never killed so many people…. Even during the migration in the Western Desert, he had not seen such endless slaughter.

He felt a great weariness in his heart, and his expression was somewhat blank.

His ears were filled with the din of slaughter, bloodcurdling screaming, curses uttered moments before death, and battle cries. Despite the sheer volume of these sounds, all of it seemed to transform into a drone that came from very, very far away.

He suddenly realized that he reeked of blood. He could even sense that his heart was changing color… and was almost black.

It was the result of the accumulation of murderous desires and too much killing. When his heart became completely black, Meng Hao knew that would probably mean… that he had reached the point where the excessive killing didn’t bother him any more.

But was all of this what he really wanted?

He suddenly missed his days back in the Demon Immortal Sect, back during the Western Desert migration, back in the Southern Domain as an alchemist, and even his naive life in the Reliance Sect.

But now, he was surrounded by killing, and he was exhausted because of it. When he closed his eyes, he could sense the countless vengeful spirits of the people he had killed, swirling around inside of him. They engulfed him, transforming into an intense, resentful miasma that was like a curse. A never ending curse.

Meng Hao stood there, taciturn and silent.

He really was… very tired.

“Perhaps this is why I have been unable to push the Blood Demon Grand Magic past the fourth level,” he thought with a sigh.

“After all, I am still not the Devil that Patriarch Blood Demon wishes me to be…. I simply can’t be that cruel and merciless. I just can’t kill and kill without being shaken inwardly.”

After reaching the fourth level of the Blood Demon Grand Magic, he had tried on multiple occasions to achieve enlightenment regarding the fifth level, but all to no avail. It was as if he had reached the end the road.

He looked out at the bloody carnage and the twisted expressions of those that were caught up in the slaughter, and the weariness and exhaustion within him surged even higher. Finally he had his answer.

“Perhaps, deep in my heart, I’m simply not truly willing to allow myself to become completely blackhearted. I don’t want my happiness to come from the ghosts of those who I have killed. I don’t want my path to be filled with slaughter. In that case… I guess I’ll never reach the fifth level of the Blood Demon Grand Magic in this lifetime.

“The fifth level requires even more killing. It requires innumerable souls…. It requires more and more vengeful spirits to gather around me to successfully cultivate the magic.

“Only if I concede and become a Devil can I fully embrace the Blood Demon Grand Magic. At all times, regardless of the circumstances, I must embrace the colors of red and black.

“That is the only way. And it is a way… that I cannot accept.” He stood outside the Li Clan looking at rivers of blood, mountains of corpses, and ruins. Booms filled the air as cultivators from both sides fought back and forth ferociously, almost as if they had lost any semblance of reason.

It was at this point that Meng Hao suddenly came to a realization….

The battle didn’t last very long. With the left and right Dharma Protectors in action, it barely took two hours before the Li Clan’s fate was sealed.

The woman in the scroll painting could not be killed. She was a strand of divine sense that would return to her true self on Planet North Reed upon the painting’s vanishment. As she began to fade away, her cold voice echoed out.

“You chose the path of extermination! From now on, if you step foot outside of Planet South Heaven, the Li Clan will hunt you down wherever you go in the Ninth Mountain, for as long as it takes!”

Meng Hao’s eyes flickered with coldness. His second true self waved its right hand toward the woman in the scroll painting and the fading of her figure was suddenly arrested, and the flames which burned around her died down a bit.

The woman gaped in shock, during which time Meng Hao pointed out his right index finger.

Demon Sealing, Eighth Hex!

Demon Sealing, Seventh Hex!

The combination of these two great hexing magics being unleashed at the same time caused the woman to tremble violently. She was formed from divine will, but all of a sudden, she found herself severed from the divine will of her true self.

“What are you doing!?!?” she cried in shock, her face falling.

Next, Karma enmeshed her, and strands composed of the five elements sealed her inside. Meng Hao lifted his hand, and the woman’s body gradually began to shrink. In the blink of an eye, she became a glowing white sphere which floated down to land on his palm. He immediately crushed it.

A boom echoed out as Karma was shattered. The woman let out a bloodcurdling scream as she was completely destroyed along with her Karma.

Now, she was completely incapable of returning to Planet North Reed and her true self.

“Court death, and you just might succeed,” said Meng Hao coolly. He opened his hand, and countless glowing particles rose up into the air. Meng Hao could now sense another vengeful spirit circulating around him.

No one could see the venomous stares; Meng Hao was the only one who could sense them.

Meanwhile, on one of the four great planets that circulated the Ninth Mountain, Planet North Reed, there was a continent that covered half of the entire planet. The entire continent belonged to one clan, and that was the Li Clan!

According to some legends, this Li Clan was founded by the descendants of Lord Li of the Ninth Mountain and Sea. As to whether or not that was true, it was impossible for any gossipers to determine. Although, if it were true, why hadn’t Lord Ji exterminated this Li Clan?

In the vast lands of the Li Clan was a towering altar, the design of which was very unique; it was shaped like an enormous trident. At the very tip of the trident, a woman sat cross-legged in meditation. She had very long hair that hung down her body, and she was exceptionally beautiful, almost celestial.

Suddenly, her eyes snapped open to reveal a sharp, but confused light.

“The divine sense clone I left behind for my younger brother’s clan on South Heaven just died….”

    1. So he realizes that his doings do not conform withi his heart, what exactly is he going to sever? Since the 3 severings must match each other in order to reach dao seeking.

      1. What everything leading up to this has seemed to be pointing to, is that you cultivate the devilishness in your heart, and then sever it to seek the true dao or sever the true dao and seek devilishness…? I’m sure he’ll figure it out and then pill demon will explain…
Just like he severed the resurrection lily as it was shackling him, the devilishness in his heart that seeks to control him ought to also be able to be severed to let him better conform to his dao.
It seems like it’s more the daos he uses as blades to sever must conform to his path, not necessarily what he severs?
        Sommit like that at least…

        1. The interesting bit will be the fact that the second dao used was the will of the ninth mountain. It conforms to the ‘nothing restraining’ because it was used to sever the perfection in his heart that he clung to, but it’s a rather different kind of dao than is typically used, I imagine…

  1. Finally caught up ^.^ I wasn’t sure whether I was gonna like this or not, but I’m not gonna lie, the dad part when meng hao was concocting the pill totally made me cry. Good read

  2. Cheers, that 3rd severing is an interesting one, I liked the idea of somehow severing devilish eps, but if he’s not suitably devilish would he be able to?

    1. Having any amount of devilish will in his heart that would affect his mind goes against his goal of being able to do as he wants and freedom and whatnot, so to some extent it doesn’t matter how much devilishness there is, you’d want to get rid of any there is…? If you become a devil, though, it’s kinda too late to sever devilishness, as it would at that point already become too much of your being. Or at the very least, it wouldn’t make sense to sever devilishness at that point, as you chose the path of the devil? Or sommit. Maybe.

      1. Though it does say you need a Devilish Will for Devil Severing/Dao Seeking… But since it’s compared to Dao Hearts, and we already know that not all Dao Hearts are firm… hmm…

  3. Third severing : Sever the emotions. If he cannot sever the devilish, then what will he sever ?
I think Meng Hao is making an error about the conditions necessary to unleash the 5th rank of Blood Demon Grand Magic.
If, on the end of his path, he needs to sever the devilish, then it means he needs to sever the slaughters and the killings. But he needs it in order to break through the Blood Demon Grand Magic.

Paradox. Why would the Patriach Blood Demon give him this one-of-a-kind magic to him if he knew about these contradictions ?

      1. It really kind of slipped my mind that Blood Demon didn’t actually explain his plan to Meng Hao, i guess he just believed in his character and expected him to make the choice, or would intervene personally afterwards. After all it probably would be hard to cultivate a devilish will on purpose knowing you’ll get rid of it later.

    1. Not sever the emotions.
Blood Demon clearly said either Meng Hao severs hid Devilish Will & attain his true Dao or he ends up severing his Dao & becomes a Devil.
And the catch is, Blood Demon is not influencing Meng Hao’s choice in the matter. He just pretty much provided the perfect situation for Meng Hao to come to his own realization & choose.
I, for one, think Meng Hao will realize this golden opportunity that Blood Demon gave him & sever his Devilish Will. Meng Hao has always remained true to his Dao.

  4. Thanks for the chapter Deathblade, anonpuffs, Madam Deathblade, Yascob, GNE, Lingson, joeljbright, Azusky, Baby Deathblade, Thien Nhien Huynh, Antoine Villatte, and MM!

  5. I wonder if Meng Hao will immediately reach Dao Seeking once he completes his Third Severing.
Also, I almost feel like it’s too typical for Er Gen to write a more powerful enemy to show them self once the MC reaches the prerequisite level. Chances are this person will be tied in with hints given beforehand.
I’m guessing that she’s a false Immortal, since True Immortals are supposed to be ridiculously stronger than false immortals, to the point where it’s like a difference in stage of cultivation.

    1. Neh. The point is her clan occupies a continent on planet North Reed. So far the story has mostly been restricted to the southern continents, and central ocean, of planet South Haven.

(Well, plus a few trips into exotic spaces…).

      1. Well yeah, but that’s really typical too. Enemy from another place expands the area/scope of the story (usually where the people are stronger. See: ATG, MGA, ST, recent chapters in LLS, CD, not to mention Japanese and Western novels). I’m guessing there’ll be a deeper connection somewhere, whether this is setting it up or will capitalize on previous chapters is unknown.

  6. So what will Meng Hao’s Third Severing going to be, if he’s not going to sever the devilish? It seems like instead, he’ll be severing something related to it, but not it exactly.
    Thanks for the chapter!

  7. Seems like the arc is finally headed for the climax. This arc has been a lot of fun, but now that Meng Hao mentions it, I’m also kind of tired of constant slaughter and little in the way of development of side characters.

    Thanks for the chapter.

    1. It seems like he’s about to start going places now. Chances are high that he’ll start wandering planets soon, although I think he’ll probably go to the Northern and Eastern Lands first, at the very least to collect Lord Fifth and the Meat Jelly as well as to scope out the Ji clan/fulfill his childhood dream of seeing the Great Tang.

  8. You really have to hand it to Er Gen though, he kind of stayed true to how these sorts of wars really are. There were few moments of big stylish and/or impactful scenes, even the awakening of his Second true self seemed muted somehow. I’m not totally sure if that was intended but knowing Er Gen i wouldn’t put it past him to give the whole arc the droning feeling to match with what Meng Hao is feeling because just like Meng I am tired of the fights and slaughter especially after he met back up with his friends and the sorrows Chen Fan had to deal with. It all came together to really give you a heavy heart and no where near as exciting as other arcs and yet not as powerful in the feels as the Demon Immortal Sect arc.

    Many Thanks for the Chapter!

    1. That baby is Patriach Deathblade and Madam Deathblade’s baby who was born months ago.. Not yet a year I remember. I sure hope he will continue Patriach Deathblade’s path of Translation, even if it’s only a hobby.

  9. 😍 BDB is just too freakin’ adorable!
    Thanks for the chapter!
Getting hyped for the 3rd Severing! Dao Seeking is just around the corner then… We all know where Meng Hao is headed next!

  10. Thanks for the chapter, Deathblade, Madam Deathblade, Baby Deathblade, anonpuffs, Yascob, Lingson, GNE, joeljbright, Azusky, Thien Nhien Huynh, Antoine Villatte and MM!

  11. Ive always wondered what would happen to people of lower cultivation when Meng Hao cast the 8th hex on a core formation or something . Only thing ive seen this entire novel is that people are only sealed for a split second or 1 breath . Because of equal or more powerful cultivation base .

    MASTER DEATHBLADE PLEASE ENLIGHTEN ME

    1. I’m fairly certain it’d seal them forever since he’s basically commanding the energy of Heaven and Earth. At least, I’d imagine so considering how overpowered the 7th Hex is. The 8th Hex is definitely weaker than the 7th one (“The First Generation is the Ancestor. The Second Generation is the Inheritor. The Third Generation is the most powerful. After the Fourth Generation, the successive generations grow weaker…. But the Ninth Generation is the ultimate! If the Ninth Generation is not slain, it is the pinnacle!”) Of course, since he hasn’t used it it’s really hard to tell.

On that topic, I have a feeling that Meng Hao’s Hex is going to have the ability to “Seal the Heavens.” As we know from Righteous Bestowal, to seal is also the ability to bestow, meaning that in essence he would have the ability to do with all of creation as he wills. All of creation is made of the Heavens and the Earth, Lord Li’s legacy seems to be the ability to fundamentally affect the Ninth Mountain area, changing it through one’s decrees. After all, even the stages of cultivation that Ke Yunhai talked about seem to differ from the current ones, the sky is different, and iirc it was repeatedly said that perfection had been allowed in ancient times, although people capable of reaching that Perfect Stratum were extremely few.

Now that I’ve written out my previous points, I have a conjecture, but it’ll take a bit to straighten out the proof:
1)It seems like only Immortals have the ability to leave their planet, and possibly visit the other Mountains.
2)There seems to be an Immortal Tribulation from what Meng Hao’s parents said, although it seems to be indirect judging by the parents words.
      3) Meng Hao’s father said that he couldn’t help Meng Hao since he feared, contrary to his wife’s opinion about why he was acting the way he was, Meng Hao was too talented rather than not talented enough. We can assume that the father knows about more than his wife who should definitely also be an Immortal. His father also seems to have a deeper background, judging by the fact that he had that pill or something in order to revive Meng Hao if Meng Hao failed. Thus I think it’s safe to assume that he should be privy to even deeper secrets than even the Fang clan, who are the old followers of Lord Li.
4)it seems like the Legacy can only be obtained by an Immortal, and probably only a True one at that
      5) When I was searching the chapter the quote about the nine generations of demon sealers came from, I also chanced upon the quote from the spear forged by the Third Demon Sealer: “The Third Generation Demon Sealer completed his ancient Dao and broke through the Nine Mountains and Seas. However, in that moment, he was buried in the starry sky. As for his death… there are clues that have been left behind that relate to a shocking secret.” (chapter 497)
There are other things I could post but wouldn’t add all that much and would just make this gigantic post even longer.

Basically what my conjecture is is that there’s a higher stage than just being an Immortal. It could even be being a deity, and would tie in to my theory about what Meng Hao’s Hex will be, as well as explain why he can be called the “Ultimate” and why Blood Demon said that Demon Sealers were on the wrong path, since their path was merely to manipulate, not to control or even create. The difference might different or even smaller than that, but there should be something fundamental about them that held them back. Something along the lines of emotions. The Third Demon sealer “completed his ancient Dao and broke through the Nine Mountains and Seas. However, in that moment, he was buried in the starry sky.” In other words, he was able to break the shackles of the Nine Mountains and Seas (the Heavens and the Earth should subject everything to its laws since it makes them) , but since he was on a wrong path as a Demon Sealer, he wasn’t able to successfully complete the breakthrough and I assume this was due to a tribulation once one reaches that level, similar to the Immortal Tribulation but FAR more terrifying. This also coincides with #1 similar to only Immortals being able to travel through space, then a higher cultivation level breaks through the Nine Mountains and Seas to another place. Blood Demon knows this so he’s trying to help Meng Hao. He could even have been friends with the Third Demon Sealer himself, which would explain why he’s on good terms with Demon Sealers as well as having the Seventh Hex as well as everything else about why he’s acting the way he does.
As for his father: I established (I hope) in #3 that he should be privy to secrets and feared Meng Hao being too talented, combined with the Demon Spear Lonelytomb having a shocking secret, makes it even more likely. The fact that even his wife doesn’t understand why he’s so against her helping Meng Hao despite it affecting his karma and making his tribulation harder, shows me that he knows more than her. She should be an immortal and understand the immortal tribulation, so this reinforces my point about a ridiculously dangerous tribulation for reaching that ultimate(?) realm. This also helps to explain most people’s problems with Meng Hao’s sister (Fang Yu?) being helped by their parents while he isn’t. It would also explain why he was able to get all 10 lights in the Demon Immortal Legacy area despite probably not being the chosen one. His destiny is above even that of a Legacy Controller.
As for the Legacy: I believe that the Nine Legacies are probably something of the equivalent to that higher stage as a False Immortal is to a True Immortal. There are obviously limits on becoming a False Immortal, as one has to reach Dao Seeking and surpass it, which is still very difficult. It stands to reason that control of a Mountain and Sea would have far more stringent requirements. It allows for control of a portion of creation, but doesn’t allow one to create their own Heavens and Earth. Essentially, there are limits on what you can do, but you also get major benefits and control impossible for anyone else below that of those who can break through the stars.

This post was far longer than I thought it would be. What do you guys think? Am I just spouting bull?

      1. There ARE more realms after immortal, it goes mortal, immortal, ancient, dao. It has been suggested that mountain lords are at the dao level. (the one who explained this was Ke Yunhai).
It has also been hinted at that there is something beyond the 9 mountains and seas, for example when meng hao was in the nascent soul stage experts watching him said he used wind from beyond the 9 mountains and seas.

About his family, his father should be someone of extreme status in the fang clan of the planet east victory. However his mother’s Meng family is much more mysterious than the Fang clan so I am leaning towards her background being stronger.
That being said his father seems to know way more about Meng Hao’s destiny than his mother, Zhixiang said that her sect used augury to determine that lord Li’s successor will come from planet east victory (which going from what Meng hao’s father has said and the fact that Meng Hao is the mc of this story the successor will obviously be him :p)
Meng Hao’s father seems to know this but for w/e reason his mother is left in the dark.

        1. yeah, there is something beyond the mountain and seas. i don’t remember the name but it is where lord li supposedly originated from and where he might have gone back to when he disappeared (i don’t think he really died). that places is also likely where the coffin with the 9 (i think its 9) butterflies is located, where the chariot might have come from (the 9 butterflies were also seen in the vision MH saw from the chariot), and also the man in the armor on the boat came from.

        2. I believe that here’s another realm between the mortal and immortal realms

There’re Mortal Realm, (Qi Condensation to Core Formation) Spirit Realm (Nascent Soul to Dao Seeking), Immortal Realm, Ancient Realm and finally Dao Realm

    2. Erm…the whole purpose of sealing people is cause one “can’t” kill/defeat or make them surrender

If the enemy is aan entire level below Meng Hao, then why would he even bother going to all the trouble of sealing somebody?

I mean, he just kill/cripple/defeat them with a finger right?

  12. Thanks for the chapter Deathblade, anonpuffs, Madam Deathblade, Yascob, GNE, Lingson, joeljbright, Azusky, Thien Nhien Huynh, Antoine Villatte, MM, and Er Gen!
