Book 20, The Crown’s Riddle – Chapter 10, Right and Wrong

The aura of black energy swirled around Bonin, making him look like a savage fiend.

Bonin suddenly leapt forward, and the ground beneath him instantly split apart, with a deep crevice in the earth appearing beneath where his feet had been. Rocks and sand flew everywhere, while Bonin himself charged forward lightning-fast towards Linley’s group of four. A long black spear appeared in Bonin’s hand, and his longspear shot out like a giant python that was ravenously attempting to devour Linley’s group.

Bonin’s eyes were bloodshot, and he was filled with a murderous intent.

The adamantine heavy sword appeared in Linley’s hand. An earthen yellow aura swirled around it, and quite casually, Linley swept it towards Bonin. Although his movements seemed slow, the adamantine heavy sword’s speed was actually several times faster than that of the longspear, and it struck Bonin directly on his body.

Bonin, who had been charging upwards, was knocked down to the ground, smashing against the rocky mountain and shattering it.

“Impossible.” Bonin looked at Linley, stunned. And this, his face steadied. Letting out a deep growl, he sent the longspear in his hand flying towards Linley…

A translucent ripple shot out from the longspear towards Linley.

From the center of Linley’s forehead, an extremely minute Voidwave Sword ripple shot out, effortlessly shattering that translucent spear ripple attack. However, because the Voidwave Sword was too small, after destroying that translucent spear ripple, it too collapsed.

The nearby Bebe gave Linley a puzzled glance. “Boss’ soul is incredibly strong. When he uses his own spiritual energy, the effect is more than ten times more powerful than when he uses Sovereign’s Might. When infused with his Will…although it might be a bit weak in terms of profound mysteries, the soul attacks of my Boss isn’t much weaker than the likes of Magnus. To kill someone like Bonin is simplicity itself. So why is it that Boss intentionally spared him?”

Bebe had been with Linley for far too long. He knew exactly how powerful Linley was.

If that Voidwave Sword ripple had been just slightly larger, it would have killed Bonin. But Linley had chosen not to do so.

“Not good.” Those guards all grew very tense.

But they were clearly far too weak. They couldn’t even compete against Bonin, much less challenge Linley.

“Haha…” Seeing the situation, Bonin began to laugh wildly. “No wonder, no wonder! So you two adulterers managed to invite such a powerful expert to help out. Most likely, even amongst Lord Prefect level experts, this person would be ranked quite highly. Haha, if you want to kill me, then kill me. To die in the hands of an expert like you isn’t shameful!”

Bonin actually stopped fighting.

“Eh?” Linley was rather surprised.

But as soon as Bonin’s words came out…

“Whoosh!” He suddenly dove into the ground, fleeing so fast that even Linley was somewhat surprised. This was because the speed at which Bonin moved was actually even faster than the speed at which he had attacked just now. Linley secretly sighed in praise. “This Bonin seemed to have gone berserk, but he actually is quite the schemer.”

Linley was in no rush, instead simply descending.

Linley’s left foot stepped heavily onto the ground. “Rumble…” An invisible rippling surge of power spread out through the ground. Bonin who was currently fleeing for his life at high speed underground, wasn’t able to dodge at all. This invisible ripple grew larger and larger, until it finally struck him!

“Bang!” Bonin’s body trembled, and he spat out a mouthful of fresh blood.

Linley himself disappeared, then reappeared right next to Bonin. It was Worldwalking!

“You won’t be able to escape.” Linley stretched his hand out, grabbing Bonin by the shoulder, then charging upwards, preparing to leave the underground.

“Hmph.” Bonin sent his longspear stabbing towards Linley’s chest.

“Clang.” A ripple spread out from Linley’s body. The spear thrust didn’t harm Linley at all.

“This…how is this possible?” Bonin’s face changed dramatically.

He was still a Six Star Fiend, and one who was using Sovereign power. Linley didn’t use any sort of armor at all, and yet, the defense he was using formed from divine earth power alone was able to block the blow. This was too terrifying.

“Even your father would be unable to harm me, much less you.” Linley gave Bonin a calm glance while at the same time dragging Bonin aboveground.

Defenses infused with Will were quite frightening indeed. Even Linley wasn’t able to kill Magnus, and was only able to drive him into chaotic space. From this, one could imagine how powerful that sort of defense was.

Linley’s Will was even more powerful than the will of Magnus. Although he was somewhat weaker when it came to defensive profound mysteries, he wasn’t that much weaker. It was indeed as Linley had said; the energy defense he created was impenetrable to Lord Prefect level experts. Linley could let them attack freely, and they still wouldn’t be able to do anything to him.

“He…who is he?” Bonin was now completely stunned.

This sort of power was too vast. He was like a tiny creek who had encountered a vast, endless ocean. He no longer had any thoughts of fighting back.

Linley tossed Bonin towards the ground, sending him flying towards Olivier and Diana.

Bonin, who had been feeling dispirited, instantly was once more enraged upon seeing Olivier and Diana. He rose to his feet, wanting to charge forward and attack again. Seeing this, Linley couldn’t help but frown. He stretched his hand out…and immediately, 108 rays of earthen yellow light flew out, surrounding and trapping Bonin within them.

A spherical prison was formed, with Bonin crushed inside it.

“Aaaaaaaaaah!” Bonin bellowed ferociously, wanting to burst it apart.

“It is useless.” Linley said calmly. “You are a Six Star Fiend. Even using Sovereign power, you are unable to escape.”

Originally, this technique only had a compressive effect, but Linley had changed it and combined it with his Blackstone Prison ability. The spherical prison, aside from possessing a powerful compressive effect, also created an energy cage that was extremely tough to break. There was no way for a person to escape.

“So a day like this came for even you, Bonin.” Diana said angrily.

“Father, kill him and avenge my older brother.” Deia said frantically.

The corners of Olivier’s eyes were twitching, and he angrily walked towards Bonin.

Bonin, trapped in the cage, began to bellow. “Diana, have I, Bonin, ever mistreated you? Whatever you wanted, I gave you. Whatever you disliked about me, I changed! In order to make you happy, I was willing to lower my head and bend the knee to my father, and ask to borrow money from him so that I could buy whatever you wanted! Diana, tell me, tell me…why did you betray me?!?”

Diana just stared at him coldly.

“Haha, you left our home, and I searched the entire world for you. This Bloodridge Continent is an enormous place, and by the time I found you, I saw that you had actually gotten married to this useless piece of garbage named Olivier. And you had children?” Bonin was so angry, he was laughing. “I didn’t kill you. I took you back home, and I tried to coax you to come back to me, to change your mind. But you?” Bonin was in an utterly berserk state now.

“When we married, did I force you into it? You married me willingly!” Bonin bellowed with rage.

Diana stared furiously at Bonin. “Bonin, yes, I did agree to marry you, but what did you do? You kept on taking a fancy to other women, and you’d bring them back. And…you didn’t even spare my little sister! Before marrying you, you had me completely fooled, but after marrying you, I saw what type of person you truly are. Of course I was going to leave. The farther I could go, the better!”

Bonin looked like a caged, berserk tiger. His eyes flashed with ferociousness.

“Right. I took a fancy to those women, but that was just out of lust, understand!?” Bonin howled angrily. “So what if I, Bonin, took a fancy to some women and snatched them, bringing them back to serve me? I only had a single wife! I wasn’t like my father and those others, who married multiple women. I only had one wife. You! As for those other women, that was just lust. Understand?! Look at those women! Did I keep any of them for more than a month? Is it wrong for me to be a bit lusty?”

“You are too domineering and tyrannical.” Diana shook her head. “You feel that you did nothing wrong, but I can’t accept what you did. Especially the way you treated my little sister.”

“Fine, I admit it, I’m domineering and tyrannical!” Bonin laughed angrily. “But after I brought you back this time, I didn’t touch another woman again, right?”

“Too late.”

Diana said coldly. “Just because you didn’t touch any women this time didn’t mean that what you did in the past didn’t happen. I’ve already seen through you. And what makes me the angriest…is that when I agreed to go back with you, you said that you would spare Olly and my two children. But in reality?”

Bonin laughed loudly, savagery flashing in his eyes. “Spare them? My woman was together with another man, and even had children with him. You tell me. Could I possibly let that man live and let those two spawns of sin live? Nobody can touch that which belongs to me. If someone does, I’ll make sure he dies!!!”

The black aura had already disappeared from Bonin’s body. His Sovereign’s Might had been used up.

Linley dispelled the prison part of his technique, leaving behind only the compressive power. This pure compressive power alone was enough to bind Bonin.

Olivier walked forward coldly. “Bonin, you killed my son, Leya. Today, you will pay with your life.” Olivier didn’t waste any words, and that mystic icesword appeared in his hands.

“Kill me?” Bonin snickered as he looked at Olivier. “Come then. Let me tell you something, Olivier! I, Bonin, always have a backup plan. The body I have been keeping at Yustone Castle is just one of several. My other bodies aren’t even here; they are training in seclusion. It is no big deal if you kill one of my divine clones. There will come the day when I will let you know…what the consequences for angering me are!”

Bonin looked towards Diana. “Diana…you whore, since you are determined to leave me, then I’ll tell you this…there will come the day when I will destroy you, I swear it! I will personally destroy you!”

Diana, hearing this, couldn’t help but feel her heart tremble.

Olivier just stared coldly at Bonin. In an emotionless voice, he said, “Destroy her? If you have the ability to do so, then have your other divine clones come over. I’ll be waiting for you.”

“Fine. I’ll come find you.” Bonin had a man-eating look in his eyes.

As for Olivier, his gaze was as cold as his sword.

“I’ll be respectfully awaiting your arrival at all times. Today, though, I’ll first destroy this clone.” Olivier finished his words, and then stabbed out with his mystic icesword. The compressed Bonin was completely unable to fight back. In reality, without the aid of Sovereign power, Bonin wasn’t a match for Olivier at all.

A sword pierced through Bonin’s skull.

Bonin’s eyes dimmed.

“This is indeed just one of Bonin’s divine clones. His other divine clones are not present.” Olivier realized, through divine sense, that only a single divine spark was knocked out.

Linley and Bebe just watched these events occur. In their minds, they sighed.

Who was right? Who was wrong?

From Bonin’s perspective, he was indeed sincere in his love towards Diana. But there was nothing that could be done; Diana’s feelings for him were dead. As Bonin saw it, it was Olivier who had taken his wife. Of course he had to kill him.

But from Olivier’s perspective, he and Diana loved each other and had children together. Their calm, blissful life was destroyed; Bonin had stolen his wife and killed his son. Of course Olivier had an irreconcilable hatred for Bonin.

As for Diana, she wasn’t able to stand Bonin any longer and had left him in search of a new life. But Bonin had then killed her son.

Who was in the right? Who was in the wrong?

“Olivier, where is Leya buried?” Diana asked. “I want to see him.” Leya’s death had been a huge blow to Diana.

“Alright.” Olivier nodded.

“Then let’s go.” Linley and Bebe immediately led Olivier’s family of three into the metallic lifeform, then departed. Only, this time, they didn’t head back to Indigo Prefecture, instead first paying a visit to the place where Leya had been buried. Linley didn’t kill the members of Bonin’s personal guard either.

“Master…” The guards had watched everything happen without being able to resist.

The white-browed leader of the guards furrowed his brows…

Skymount Prefecture. Blackcloud Mountains.

The Lord Prefect of Skymount Prefecture lived here. The prefectural soldiers stationed here numbered in the millions.

“Lord Prefect, young master Bonin’s most powerful divine clone has died.” The white-browed man suddenly appeared here. Actually, he also played the role of message relayer, and would often inform the Lord Prefect about what was happening to Bonin.

The Lord Prefect, who had been seated, suddenly rose to his feet, his eyes flashing savagely. “He died. And what did you do?”

“Lord Prefect, that person was too powerful.” Terrified, the white-browed man fell to his knees.

In terms of being domineering and tyrannical, this Lord Prefect of Skymount Prefecture was even more terrifying than his son. The white-browed man was terrified that, in his rage, the Lord Prefect would kill him.

“Tell me what happened.” The Lord Prefect of Skymount Prefecture growled.

“Yes, Lord Prefect. That day, young master Bonin…” The white-browed man began to explain in detail. He even gave a rough description of the ‘battle’ between Linley and Bonin. Listening to this, the Lord Prefect began to frown deeply. After the white-browed man finished speaking, he gave the order while frowning, “Oh, left after boarding a black, sword-shaped metallic lifeform? Fine. Per my orders, every single intelligence agent within Skymount Prefecture needs to be on watch. If any of them find a black, sword-shaped metallic lifeform fly past them, especially one with five individuals inside, they must report it.”

“Yes.” The white-browed man, upon hearing this, instantly understood that the Lord Prefect was going to take revenge.

But the white-browed man felt puzzled. “After hearing what I said, the Lord Prefect should understand how terrifying that person was. Why is it that he still dares to seek revenge?”

From watching that earlier battle, the white-browed man was able to guess…

That the brown-haired man’s strength should be ranked amongst the top-tier Lord Prefects. The Lord Prefect of Skymount Prefecture shouldn’t be confident in his ability to win.

After the white-browed man departed, the Lord Prefect of Skymount Prefecture waved his sleeves, and a surge of Destruction-type divine power swept out, closing the door.

“Bonin. This child is too arrogant and solitary. He never listens to me. I had wanted to let him go out and adventure a bit, but who would have imagined…ugh…” A faint, baleful aura appeared on his face. “Bonin’s most powerful divine clone is dead. His future is now uncertain! Hmph, you killed my son…hmph, a thousand years ago, I would’ve had to just let this stand. But now…I want to see who did it!” The Lord Prefect hesitated a moment, then waved his hand…

A jade green box appeared in his hand.

He opened the box, which had a sheet of green paper within it. Atop the sheet of paper, there was a bracelet, and atop the bracelet there were nine green beads inlaid into it.

The Lord Prefect of Skymount Prefecture looked at the bracelet. He couldn’t help but take a deep breath, and then his eyes began to glow.

“It is time to use it.” The Lord Prefect placed the bracelet on his right arm.

Upon wearing this bracelet, it seemed as though the Lord Prefect’s very aura had changed.

The Lord Prefect pondered for a moment, and then his body divided into two. One had long black hair, while the other had long silver hair. The one with long silver hair took the jade green box, storing it away, then left the room through the door. As for the Lord Prefect with long black hair, this one remained standing within the room.

“Once I use this…”

The Lord Prefect with black hair frowned. Instantly, the Lord Prefect with silver hair who was already next to the door came to a halt. He retrieved the jade green box, removing that slip of green paper from within it.

“Crackle…” A surge of terrifying energy emanated from his palms.

The green paper trembled momentarily, but didn’t shatter.

“It is hard for even me to destroy this sheet of paper.” The silver-haired Lord Prefect waved his hand and retrieved an interspatial ring, bound it with blood, then stored the green sheet of paper into the interspatial ring.

“Hmph.” Applying a bit of force, he crushed the interspatial ring with his fingers.

That sheet of paper was gone now.

“Haha…from today onwards, no one else will know this secret.” The silver-haired Lord Prefect laughed as he left. As for the black-haired Lord Prefect, he lowered his head to look at the bracelet around his arms, then smiled slightly.

    1. What’s more,
      “You’d bring them back”
“You didn’t even SPARE my little sister”

That guy seems to have used force and “brought” the women to his castle, he’s a f*** serial rapist.

      1. too much sexism and male chaivinism in most xianxia novels.
romance parts are like reading terrible shoujo manga. a woman, no matter how strong, will always have to be saved by the mc in the end.
and rape and victim blaming are way too abundant. and that terrible posessivenes.
women can only have sex with their one and only husband while a man can have as many as he wants? that’s some messed up logic.
women need to be stronger, their weakness is the greatest letdown in this novel.

        1. It’s because the target audience are single working-class males in China which is one of the most massively censored nations on the face of the planet and has massive class disparity.

These novels are meant to be cathartic, and the villains are made to be caricatures of the wealthy in China intentionally. They couldn’t get away with actually telling people to kill oligarchs who use their power to tread on the working masses in China, they’d end up in a gulag for the rest of their lives. So they invent imaginary villains.

Reading about some fantasy oligarch being an evil self-serving asses and then getting their comeuppance is the whole point of these novels if you haven’t caught on already.

        2. There are strong women all over these stories. It’s not that women are treated that way because they’re weak, EVERYONE is treated that way if they’re weak. How many times has Linley had to run away with his tail between his legs before his soul mutation? In xianxia, the strong make the rules, the weak follow them. Gender doesn’t matter.

          1. Remember it was stated that women who are of the saint level and higher are much much rarer because it is not anywhere near as high a number of women who practice martial might. It takes certain things for them to do so. Just look at the world today. In comparison to the ratio of working men to working women there are more working men than women. Not to say that women are not working but that in general women have other options. Ex1: a woman who is married can, finances willing, choose to become a housewife. This does not mean they are lesser but simply that they choose to focus on making their home a better place for their husband and children. Its a choice. In the end its all about choices and it so happens that in most worlds including our own there are simply less women who practice physically intensive or labor intensive activities such as martial arts versus men. This of course doesn’t include the agricultural works as that in and of itself to me is a much more necessary and labor intensive than the normally looked at job sphere.

    2. in most primitive cultures women are property. and they have zero responsibility over their own actions. they are treated like children. and children are not even human, because in most cultures children dont have basic human rights and they are owned by their parents and families. the Chinese culture is rich and old, but it is at least a few generation behind when it comes to modern morality and human rights. and it is often reflected in the art and writing, such as this novel. they are not alone in this, other cultures are as bad or even worse. <3 chinese people! food is great women are beautiful, but you all a bit stoopid. sometimes i feel like people from other cultures are not of the same species. they are objectively wrong about morality and yet they dont seem to notice.

      1. humans are idiots, true. but what you say about chinese being behind a few generations sounds a bit too general, its like saying the islam is bad or something.
i think ren said something to that, that his mother? was worried that western people would think chinese people act the way it is written in these xianxia novels, which is definitly not true lol

        1. Most religions have bad stuff in them and nearly all extremism is bad.
Islam is not worst then Christianity or Judaism but some Islamic country’s are too extreme in there religion.

I do not think that Chinese people behave this way at all and women rights are quite good in China and have been improving for a long time. But this is just such a common theme that you can not help to think that there is at least a bit of this kind of thinking but maybe a bit less extreme.

For example in this chapter it seems to me like the author really tried to make a moral dilemma.

          1. Remember extremism is the act of taking passages out of context to fit into an agenda that has nothing to do with the religion in the first place. Its to use whatever helps to justify said agenda even if the agenda is morally, ethically, and even religiously wrong. Crusades are an example of a series of actions that used Christian theology to support conquering and plunder of countries. Modern day terrorism is an example of Islamic believers who take action whilst supporting their actions with Islamic theology. Whether this is in context or not depends, but usually is taken out of context.

        2. lol @ “it’s like saying islam is bad, or something.”

yeah, islam *is* bad. just like every other religion, from Buddhism on up. it’s inherently a bad thing to convince people to believe in stuff that is demonstrably untrue, for many reasons. we don’t give people a pass for investing money foolishly because “god told them to”, so why are you making it sound like structuring your *entire life* around a bunch of just-so stories is a morally good thing?

that said, the OP took it too far. just because people have a shitty set of morals doesn’t mean they’re of a different species, anymore than the white slaveowners were a different species from the white people of today who vaunt their “western culture” as being culturally superior because the mass-killing of innocents they now condone is being done overseas and by drone.

both of those things — hypocritical white western culture, and horribly sexist chinese culture— mean people need educating, society needs changing, and we need to stop making and accepting excuses for bullshit.

      2. Nearly all cultures did loads of horrible stuff back in the “good old days”, but I had kind of hoped that China had moved away from that. Which when it comes to women I thought they mostly had, but you can at least see traces of that kind of thinking in many wuxia novels.

I do know that there are many successful Chinese women, but old ways of thinking die hard.

        1. Ugh – this isn’t a reflection on China’s treatment of women. It is authors going out of their way to make villains into bad guys.

These City Lords, Clan Leaders and Royalty acting in such a horrible manner are meant to be caricatures of evildoers, not support for that sort of behaviour.

      3. This comment makes me sad. The positive attitude just makes it that much worse 🙁

I could write a book here, but will instead advise you to take an anthropology course, and a comparative ethics course would help. I’m not going to say ‘you’re wrong’ or anything, because I believe that everyone is entitled to have their own opinion. However, many people will take your comment and beliefs as something that needs to be ‘fixed’ through the power of internet arguments. Try not to be offended by it, because just like you, we can’t help ourselves.

    3. I seriously cannot believe the author tried to be morally ambiguous about this shit.

This is absolutely nothing like Linley and Alice. Alice broke away to gain superior financial support for her family without addressing Linley.

Bonin was an extremely dangerous individual, his possessiveness proved that if Diana would address Bonin about her unhappiness, at most she’d end up dead for being a broken product. Of course she ran away! There’s a difference between a fleeing beaten wife of a drunk, and a gold-digging self-centered girlfriend.

Not that the author would know! Jesus…The drama / romance in this thing are complete nonsense..

    4. In a way you sort of have to pity him as he did at least try to be good to his wife. He basically cheated on her and then murdered her child saying any man who touches his women and resulting children should die… So he definitely is a bastard who didn’t treat her right.

But there is a difference between a piece of shit who knows what they are doing and doesn’t care vs a piece of shit who is just ignorant and thinks what they are doing it totally okay.

Both are still bad but the later is deserving of at least a little pity.

    1. No just no way, not every thing you see is an overgod artifact, most of the Soverigns dont even have it, an emissary? And it was mentioned that it wouldnt be of use to Highgods maybe with powerfull will but no one knows as of now

      1. I think there are three overgod artifacts when gathered, you can summon the overgod of life….. The crown, The bracelet, I think the last one’s a crystal thingy or something….

      2. Indeed.
No, just no. The moment they mention Overgod artifacts, suddenly they come across someone whom has it? The author really does write this story as he goes, doesn’t he.

  1. Heh, so she really did have a reason to leave… Who’s feeling pity for him again?

It’s been a while since Linley last used the adamantine heavy sword!

Thanks for the chapter Ren, hope you’ll feel better soon, take care!

      1. Yeah this is just weird, any decent human being should know this is clear cut.
Let’s take Alice and change her character just a bit, let’s say she is more powerful than Linley and let’s make her a bit more evil, she cheats on him as she did, now Linley gets away from her, marries Delia, has children and Alice isn’t alright with that, she kills one of his children and gives him the same speech that other ass gave in this chapter. Now Linley who is right and who is wrong?

        1. I feel like IET just got the moral of this story wrong, like, “oh he’s in love and she doesn’t love him anymore, let’s be sad for him he’s desperate”

No, no, just no dude, you depicted a sexist, kidnapper, child murderer and rapist. What is there to pity about him.

This “event” is frustrating me way too much. So far every single similar a**hole got what they deserved without Linley looking back, and that was right. I don’t get what made Linley think twice about it this time. Sigh.

          1. I thought it made sense inverse. Before I begin, let me make it clear that I don’t sympathize with Bonin one bit.

Bonin grew up in a society where might makes right. It was mentioned above that his father, for example, had multiple wives and being who he is probably got whatever he wanted, so in comparison Bonin has shown restraint.

Based on the above, it seems to me Diana never even bothered to communicate her discontent and simply left. Afterwards, Bonin realized what he did upset Diana and started to change his ways so to speak. By then, it was too late.

I see nothing wrong with that inverse, because, again, he was brought up where this behavior was the accepted norm, showed restraint compared to the norm, and he was willing to change afterwards.

As for trying to kill Oliver and the kids……again, this world is full of sociopaths and this reason in comparison seems sufficient to me. Killing Oliver and the kids because of the potential loss of face afterwards seems fine. Not to mention his personal feelings about a man who claimed his wife and children of his wife’s affair (from his pov) is fine to me.

          2. “it seems to me Diana never even bothered to communicate her discontent and simply left. ”

Wait, no kidding… it’s so obvious she manifested her discontent. The guy raping her sister was probably the time she felt it was too much, and it’s obvious the guy understood why she left. You missed the point…

Inverse or whatever, if his own wife had an ex and went and killed one of his children, would Linley be wondering if the guy was right or wrong? No. There’s no moral dilemma here.

          3. “Wait, no kidding… it’s so obvious she manifested her discontent. The guy raping her sister was probably the time she felt it was too much, and it’s obvious the guy understood why she left. You missed the point…”

Before she left, not after? Arguments about the subject, or ultimatums such keep bringing women home to sleep with and I’ll leave? I doubt it, again look at what we were told about Bonin’s actions, he stopped sleeping around when he returned with her, when it was clear to him what she thought on the subject. It seems a bit odd that he would sleep with her sister if she expressed such strong dislike about the him sleeping around, take her leaving the way he did, and go to such lengths to change himself for her.

“Inverse or whatever, if his own wife had an ex and went and killed one of his children, would Linley be wondering if the guy was right or wrong? No. There’s no moral dilemma here.”

If Linley was in this situation instead of Oliver? He would likely feel like Oliver does. But then, that’s the issue. From Oliver’s perspective he’s right and Bonin is wrong, and vice versa.

  2. Thanks a lot—-!
Who was right? Who was wrong? The thing is, you respect other people’s feelings, and don’t force them to marry you! Also, don’t cheat on your spouse! Of course, Bonin was wrong! It was too late for him and Diana to reconcile, after all.-shakes head- this case is really clear cut, in truth. If you truly love someone, let them be happy, even if it’s not with you…

    1. context and prospective. they are gods, not human. they live forever, they cant stay with the same person forever and they have no reason to. men are not build for monogamous relationships. just like ducks rape each other.

      1. And where did u get that men were not built for monogamous relationships from. Yeah they are gods and live forever but exactly how many characters who are important in this novel have multiple wives

      2. All of you guys are thinking based on the morals of our present society. These guys are not humans they are gods with infinite life. Our morals were created by us humans where the power of a single human is negligible. So we all agree upon something and most of us try to conform to these rules. These rules gradually became the morals of our society

Now consider someone like superman who is immune to every weapon we have created and he is extremely bad( according to our morals) and he tries to take over the entire world and he demolishs any semblance of government that is trying to govern any country then we will slowly lose our morals and calmly accept what he says as the new moral of the world (I am saying this happens over long period say 500 years. If you think this won’t happen just look back at history where 500 years ago polygamy was so prevalent).

So that’s how it is. The morals that we as humans accept were created and modified according to time based on our needs by ourselves.

The morals of our world and the morals of the world of CD is completely different so it’s not right to judge a person based on morals.

We all accepted when linley killed over 1000 soldiers when he tried to kill Claude who were just trying to protect their king who they worship and respect and feel proud about. The quarrel was between linley and Claude but all those soldiers became collateral. You could since Claude was the king linley would have no way to kill Claude without killing the soldiers but in our society where our morals dictate to not even take revenge killing others who were just doing their job is even more against our morals.

But we are able easily accept that but most of you guys are not accepting something when it comes to relationship…HA..sigh…

I am remembering a proverb from a movie which I recently saw.
“The battle between good and bad is to decide which is which”.

          1. Actually it was quite common for a poor family to sell their children in olden days. When a girl is selected to work as a concubine the whole family is awarded some money land and even rise in rank of nobility. If you had seen Kingdom manga you would have known that it was prevalent in china

        1. “But we are able easily accept that but most of you guys are not accepting something when it comes to relationship…HA..sigh…”

Missing the point, for me at least. The thing I don’t accept is rape, whatever setting the story has, I just can’t cope with that s**t.

  3. If I were to say linleys crown is an incomplete over god artifact and it even specially said that it’s missing gems so this bracelet might be the other part of the over god artifact

  4. Linley became invincible against highgods now it’s probably gonna be Linley versus sovereigns because of the over God artifact. I think Linley will not hide in a lower plane because some reason probably something to do with the clan but hello will probably gain power after hello completes the over God artifact

  5. Thanks Ren for the chapter and hope you feel better.

I do not get Linley’s moral dilemma here, Bonin was totally in the wrong. He raped several women including her sister in the name of lust but its all supposed to be alright because he didn’t officially marry them. He is sick! And he has some nerve to call her an adulterer.

    1. Rape is a very difficult term at that level of diety. A woman can essentially just kill them during the act while they are caught up in their lust. Plus, any damage they receive would be easily fixed. It is hard to really comprehend how Rape is conducted on such plane since it doesn’t generally work the same way. I feel more like it is black mailing. Aka forcing yourself on a target that submits willingly to the act for the sake of the material on them.

      1. Rape is rape. It doesn’t matter if the perpetrator and victim are deities with infinite lifespans or not. And your argument that the male would be “vulnerable” while raping the woman is mere assumption, as well as being rather horrifically apologetic towards rape.

Rape, like child abuse, are crimes that should disgust anyone who considers equality and ethics as not just mere words. Any person that abuses any power they may have to commit such acts, while considering that their power makes them “right”, obviously does not consider those they commit those acts upon to be “human”, or even a “person”, but simply an object that is subject to possession.

The Golden Rule – treat others as you wish yourself to be treated – exists in many cultures as a “fundamental ethic”. It is not an artificial ethic, but one formed as a natural consequence of recognising others as “people”, not objects.

Thanks for the chapter, RWX and team.

      2. Remember the case with Yale and Odin when Yale couldn’t kill Odin simply because he was too weak, even after Linley had him essentially defenseless? If there’s a big difference in power levels between the two, it won’t matter if the rapist is vulnerable or not. As for the damage………what about emotional trauma the victim will suffer? Can they just heal that away as well?

  6. Bonin’s boner led him to bone someone he really shouldn’t have. Now someone Bonin can’t fight against or run from has a bone to pick with him. Suddenly Bonin has come to the realization that he’s utterly, undeniably, and inescapably boned…

    Thanks for the chapter!

  7. people judging the morals of Linley’s society are being overly anachronistic. They are placing “modern” western thoughts of morality on to a fictional society. While both societies are in a situation of might makes right, unlike Linley’s society, we submit to the ideas of government, religion, mass populous. It is those force that form our basis for morality. In Linley’s society where a near-demigod can utterly destroy religions and kingdoms based on his own wants and desires , it is the morals of the strongest who decides on the morality of others. in this sense a claim could be made that since Bonin had the power to do as he wanted, he was in the right especially when it came to the fact of another man claiming his wife and forcing children on her. Thus, he was justified in annihilating that man and his offspring. Another, yet equally true, statement could be made stating that Oliver was right because he was married to the woman and Bonin killed his son. Thus, he was justified in annihilating that man. Who was truly right in the end? That is what Linley is asking himself. It is most likely because he knows that If it had been any other person besides a friend he would not have lent a hand. he even stated as much in an earlier chapter.

    1. “Might makes right” is a result of flawed reasoning, and a perverse worldview that objectifies everyone. Anyone capable of reasoning can determine others are “people”, just as they themselves are a “person”. Given this, it is an act of pure ego to assume you, being no different in being a “person” than anyone else, have the right to make those people subject to you.

“Might” does not equal “right”, but “might + ego” does equal “othering” (look it up) and objectification.

      1. not only in CD, but ST, BTTH and other xiania light novels “might makes right” is usually right. the strong do what they want and the weak have to live with it. if we look at it from our views yes bonin was wrong, but in CD whoever is stronger can do whatever the F*ck they want. xalan took 2 wives, bonin only took 1, and slept around. many people think linley shouldve took more then 1 wive, ie jeanne, alice. they say since dragonblood warriors have such low chance of fathering children he shouldve increased his number of wives to further his bloodline

      2. I find your statement both immensely hilarious and somewhat insightful.

In terms of what allows people to do horrible things to others I think you are mostly right. However, I find it laughable that you live in the world we do and think that ‘might makes right’ is a flawed world view. Why do people respect national borders? Why do people work hard rather than just kill others and take what was theirs? Because there are organizations like the military and the police that use force of threat of force to maintain their borders and law and order. ‘Might make right’ very well may be a flawed world view, but what does that say about the world we live and the choices we’ve made regarding it?

We really aren’t all that much better than the people in these stories. Sure we might not be as blatant about it as they are, but is that really a virtue. Let’s mask the reality, so we can delude ourselves. Let’s tell lies so we can live with the compromises. What great moral character we have, when this is apparently the best we’re capable. Or maybe it’s simply ‘good enough’ that holding ourselves to a higher standard is too troublesome.

The problem isn’t might, it never was. The problem has always been ego and fanaticism. If you can’t allow others to question your views, if your insulted by them doing so, if you need to lash out at them and their relatives for doing so, I have to ask what are you really are. ‘Cause you sure as **** aren’t a paragon of virtue, justice or righteousness. A petty tyrant, that’s what you are.

The ‘you’ in the above paragraph is a generic you so it isn’t directed at Duck but anyone who exhibits harmful and/or hostile fanaticism. Whether that be members of a religious group, an social or political movement, or any other group of people.

  8. Me- reading reasons for hating bonin and thinking man this guy is a lost cause can he get anymore bad.
Bonin- I’m not even as bad as my father
Me- you serious ? That’s it this is a hopeless case.I’m sure linley will kill him on the spot.
Linley- it’s tough to decide who is right and who is wrong.

  9. That paper thing that he put into the ring, then destroyed the ring. I bet during the fight with linley, he mutters something about ” haha my bracelet thingy has xxx power level, and the secert to it is sealed away in a destroyed ring” and linley be all like “haha i kill you, i am paragon, i have will, and open space and find paper” and other dude is all like “haha! on no!” then dies.

Linley: “Haha!” *Swish* *Swish* Liney strikes a few poses, then flies away into the distance.

then speed racer and his dad pop up and say
Speed’s Dad: “Haha! they are going to the big apple you see! Haha!”
    Speed: “Haha!”

And thus began the hunt for the 7 magical dragon balls.

  10. “Who was in the right? Who was in the wrong?”

Clearly the guy who murdered a child over her wife leaving him was not in the right, but I might be biased since I am not a big fan of senseless murder of infants.

  11. A lot of people seem to go with the path of Bonin being wrong, however, I think IET was on to something with this scenario. In a fictional setting such as this, we as the reader are often emotionally affected by the story depending on what perspective the story is written from. Taking Chu Feng for example, although there are some who dislike his character, many others don’t mind at all. With this situation of multiple women, Chu Feng is just as bad as Bonin from his raping to taking another lover when his other two are currently unconscious. What if any of the three did not want to be a part of the harem? It is in the same vein as when the women were raped by the magical monsters and there were a flurry of outrage even though Chu Feng’s actions received much less criticism. It all boils down to personal preference and the position of the protagonist vs others.
