Book 17, Indigo Prefecture – Chapter 58, Unwillingness

The Skyrite Mountains. Bloodbath Gorge. The Palace of the Four Divine Beasts.

When Linley entered alongside the Second Elder into the palace, he saw that quite a few people had already arrived. Linley swept them with his gaze. “Including me, a total of forty two Elders!” But of course, as time passed, more Elders entered, one by one.

“Linley.” Elder Garvey had a good personal relationship with Linley, and so he walked over. “The clan leaders are finally willing to lower their heads.”

Linley was stunned. “Garvey. Are you saying…?”

Garvey let out a low sigh. “Last month, our Four Divine Beasts clan suffered yet another severe setback. The clan leaders primarily aren’t able to endure it any longer either. Thus, they organized this Conclave. Or perhaps the clan leaders are also irresolute and so they wish the Elders to come discuss it. If the Elders agree, then…”

Linley understood as well.

Once the Conclave concluded, most likely the Four Divine Beasts clan would choose to turtle up within the Skyrite Mountains, no longer leaving. Although by doing so, the Four Divine Beasts clan would be able to preserve its strength, the reputation of the clan, built up over countless years, would suffer a huge blow.

To the many clansmen, the honor of the clan was more important than life itself. This was a hard choice for the four clan leaders to make.

“We suffered a severe setback last month? What happened?” Linley hurriedly asked.

“You never pay attention to anything!” Garvey shook his head. “A month ago, our Four Divine Beasts clan lost another three Elders. One of the Elders belonged to our Azure Dragon clan. Factoring in the last event twenty years ago…our Azure Dragon clan has only fifteen Elders who truly possess the power of Seven Star Fiends.

Linley’s heart couldn’t help but clench in worry.

“Rumble…” The main door to the palace slowly slid closed.

Linley couldn’t help but feel startled. Garvey said in a low voice, “The Elders are all here. Soon, the four clan leaders will arrive.” Linley took a careful look about. In the hall, there were a total of fifty three Elders, including the Grand Elder.

From a side room, four figures walked out in a line, sitting down together at the front of the palace. It was Gislason and the other clan leaders.

The entire hall immediately fell silent for a time.

Gislason and the other three clan leaders swept everyone with their gaze, then looked at each other. In the end, it was Gislason who spoke. His deep, rumbling voice echoed in the hall. “Everyone, today, we have invited all of you over. I trust that all of you have already guessed what the purpose of this meeting is!”

As soon as these words came out, everyone felt misery in their hearts, and even Linley felt a surge of grief.

They no longer had the strength to save the situation!

“Ever since our four ancestors died, our Four Divine Beasts clan has suffered one heavy setback after another. Fortunately, thanks to the assistance of the Lord Prefect of Indigo Prefecture, we were able to find our footing here in the Skyrite Mountains. Otherwise, our Four Divine Beasts clan would most likely have been turned into ash and disappeared like smoke, more than ten thousand years ago.

The palace was completely silent.

“Over the past ten thousand years, the Elders of our Four Divine Beasts clan have all fought fearlessly against the enemy for the sake of the glory of the clan. Ten thousand years ago, our Four Divine Beasts clan had a total of over two hundred Elders! But today, we only have fifty three remaining! It has only been ten thousand short years, but we’ve lost nearly two hundred Elders! Two hundred!!!” A moist light flashed in Gislason’s eyes.

The Elders below, thinking back to the other Elders who had perished over these years, all felt grief in their hearts.

Linley, as well, thought of the various members of his own Squad Thirteen who had died, as well as the forlorn image of Elder Arhaus, who had lost his most powerful clone.

For the sake of the clan, far too many Elders had sacrificed their most powerful divine clones. They had previously been Seven Star Fiends, lofty and mighty individuals. But after having lost their most powerful divine clones, they were now perhaps just ordinary Highgods.

“All these years, the other three clan leaders and I have been pondering…how long will we hold out for?” Gislason’s voice was hoarse. “Especially in the past few centuries. The eight great clans seem to have gone insane. They want to kill our Elders at all cost, even if they have to die with us. According to this current rate, in another few years, our Four Divine Beasts clan will most likely not have many Elders left.”

The Vermillion Bird Matriarch spoke out as well. “Right. One month ago in particular, we lost another three Elders! We four clan leaders have discussed this carefully…if this continues, we will only be able to endure for a few more centuries at most.”

The White Tiger Patriarch spoke out in a cold voice. “Since even if we continue to hold out, the only result will be that everyone will die, what’s the point?”

The Black Tortoise Patriarch rumbled, “This is why we wish to make sure that at least some of our elites will survive. After all, it isn’t so easy for someone to become a Seven Star Fiend and an Elder.”

Gislason said in a strong, forceful voice, “And so, we four clan leaders are united in agreement that we are to no longer fight against the eight great clans…all of the members of the clan are to enter the Skyrite Mountains. We will build up our strength!”

The Elders below were all stunned.

They had thought that the clan leaders would let them discuss this matter and vote on it, but who would have thought that this came as a simple declaration?

“Patriarch!”

“Matriarch!”

Instantly, quite a few Elders grew frantic.

“Patriarch!” A rushed voice rang out, and a youth with silver hair and a callous-looking face raised his head towards the four clan leaders. He frantically said, “Are we supposed to just surrender, just like that? Just admit defeat?”

Linley glanced at this silver-haired, callous-looking youth. It was the ‘Genius Elder’ of the Azure Dragon clan, Elder Blue.

“You can consider it as us admitting defeat!” Gislason no longer had the imposing, majestic aura that he previously always had.

“Blue.” The Vermillion Bird Matriarch looked down at him. “Even if we continue to fight, how much longer will the forces of our Four Divine Beasts clan be able to hold out for? Can it be that you want the remaining, final fifty three Elders of the clan to also be lost?”

Blue’s gaze was unyielding.

“Four clan leaders!” Blue raised his head slightly. “I, Blue, have submitted and surrendered to others, but that was because I was too weak. Ever since I became a Seven Star Fiend, I have never surrendered to anyone. The eight great clans are worthless! When our Four Divine Beasts clan was in the height of our power, they didn’t dare to oppose us in the slightest. But now? Hmph. Have me, Blue, surrender to them? Never!”

“Blue!” Gislason felt heartsick.

In their hearts, they not only hated the eight great clans, they also looked down on them. For them to surrender…they naturally didn’t wish to, given their pride. But Gislason and the other three were acting in the best interests of the clan.

“Patriarch, I understand that this is a hard decision for you. But I am just a single person. I am willing to go out and do battle…and to die on the field of war! After I die, the Infernal Realm will no longer have the Seven Star Fiend Blue, only the ordinary Highgod Blue. By that time, even if I want to do battle, I wouldn’t have the ability to.” Blue laughed softly as he spoke.

Linley, hearing this, couldn’t help but tremble.

At this moment, a black-haired Elder stood out and said in a somber voice, “Patriarch, for our clan to flourish again, what we need is a supreme expert like Beirut or Dunnington. I know that I have no more hopes for improving…I hope that you will let me go die in battle, Patriarch! Even if we lose, I refuse to let those eight great clans get off lightly.”

“Patriarch, in my life, I’ve given many things a try, but lowering my head? Never! Not even in death!” Yet another Elder stood up.

“Matriarch…”

Linley watched this scene quietly. Although to ordinary people, these Elders might appear to be too rigid and inflexible, Linley understood…these Elders had lived for countless hundreds of millions of years.

They weren’t afraid to sacrifice themselves, but they cared deeply about certain beliefs and values which they held.

Fifty three Elders. Amongst them, there were more than twenty who were willing to sacrifice their most powerful divine clones, just for the sake of making the enemies suffer. The other Elders were silent, but Linley knew that so long as the clan leaders gave the order, they wouldn’t hesitate in the slightest.

“Linley!” Suddenly, a voice rang out.

Linley was stunned.

The Grand Elder was looking at him, her eyes filled with panic. “Linley, you are on very close terms with the Lord Prefect. Can’t you just…discard your pride and go beg the Lord Prefect for him to help us? Given the Lord Prefect’s power, he is more than strong enough to force the eight great clans away. Linley, go beg him…for the sake of the clan, go beg him, just this once!”

Quite a few Elders immediately looked towards Linley.

Just now, these Elders had been in a state of despair, and many of them had been willing to throw away their most powerful divine clones in an attempt at vengeance. Even if their clan was submitting, they would make the eight great clans suffer. But hearing the words of the Grand Elder…

It seemed as though they had one last straw to clutch at for survival!

“I…” Linley didn’t know how to respond.

“Little Sis.” Gislason, seated at the front of the hall, let out a deep shout. “Having Linley do this would just make the Lord Prefect feel awkward. The Lord Prefect has already done many things for our Four Divine Beasts clan, and he has never asked for anything in return. You actually want the Lord Prefect to intervene yet again? Can it be that you think the Lord Prefect has an obligation to help us?”

The Grand Elder couldn’t help but fall silent.

“We’re able to preserve the clan, and it won’t be destroyed. We should know when to be content with what we have.” Gislason let out a sigh.

The Elders below all fell silent.

“Elders, I am unable to forcibly prevent any of you from deciding whether or not you wish to go do battle with the enemy. I just want to say…let the clan preserve a bit of power.” Gislason rose after speaking, then looked towards Linley. “Linley, no matter what, don’t go beg the Lord Prefect.”

Linley couldn’t help but raise his head and look towards Gislason.

“I know what sort of temper the Lord Prefect has. If we go too far and anger him by our actions…he doesn’t even need to personally do anything. All he needs to do is to stop caring about our Four Divine Beasts clan and allow those eight great clans to freely attack us. That…would be disastrous!”

Quite a few Elders seated below, upon hearing those words, felt their hearts tremble.

Whether or not to surrender and submit, that was a question of the clan’s honor and glory.

But angering the Lord Prefect…that was a question of the clan’s survival. If the entire Four Divine Beasts clan was eradicated, there would no longer even be a question of honor or glory.

Ever since that decision was made, the Four Divine Beasts clan no longer openly battled against the eight great clans. Even though the forces of the eight great clans continued on their predetermined patrol routes and acted provocatively, they were ignored.

The clan only needed to preserve its strength.

But although this was the order of the clan, there were still quite a few Elders who weren’t willing to accept it. They chose to go out to fight, causing the battles with the eight great clans to rise to a new crescendo…and the eight great clans, seeing that the Four Divine Beasts clansmen dared to act so brashly, couldn’t help but feel enraged and send even more people out.

A wild, savage, brutal war!

The most eye-catching of them all was the Genius Elder, Blue. Elder Blue travelled by himself, and he actually managed to kill eight enemy Elders. Afterwards, the eight great clans were enraged, and they actually sent out one of their Patriarchs, along with multiple experts.

In that battle…

Elder Blue’s most powerful divine clone…died!

Elder Blue, in those ten short years, accomplished the feat of killing nine enemy Elders.

But of course, although some did well, others did poorly. Other Elders went out to do battle as well, but some Elders weren’t able to kill anyone at all, as they were set upon by many others or were killed by enemies using Sovereign’s Might.

This sort of wild slaughter persisted for thirty years.

Twenty two Elders lost their most powerful divine clones in battle! As for the eight great clans, their losses were even greater. Thirty eight of the Elders perished. After all, the Four Divine Beasts clansmen were fighting with the intention of killing as many as they could in exchange for their own lives.

But after that, the Four Divine Beasts clan went silent, no longer seeking out battle.

For a short period of time, this actually threw the eight great clans into a period of wild speculation. After all, in thirty short years, they had lost thirty eight Elders, causing some shock to the eight great clans…after all, the Elders of their clans were the elites of their clans as well.

They, too, felt heartache at the losses!

The Skyrite Mountains returned to calmness. The roving patrols continued their patrols, but normally, very few people would come to the Skyrite Mountains. But today, a female youth flew out from a metallic lifeform.

Afterwards, that metallic lifeform flew away, while that young lady drew closer and closer to the Skyrite Mountains.

“These are the Skyrite Mountains. Outsiders are forbidden entry.” Immediately, more than ten patrolling warriors flew over from above, and one of them shouted at her.

This young lady had her hair tied into a ponytail, and she appeared very attractive. The strange thing was, she was wearing a straw hat on her head. The young lady hurriedly replied, “Hello. I am the friend of your Elder Linley. I’ve come to find him!”

“Elder Linley?” The patrolling warriors were all puzzled.

“Do you have any proof?” A patrolling warrior asked.

“Uh…” The young lady hesitated. What proof could she provide? But then, she immediately said, “How about this. Just go tell Elder Linley that my name is Nisse. He’ll know who I am.”

“Nisse?” The leader of the patrolling warriors glanced at her, then nodded. “Wait here.” After speaking, he flew away.

    1. This is interesting, they all want to maintain their pride and die in battle, but at the same time they were hoping Linley would throw away his pride to beg Beirut? Hahaha this damnable 4DBC, *sigh*

Glad Ninny made it there safe… I hope… many things could have happened on her journey, for all we know that isn’t Ninny at all or she can be controlled by someone else, of course if Beirut were to hear about it, I guess the perpetrator would be in for a world of hurt.

      1. I don’t think Beirut would really do anything, if someone killed Nisse. He might try to prevent her being killed, but as we’ve seen.. He doesn’t really directly act, unless Bebe’s life is on the line.

Even if Linley begged Beirut, he would see right through it and know that the Grand Elder or one of the other people got him to do it. All that it would do is lower his opinion of the 4DBCs further.
The Forhan incident probably already left a terrible impression on him, especially the Grand Elder begging him to save the clansmen or them with the same mouth that she used to denounce him for accusing Forhan.

If it wasn’t for the clan being vaguely connected to Linley who’s connected to Bebe then, he’d probably have just let the Eight Clans massacre the place a long time ago.
And honestly.. It’s not even a bad deal at all. It’s the Elders with the bs pride who make such a big deal out of it and want more from him. He prevents a full-out attack on the Skyrite Mountains.
All they have to do is train until someone becomes a Paragon or a Sovereign or whatever else.
In the meanwhile, all they have to do when they’re outside the “HQ” is hide their identities.

The fundamental problem here is that they want Beirut to become their supporter, when his current role is enforcing peace to some extent. It’s their idea to dance around outside the mountains and provoke the Eight Clans with patrols or whatever.

The main reason that *I* don’t like the 4DBCs is since they’re pretty firmly in the wrong. The whole war was caused by them being jackasses to the Eight Clans back when they were influential, I’ve seen enough of these novels to have a fairly firm grasp of what “pride” and “suppression” means to clans like this and it usually means spitting on the other clans like they’re pieces of trash.

If Linley didn’t have a vague connection to them then, they would probably just be a group of minor villains who vanish within a few chapters or so. And they still haven’t learnt their lesson other than having no Elders left due to them all throwing themselves at the enemy.

        1. Technically Bebe’s life would be on the line if someone manipulated Nisse. If you saw how Linley was when he got grief struck by Delia’s potential death, you can imagine how Bebe will react. Once Beirut finds this out, the eight clans will be decimated till they do not exist any more in the infernal plane.

That is how heavily he dotes on Bebe. Because if he were to fall into despair after just meeting Nisse again, Bebe would lose all motivation to progress his training, progress his life. He will just fall into darkness which will also pull Linley into the darkness since they share such a tight bond.

        2. @Truth: Yeah, the hypocrisy in their actions isn’t easy on the eyes, but IET has already stressed the millions of years of pride and supremacy they have experienced. Torn between glory and survival, they can’t completely be condemned for their back-and-forth, prideful-yet-shameless behavior. True, I don’t really like the Grand Elder–she gets on my nerves–but you can’t blame the Elders for being filled with hope at the thought of Beirut’s help.

@Azarael: Several holes in your logic. “If it wasn’t for the clan being vaguely connected to Linley who’s connected to Bebe then, he’d probably have just let the Eight Clans massacre the place a long time ago.” Nope nope nope. The 4DB clan escaped to the infernal realm roughly 11,000 years ago. Linley wasn’t even born… Beirut didn’t protect the 4DB clan in the Skyrite Mountains because of Linley, but because he probably has a connection with the original 4 Divine Beast Sovereigns.

“The fundamental problem here is that they want Beirut to become their supporter.” Also, you’re calling it a fundamental problem, but it’s not really a “fundamental problem.” You can’t blame desperate clan members from wanting more from only person who can realistically help them. Yes, selfish and rude; but it’s not unreasonable. It’s just human nature–especially for those who are on the brink of extinction (at least the Elders).

One more thing, you consider the 4DBCs to be in the wrong, but it’s all assumptions/speculation. Of course, it’s completely possible that they bullied the 8 clans, and I don’t know, perhaps that was actually implied in the story. BUT with the backing of 4 Sovereigns, if a conflict arises with another clan, why not show your might? You don’t negotiate with smaller entities, you eat them up. That’s just how it is. The world in CD is simple–power trumps all. If you’re more powerful, you’re in the right.

    Thanks for the chapter

    1. That would certainly spell out their doom, attacked Linley’s wife and now Bebe’s lover? Haha if Beirut doesn’t do something I’m sure Bebe and Linley will charge into battle together, just like old times lol

It’ll be like when Linley tried to kill the King of Finlay, except it probably won’t end up they same way lol

      1. That’s what im also predicting lol. It’d take way too long for Linley to reach the strength to destroy the 8 clans by himself so Nisse death= Bebe’s wraith= Beirut+ the 4 clans destroying the 8 clans.

      1. They have a whole clan that is proficient in the soul, if they don’t have at least one person of that caliber, they’re pretty pathetic

I mean, she’s just a god with no special weapons or abilities, should be pretty easy for an expert to eat her memories

          1. A normal God on their own in a metallic lifeform heading towards the Skyrite Mountains? Wouldn’t that be suspicious..?

          2. Obviously she’s with other people, when does it stated that she rides the metallic lifeform alone?

a more plausible theory is she accidentally ask the 8 great clans where Linley lives, and then got captured

          3. Obviously with other people? A fiend mission that convieniently goes to the Skyrite Mountains?

          4. “Afterwards, that metallic lifeform flew away, while that young lady drew closer and closer to the Skyrite Mountains.”

She is with others, she could hitch a ride on other god metallic lifeform

The 8 great clans be like “Oh she is Nisse, she is Bebe’s Lover, and Bebe is Linley’s brother let’s capture her, and use her to kill Linley”
Obviously not, there are like thousand of Gods traveling in Skyrite Mountains, and they convieniently capture her? what’s wrong with God traveling alone?

        1. Dont forget, even when the 2 sides know where each other are, it can take them a year to meet up to fight.
They not going to notice or care about some random God

Thats why Linleys second ambush worked, theres most likely millions of Gods traveling, or random bandits all over the area around mountains.

  2. Thanks for the chapter.

Ugh, elders saying they have no hope for improving. I’m surprised said elders are at that level then, since the moment you see yourself limited, you always be weak.

Rather, why are the battles so simple? It just we send people to be ambushed or you send people out to be ambushed…
If they upgraded it so it a bit more tactic like Linley’s tactics, then the’ll score more victories.
For example, when the 8 Clans went crazy and started to used more SM and more elder group, why didn’t the 4 Divine Beast clan respond in same, using equal amount of SM and having a squad of completely 7 star fiends?

    1. I am surprised Linley did not tell them ‘Wait 10 000 more years, then come fight them with me, instead of dying now for no reason at all.’ ~~

      1. another reason why clan is idiots.

What wrong with lowering heads now to beat up a person latter. SImilar to Linley agreeing with Desri’s truce.

        1. Actually.. The situation is more like this..
If they hid in the mountains then, the Eight Clans would become more desperate and may attack the mountains directly which would invite Beirut’s Wrath upon them.

If the Four Clans were smart then, they might notice that the Eight Clans are becoming increasingly desperate and may use that to their advantage. Unfortunately, they don’t have any tacticians with any brain cells.

          1. The Eight Clans wouldn’t attack the mountains, if the 4DB clan decided to hid there. Since the 4DB clan would take quite a big hit to their reputation that they have built up through the years. And, also the mountains are under Beruit’s protection.

          2. They think that Linley is on the brink of becoming a Paragon, that’s why they’re so desperate. Beirut is not a Paragon, as far as we know.

Would they rather fight Paragon Linley or Beirut? That’s their choice.
Not to mention, that they’ll try to get it over with quickly in order to destroy the 4DBCs before Beirut shows up.

      2. It’s probably the main reason that there aren’t many Paragons. The people just give up on it and see it as impossible, so they never strive for it.

The main bottleneck to become a 7* Fiend seems to be patience. And then, there’s another main bottleneck of patience to become a Paragon.
Gislason, Blue, Grand Elder, etc. probably had a shot of becoming a Paragon, but they’ve probably decided that it’s impossible and are relying on Beirut rather than watching Scryer Recordings for training, going out to arenas, etc.

    2. The problem is that the Infernal Realm is too big. There isn’t really a concept of a strategic point, etc. and people can only find you if you want them to find you or if there’s a traitor like Forhan running around.
It’s not like the Eight Clans can force people to go through a checkpoint in order to find the members of the Four Clans. Even a Sovereign would have trouble doing that.

That said, all they had to do was send the Grand Elder in a seperate metallic lifeform to reinforce Blue after he gets into combat with one of the enemy Patriarchs. They practically sent him to his death. Poor Blue.

      1. You just said there isn’t a concept of Strategic point, but just pointed out a good strategy….

Well, on one hand, it seem like they didn’t send Blue out, rather he went on his own.

But overall, strong person as bait, then back up would have been a smart tactic. Heck, Linley did a similar thing a while ago.

While Grand Elder by herself would have been obvious, make it seem like it a fiend mission, which typically has gods and a few high gods…

No matter what, I doubt the 8 great clans are going to pay attention to a group of god.

  3. Thanks for the chapter Ren, I Eat Tomatoes, and AM of Illinois!

Now it’s almost time for Bebe to get it on! Makes you wonder what kind of life form Nisse is. The Magical Snake Rat Griffon baby!

    1. They gave up.. After all of the Elders threw themselves at the enemy in a desperate attempt at glory. There’s probably only a few in each clan now.

  4. Considering the Azure Dragon clan is full of water deities, I’m surprised they don’t have a huge collection of scryer recordings to watch for training.

  5. Oh nuts… note too self: Don’t read ahead via. google translate you will never be able to to wait for the real translation 🙁

But damn the next 6 chapters are going to be EPIC!!

  6. Linley should have went off in that meeting.. I mean, the dumbshit Elders are willing to let their strongest clones die for ‘pride’? well damn, they may as well have taken all their clones with them.

Instead of being in a position were they could protect the clan in case of an emergency, now they are among those that need protecting. Blue and the others are all upright hardasses, but would they risk all their clones for their so-called ‘face’? No! lol, Blue tried to pull a quick one by saying “7 Star Fiend Blue won’t lower his head even in death” he should have left an annotation saying “but Blue wont risk his life because.. you know… he’s stared of real death”

I understand why Linley wasn’t assertive in this meeting, but Linley should had been like… “I was born 2,000 years ago, I had no backing when I was born and none when I finally entered the Infernal Realm. You guys want to live 10,000 years ago but that time is history! to live on the Clan must adapt to whatever situation we find ourselves in” (and then go on to explain all the situations he had to adapt in instead of dying).

    1. Honestly, I DONT understand why he wasn’t assertive.
He really should just said: “I was born 2,000 years ago, I had no backing when I was born and none when I finally entered the Infernal Realm…. and IM FKING STRONGER THAN ALMOST EVERYONE IN THIS MUTHAF’N ROOM. So why don’t you lazy, prideful sacks of shit just give me a few thousand years and THEN we can kill all of them together?”

      1. They go on about the strict clan hierarchy, but everyone gives the middlefinger to Gislason’s Plan and do their thing anyway. And the leaders just let it happen.
The only time when the hierarchy really came into play was for the sole purpose of setting up the Forhan Arc and ever since then.. It’s been Linley’s subserviance to the clan or whatever.

That speech you just wrote might work, if it was any clan other than the 4DBCs.
Unfortunately, they don’t have enough brain cells to comprehend it and are obsessed with their “pride” which involves never showing signs of weakness to the Eight Clans.

I have to say that Gislason might be one of the worst leaders who has appeared.
He was oblivious to Forhan’s plotting, he was oblivious to Linley being *that* Linley at first despite plenty of people having seen his transformation, his always letting elders embarrass the clan infront of important people like Beirut, his been sending elders to their deaths for thousands of years with no tactics whatsoever, and the list goes on.
And now, he can’t even deal with Blue to prevent him committing suicide..?

    2. I know this is so stupid. Honestly I haven’t like the direction the author has been taking this story ever since he left for the infernal planes. I don’t mind the main character struggling but we’ve gone from him reaching Demigod level in under a century to still not reaching a real 7 star rank (fusing at least 4 mysteries) in nearly 2000. I get the idea things get harder as he gets further along but come on isn’t the author overdoing it a bit with these time skips?

Also it just keeps feeling like the MC is getting dragged along into situations he can’t hope to live through but then does because of his and Bebe’s family connections. Overall the tone has just lose a lot of it’s hope and energy and every since reaching his clan it feels like Linely has forgotten everything he learned up to this point.

He didn’t survive this long by being reckless and letting other people push him into battle. His friends didn’t live this long by letting them rush off to their deaths.

What he needed to do was put his foot down and give a simple plan
1.Find some edict of death experts to refine soul pearls from those stones (can’t remember how you spell their name) and use them on the younger generation to boost their soul strength and thus their growth speed.
2.make a school to teach the children from all the clans (not just the ones who personally have teachers) to guide their growth.
      3. Hold a tournament (NOT to the death obviously) to not only give the clan some needed entertainment but to give a perfect opportunity for even the elders to gain insights watching battle after battle.
4.Teach the children to believe in themselves and to keep pushing themselves harder.

If they just did that they’d probably have at least a 4th of each generation reach elder level and in a few thousand years they’d be 200 elders strong again!

It’s a simple plan based off his own life experiences. But he just sits there and lets HALF of the surviving elders make a freaking suicide pact (except they have other clones so they won’t die but you get the point). Linely has just not been acting smart lately and it bothers me. What also bothers me is how utterly useless Dylin and the others are now.

  7. I luv this LN so much I read this nonstop and it took me 7 days to read almost lol. Prob my favorite light novel ive ever read. Thanks to all the donators and ofc RWX for translating! I haven’t checked any of the other works on this site can someone recommend a good one to me plz?

Btw, how is this considered a light novel, a long with a bunch of others ive read. They are all so long lol in no way “light”

  8. i really hope that nisse isnt being controlled by any one. bebe deserves happiness as well.
Dont want a bebe revenge arc. tho if someone was controlling nisse, then their whole clan will be destroyed for sure.

    1. Wait why is that even a thing? Nisse being controlled? Who would bother controlling a normally talented God? I doubt many know of her connections to Bebe anyway.

  9. Why do they not realize that linley is their main hope , not because of beiruit , but because he has SOOOO MUCH POTENTIAL, put your pride away for like .001 % of your lifespan , so he can train and then BRING IT ALL BACK ! Some of these guys have lived millions of years , and he is already stronger than you in less than 1% of that time , don’t even count that he can get much stronger !!!!!

    1. although your point is valid, it can only work if linley himself isn’t being an idiot. If he actually attempted to fuse mysteries before mastering them it would make sense but noooo, for some reason his brain has left him in this book. He is perfectly safe right now in the mountains but still tries to reach highgod instead of fusing the damn mysteries together. He himself said that fusing vitality with the prison would make it much stronger as it would be able to regenerate itself

      1. The problem is that his run out of patience, his failed to fuse it in a few hundred years, thus his given up. What he forgets is that many people will take millions of years just to get to where he is now.

      2. Damnit, not this again. It’s been explained far too many times why Linley is doing this. Once he reaches the Highgod level his power will get a massive spike AND he can still fuse the mysteries.

Do I agree with every choice Linley has made in his training path? No. But he’s making the right decision this time. Plus, once he reaches Highgod level and powers up his soul x1000 with amethysts I think that his fusing speed won’t actually suffer in the slightest, and it may even increase.

        1. Also, do you think Linley can ever gain the necessary insights to start fusing mysteries by holing himself up in the mountains for thousands of years? No. He makes these insights through combat, and once he becomes a Highgod you know what he can now do with a large degree of safety?
          Engage in combat.

          1. The book said that Highgods can’t fuse mysteries as easily as Gods.. I’m guessing it’s far harder or else Beirut, Gislason, and many many more highgods would have become Paragons by now. It’s not just Linley who has excellent natural abilities in certain laws.

Is Linley going to overcome this? Of Course!! – he’s the main character, likely, by the end of the series he will be a Sovereign (or multiple sovereigns if it’s possible). All readers understand that, in the end, he’s going to overcome things other Highgods can’t.

However, in the book as of right now, clearly him rushing to highgod is a mistake compared to staying a God in order to fuse mysteries. He’s only fused 3 mysteries of Earth – if he estimated it would take 10,000 years to fuse another one (if he was fast) as a god, now it would probably take 50,000+ years

Of course, in that mean time he’d be wayyy stronger (though still weaker than the Patriarch), but he’d be making the same basic trade all other highgods had made which was for power ‘now’ in exchange for limited growth in the future.

        2. his fusing speed will definitely suffer. I dont think you understand that all those asuras and commanders have ridiculous wealth so they can easily buy millions of golden soul pearls and reach the peak of highgods in soul category. If they still cannot fuse the last mystery what does that tell you? it tells you that it is near impossible to do it. The reason it is easier to fuse mysteries when you are a god is because you have not mastered all the mysteries and you can start fusing them when you gain the basic insight on one of the. you cant do that once you reach highgod because remember that analogy that linley made about the fast and slow mysteries. fast and slow start out in opposite direction from each other and stay that way. Velocity on the other hand is such that although it starts out in 2 different direction, midway through, it starts converging back towards each other-the fast and slow mysteries that is. So his speed will definitely suffer and no it wont increase. It will increase compared to now because he has already mastered 5 and is almost done mastering 6 but it wont increase relative to before he started mastering the 5th and 6th mysteries

      3. You forget the mighty MC powers, i’m sure even if he reaches highgod then he could probably fuse them anyways . Completely agree with linley being stupid , I just wish he would think for 1 second and point this out to his dumbass clan

        1. Unfortunately the author seems to have gotten a tad lazy at this point and has lowered Linely’s intelligence that he showed when over coming the Radiant church so that he won’t overcome the 8 great clans.

For a while now the story has had a bit of a hopeless feeling to it like Linely just can’t win and so the 8 clans are just going to win and he’s going to move on. I wouldn’t mind this so much if it was done properly but it seems like the author still wants Linely to be a badass but also got bored of having Linely handle everything given enough time. So instead he’s having Linely make bad choices he wouldn’t normally make.

  10. Well, all the dumb and impatient elders have been weeded out, that just opens the path of promotion for Linley *evil smile*

And yay! Nisse made it! Bebe is gonna be so happy :3
Bebe is my favorite character so I’m glad~
Also, Wharton is my second favorite character, because I’ll always remember him as chubby lil’ Wharton from the beginning of the novel. When it showed Wade as a toddler I was reminded of chubby lil’ Wharton, it made me smile.

  11. incomplete sentence?

“Having Linley would just make the Lord Prefect feel awkward”

You probably meant “Having Linley do so would just make the Lord Prefect feel awkward”

  12. I swear linleys clan is so retarded, I don’t give a shit if they all died (except linley and company ofc). They call the other clans arrogant for getting revenge after their sovereigns died, what about them being arrogant bitches for countless years in so many planes when they had 4 sovereigns backing them!
