Book 11, Necropolis of the Gods – Chapter 20: The Magical Beasts in Action

The thick, dense grass had completely surrounded Linley in an airtight seal, and the surrounding grass and leaves were gurgling. The grass tendrils were wildly squeezing down, and in the blink of an eye, the pressure was so great that Linley’s face began to change color.

“The strength of this pressure alone would instantly crush most Saints into meat pulp.” Linley said to himself.

“This plant life form is dozens of times more formidable than the plant life form on the second floor!” Linley didn’t dare to waste any time.

“Break!” Bloodviolet in his hands flashed…

Wherever Bloodviolet passed by, spacetime froze and then folded over itself, and a spatial blade appeared at the blade of the weapon. Although the grass tendrils were tens of times more durable than the vines of the plant life form of the second floor, in front of Bloodviolet, they were still chopped open as easily as pieces of cloth.

“Bang!”

The shattered pieces of grass and tendrils exploded everywhere, and Linley shot out of the prison of dense grass like an arrow.

“Boss, I’m fine!” A tunnel suddenly appeared in another distant ball of grass, and then Bebe, his entire body covered with black light, flew out at high speed.

“Bebe, what technique is this?” Linley felt joy in his heart.

“I’m a Deity-level magical beast, the ‘Godeater Rat’.” Bebe raised his little head proudly, but then Bebe noticed the scene not too far away…a large amount of grass had formed a massive ball, clearly surrounding a person, and within that massive ball of grass, a faint hint of white light could be seen.

“Boss, Desri’s not looking so good.” Bebe instantly recognized that it was Desri who was radiating that white light.

Linley had noticed as well. Without hesitating at all, he immediately flew over there while sending out his spiritual energy to scout the situation inside. He clearly saw that inside…Desri’s body was covered with a faintly glowing armor of light that was protecting his entire body, while many white arrows of light were attacking the grass surrounding him wildly.

Unfortunately, the grass tendrils were simply too durable.

“Swish!” Bloodviolet flew out and multiple rays of violet light flashed past the grass, chopping them apart.

Desri escaped from his prison. Upon seeing it was Linley, he immediately said, “Thanks. That grass monster really was tough. Even my instacast spells of the ninth rank weren’t able to break through it. Without your help, it really would have been problematic.”

A red light suddenly flashed by, and grass flew everywhere. Tulily, wielding that divine artifact, the blood red scimitar, flew out and into the skies. With this scimitar, Tulily was like a tiger who had been given wings. Tulily even roared angrily, “Who is it? Don’t skulk around. If you have any ability, come and fight us openly.”

“Bang!” Yet another ball of grass exploded, and Rutherford, his entire body covered with blue light, escaped from his imprisonment as well.

One expert after another escaped.

However, at present, Olivier’s situation was quite dire.

Just now, surrounded and crushed by those countless tendrils of grass, Olivier didn’t have the chance to react at all. And he suddenly discovered…

All of the blades of grass crushing him suddenly began to grind against him at high speed. These grass tendrils all had extremely sharp edges, and this constant high speed grinding…made these grass tendrils constantly slice against his body like sharp fangs, or a sawtooth which a farmer might use to plow the earth.

In the blink of an eye, Olivier’s body was sliced open.

“Hrmph.” Olivier’s eyes turned cold.

“Swish!” A brilliant light flashed, and shattered bits of grass flew everywhere.

His long, flowing hair colored both black and white, and with that black icy sword in his hands, Olivier flew into the air. Only, Olivier’s body had a hint of blood on it. Olivier was secretly shocked. “What a fierce saw.”

The thirteen experts floated there in mid-air. Desri looked around him, then let out a sigh of relief. “Fortunately, no one died.”

Olivier glanced at a nearby Saint. This human Saint’s waist already had a huge wound around the waist. “Karossa [Ka’luo’sa], that really was quite dangerous. You almost lost your life.” That man named Karossa let out an exhausted breath as well. “Very nearly. That creature’s ‘teeth’ were simply too fierce. If I had been slightly slower in reacting, those grass tendrils probably would have plunged into my body.”

“Plunged into your body?” Linley and Fain, upon hearing this, couldn’t help but feel shocked.

If the grass tendrils were to enter one’s body, most likely they would ravage the internal organs almost instantly.

“Don’t move.” Desri flew to one of the human experts, executing healing magic on him.

This Karossa was one of the three experts in the second group.

The three experts in that second group consisted of two humans, Karossa and Olivier, and one magical beast, a Blackscale Scorpion King. Blackscale Scorpions were generally beasts of the ninth rank, but this Blackscale Scorpion King had trained to the peak Saint level, which was quite incredible and rare.

“I hate encountering these plant life forms.” Linley lowered his head, studying the area around him.

The area below was covered in sand. The previous ‘oasis’ had already completely disappeared, leaving behind only some tendrils of shattered grass. Linley had earlier witnessed with his own eyes those undamaged tendrils of grass sink down into the sand and disappear.

“Let’s go.” Desri said. “If that plant creature doesn’t bother us again, let’s not waste the time to deal with it either. The most important thing right now is to find the entrance to the eighth floor.”

“Let’s go.” Linley and the others all nodded.

The thirteen experts didn’t pay any more attention to that plant creature, quickly flying away and beginning their search in the boundless desert.

“Yet another oasis up ahead.” Fain frowned and shouted loudly.

Linley took a close look. Indeed, in the distance, there was a hazy hint of green. Upon flying a bit closer to it, everyone could clearly see that it was indeed a massive oasis. After the previous experience, however, nobody would be incautious again.

“Let’s not get too close.” Rosarie shook her head. “Let’s stay farther away from it. That monster is very hard to deal with.”

Everyone agreed, and the group intentionally made their way around the oasis. But after Linley’s group flew away in another direction, that green oasis actually sank down into the sand, while the sand itself began to tremble slightly.

The direction the vibrations in the sand were heading (at high speed) was, quite coincidentally, the direction in which Linley’s group were flying.

“Hrm?” The Blackscale Scorpion King, at the very back of the line, glanced downwards and then immediately shouted in warning, “Everyone, be careful. That monster is currently hurrying towards us at high speed from below the sand.”

In the Mountain Range of Magical Beasts, magical beasts would often launch ambushes from below. As a Saint-level magical beast, the Blackscale Scorpion was quite familiar with this type of attack.

“That really does seem to be the case.” Linley, Fain, Tulily, and the others all halted in mid-air, staring below.

If one looked carefully, one would be able to see…that on the surface of the sand, there were one or two barely noticeable tendrils of grass. This sort of plant creature could use all of the grass as its ‘eyes’. Wherever the grass could see, it could see as well.

“What should we do?” Linley, Desri, and the others looked at each other.

To kill this plant creature was very troublesome, but how could they just allow it to follow in such a sinister manner?

“Swoosh!” “Swoosh!”

Like two sharp arrows, two long tendrils of green grass suddenly shot out from beneath the sand, wrapping themselves around Desri’s legs in almost the same instant. These two tendrils of grass were as thick as a man’s arm, and there were a large number of smaller blades of grass on top of them as well.

In an instant, they surrounded Desri.

“Swish!”

They suddenly pulled downwards, hard. The two tendrils of grass had shot out at simply too fast a pace. Shooting out, wrapping around, pulling down. In the blink of an eye, Desri was pulled down. Desri let out a furious roar, while at the same time, sending a wild Mindstorm towards the below area.

“Not good.” The faces of Linley and the others changed, and they immediately chased downwards as well.

“Thud…” Desri was pulled directly into the sand, and in the blink of an eye, he disappeared from everyone’s field of vision. The surface of the sand looked so ordinary, as though nothing had happened.

“Go down!” Bebe shouted loudly.

Bebe, the three Six-Eyed Golden Ni-Lions, the Blackscale Scorpion didn’t hesitate at all. The five magical beasts shrank in size rapidly while charging down into the desert. It was very troublesome to dig when one was physically large. Compared to magical beasts, human experts definitely weren’t as fast when they tunneled through the ground.

Fain, Rosarie, Tulily, and the rest of the seven waited there in mid-air, not knowing what to do.

“Right now, we can only place our hopes on Bebe and the others. Hopefully, they’ll be able to rescue Desri.” Linley himself wasn’t able to do anything.

If he entered the sand, first of all, his digging speed would be lowered by half, and he simply wouldn’t be able to chase down the plant creature.

“That grass monster’s tendrils are simply too fast. They move like an expert wielding a sword.” Tulily was frowning. “In a flash, they wrapped around Desri’s legs. In addition, just then, Desri utilized a spiritual attack, but it seemed to not have any effect.”

“It’s impossible for it to have any effect.” Linley shook his head. “That monster’s body was as large as the oasis itself, ten square kilometers. Just now, only its tendrils were revealed. Its main body is most likely many kilometers away from us. Desri wasn’t certain where the monster’s body was. For him to just wildly cast his spiritual energy without knowing where to aim…it would be impressive if he was able to harm it at all.”

Olivier let out a cold sneer. “That Desri was looking to be killed.”

“Why would you say such a thing?” Fain and the others looked unhappily at Olivier.

Olivier glanced at them, then said calmly, “The Necropolis of the Gods has countless creatures here, and the techniques one would use against humans aren’t necessarily suitable. This Desri is just a Grand Magus Saint. When faced with a sudden attack, at most he would be able to instacast a spell. But how powerful could the spells he is capable of instacasting be? Against these sorts of monsters, those spells don’t pose a threat at all. And yet, he still came to the Necropolis of the Gods. Isn’t that looking to be killed?”

“What sort of talk is this?” Rosarie was somewhat unhappy.

“Grand Magus Saints are poor at close combat, but upon reaching the Deity-level and upon gaining their divine body, they will naturally have their deficiencies in close combat addressed.” Fain said.

But Linley actually felt that Olivier’s words made some sense. Grand Magus Saints were indeed weak when facing sudden attacks.

“So?” Olivier said calmly, “After becoming a Deity, one will indeed be transformed and gain a divine body! Divine bodies are extremely powerful and suited for close combat.”

Olivier laughed mockingly, “But then, why wait until becoming a Deity? Can’t a Grand Magus Saint, upon reaching the Saint-level, spend a little bit of time and effort on his close combat skills. To the likes of Desri, a few hundred years is nothing much.”

“To have a Grand Magus Saint become a Warrior Saint as well? Do you think it’s as easy as that?” Fain frowned as he spoke.

“Enough.” Linley said. “Enough talk. Everyone has their own opinions.”

Linley’s face suddenly had a look of delight on it. “Excellent, that creature has been dragged out.”

“Dragged out?” Everyone was surprised and delighted, immediately looking downwards.

The sand below began to rumble, and then rose up. Finally, with a ‘boom’ sound, sand exploded everywhere, and the first one to fly out was Desri. Desri’s body was covered with bloodstains, and his face was rather pale. Upon seeing Linley and the others, he still let out a chuckle. “That was really dangerous.”

“Boss, we’re coming.” Bebe’s voice rang out.

And then, Bebe also emerged from the sands, while in Bebe’s claws there was a thick tendril of grass, the thickness of a man’s arm. Using the thick tendril of grass, he actually dragged out the monster from below, and an enormous creature appeared in front of everyone.

This was a creature at least ten stories high, and its entire body was covered by thick, earthen yellow tendrils of grass roots, at least the size of a house.

The grass roots surrounding the monster’s body were only a hundred meters long at most. Clearly, all of the longer grass tendrils had already been broken off. Bebe dragged the monster up, while below came the three Six-Eyed Golden Ni-Lions and the Blackscale Scorpion.

“This fellow still wants to flee? Jeeze…” Bebe, holding that tendril in his hands, easily spun the massive creature a few times in mid-air, as though it were a giant windmill. “Boss, I thought it would be very powerful, but I didn’t expect it to be as soft as a persimmon. Boss, how do you want to deal with this monster? Your call.”

The Blackscale Scorpion flew over as well. “This fellow really was nothing special. It only knew those two or three attacks. When we drew near it, it was finished.”

    1. Olivier is such an ass, but if he want to be disliked by Prime Saints by blurting all his annoying thoughts then its his problem 😛

I guess when Baruch Empire build a Magic Academy, they will follow Linley’s training regime… Train the body as warrior as much as cultivating mageforce XD

    1. that bastard Oliver’s lecturing five prime saints now! who does he think he is!!! a chap ago he couldn’t even save his piuny life without linley!! what an asshole! I knew he’s no good! IET should kill him off now, I have a hunch that he’ll be a disaster to linley sooner or later!!!

        1. yeah and he’s just a warrior! what right does he have to say such things! when even linley’s keeping his mouth shut!!!
PS. I hope he won’t get any artifacts or sparks at all!!!

        2. He is not Grand Magi, yet. He is only close to breaking through. I hope he will get to Grand Magi level before 10 full years pass. Maybe on 10’th floor, and that will give him confidence to go into 11’th?

          1. who cares if he is or not grand magus saint! he’s the ‘only character’ who is most successful on both sides so far!!!

I’m sure he’all be a magus saint when he leaves NOG after 10yrs! but at 11th floor….. I doubt that! they hardly ever have time on training when they have save each others asses from plant monsters and such! how could he gain an insight with all this ruckus!

          2. He does not need to directly train to break through when he is at ‘breaking point’ 😉 And maybe they will even have year or so at 10’th floor to prepare 🙂

          3. ok, thanks for the correction, ABOUT to become Saint level combatant on both class…

Wait Caladbolg, are you revealing a spoiler right now?

          4. Last time he got to breakthrough Saint-Warrior barrier, he was in life and death battle with Lyndin…
I hope in one of floor boss battle, Linley will become a Grand Magus 🙂

          5. we just make speculations here, no spoilers! right???

even if he did gain some insight he need some time to practice it,like meditating or something!!!

          6. when Linley become a Grand Magus, will his forbidden spells also contain his insights in the laws of wind and earth?
this question just starts to bug me…

          7. Kaiser, i could not spoil you even if i wanted to, as i do not read spoilers and i do not read ahead. Most people here should be aware that all my text’s are speculations of what i think might happen 🙂

PS: It was not yet explained how Truths work for Grand Magi. So we can only wait 🙂

          8. @yuzu9
I assure you, i haven’t read CD in chinese or read spoiler materials coz I prefer to enjoy the ride 😉

          9. @kaiser – ince it’s like one at a time for warriors, I think same rule apply to mages too! if so linley’ll perfect earth style first since it’s his favorite!
what I wonder is upon becoming a deity or a god, would mages and warriors have much diffidences??

@dewisa – I once read a spoiler about something on book 10 after that I never thought of reading spoilers ever again!

          10. since it’s like one at a time for warriors, I think magus might have the same rule too! if so linley’ll perfect earth style first, since it’s his favourite!

          11. thanks for not spoiling me Caladbolg, i just imagine/pictured a vibrating/throbbing meteorite falling in the sky that will disregard the enemy’s defense and attack the internal organs…. that’s gonna be a badass…
            ̿ ̿’̿’\̵͇̿̿\з=(•_•)=ε/̵͇̿̿/’̿’̿ ̿

          12. @yuzu9
Linley often got the insight after he battled/sparred with strong opponent. It’s possible that he’ll gain an insight when barely surviving a boss, then meditate for a while before going to the next floor

            @kaisernephilim
wow, large area vibrations attack with barely any chance to avoid? thats badass…

  1. I honestly agree with Oliver, a few centuries to level up your melee skills is nothing if you can’t die from age.

The main problem with becoming a warrior saint is that if you ain’t a great talent, you die before you reach the saint lv, battle qi keep improving as long as you train it correctly.

    1. If it was so simple, all Grand Magi would also just train to be also at Warrior Saint level. Do you think they are so stupid to not try it? Olivier is probably just showing his ignorance and lack of knowledge…

      1. it is a slower way to increase your power, in the same time it takes them to become a warrior saint they could study their laws and become a peak level saint.

As a low tallent warrior saint, their power wouldn’t increase by much, the only benefit is getting rid of a weakness the mostly have other ways of compensating for. Instacast spells and mind attacks are first here, deep into the cemetery of gods, incapable of bridging the weakness of surprise attacks.

So yeah, it’s no wounder why a lot of people wouldn’t do it, content with the short term benefit, and i can see why the peak saint’s don’t do it, hoping to instead bridge the weakness by becoming deities, but a cautious grand magus saint should still do this before going into the cemetary.

also, getting an elemental law in every element, and then focus on their main focus wouldn’t be that a bad idea, first step laws are low powered but they come fairly easy, and if linley are to judge, they can inspire you to make breakthroughs in your main focus (he frequently gets inspiration from laws of other elements)

        1. McKenzie already been a Saint for centuries and his depth understanding was equal to Linley’s first level, Rippling Wind. So it’s not easy at all to train on every elemental laws

Linley just a genius combined with so many lucky encounter….

          1. It was not. Mc’Kenzie did not have Truths understanding at all. All he was doing was controlling elemental essence in attempt to copy Godrealm technique of Demigods. In this way he will never reach Demigod level, his training method is wrong.

And it was not equal to Linley’s Rippling wind, read it again. He got owned by it…

          2. perhaps you are right, i might just be fooled by how easy laws seems to come to Linley… But McKenzie is just a mid tier, he has yet to get even a single law. after understanding your first law and understanding the nature of laws, surely getting a second one should be easier?

but i will grant you that multiple laws might be poor efficiency, and that your power boost isn’t worth it.

but the warrior training isn’t about gaining power, it’s about getting rid of weaknesses

          3. @caladbolg
            I forgot 😛

            @inbetweenaction
Lets compare Haydson then… He was hailed as Genius who trained for centuries but already had power equals to thousand years old Saints. His understanding was on par with at most level 1,5 of Linley’s.
            I considered 256 layers was the level 2 😀

          4. @devisa: i already agreed that unless you had exceptional talent, multiple laws might be to poor efficiency to make it worth it. I was merely fooled by Linleys ease of understanding

        2. Only Linley is such a monster that he gains Truths left and right. Others need hundreds or thoudands of years to do it. Linley is extremly talented. Gaining basic insight into laws of unsuitable element would take thousands of years, and this insight would not amount to much, if any, power up. And training in it would take even more time, and ultimately prove to be pointless. Even Linley with his huge amount of talent cosndiers training in Fire Element, where he has average affinity, waste of time.

For Grand Magi obtaining body of even low-stage Saint Warrior would be a lot. But it’s probably highly unlikely for them to accomplish it even after thousands of years.

          1. The main hurdel to becoming a warrior saint is the worldly insight needed (somthing they already have), and the large amount of battle qi needed

according to linley when he fought the monolith swordsman , qi will keep growing as long as you train it according to the qi training methods (common knowledge in the world).

The qi problem is, this process is to slow for everyone except great talents to manage to accumulate enough during the few centuries they live to breach the saint barrier.

remember, Zassler with his 800 years are a few centuries older than any non saint can be, so it’s not unreasonable to demand that a saint spends a millennia to get a low saint body. they already are prepared to do this to gain even a single low entry law breakthrough. And not unreasonable for them to want to go for increased power and getting better survivability on the continent over covering their main weakness a third time (instacast and mindstorm being their main defence against surprise attacks) with little gain

          2. It is unreasonable. People with lower talent even after training for 200 years can be stuck at 3-4’th rank. Those with intermediate talent can be stuck at 6-7’th rank after 200 years. Linley is of Supreme Warrior Lineage, so he does not need to worry about that. But normal people? How big is possibility for somebody to be able to become both Grand Magi and Saint level Warrior, AND start training both aspects since being 6-7 years old, or even faster? Maybe once per 100 000 years such miracle can happen.

Grand Magi saint even after using 5 000 years might be unable to get to even 7’th rank as a warrior. Cultivating battle qi is not hard, BUT it requies powerful body capable of holding and developing it! Grand magi dont have it, and are most probably unable to develop it to high enough point to be able to get to higher ranks as Warrior.

Geez, you are incorrect, annoying! ~~

    2. But I thought training the body as vessel for battle qi is more difficult later on, thats why Linley trained his body to be a warrior even though he was an exceptional magus.

Probably when they became a Grand Saint Magus, their body basic power was already to late to improve…

      1. while it is true that it’s harder to train your body the older you get, this is merely the same as why a 20 year old athlete has am easier time to maintain a world class physique than an 40 year old one. And if it merely take you longer to train, and your training is less effective, that can be counteracted by having more hours in the day you can train without harming your body, and an infinite lifespan with an unaging body to do it in.

Most mages do not train in the warrior arts because they simply does not have the time.

Think of it as higher education, with the saint level being a doctorate or professor level. Not alot of people are capable of doing both studies to write their thesis on rocket science and brain surgery at the same time.

And this is essentially the level of genius Linley is, equivalent of being a studying to become a brain surgeon (magic) while he wrote a thesis on quantum physics (warrior training) on his spare time.

The sane way of doing it is first getting your doctorate in one field, then going back and doing the other.

Or, you know, being happy about being an elite in their own field, as most saints seem to be content with…

        1. But this is IET world we talking about… there must be some limitations in training methods
Probably when one started training as warrior at 100 year old their progress will be 100 times slower or something. So no Grand Magus even attempt to train their warrior abilities

Olivier could said stuff like that because he is a Saint-Level Warrior. And pretty inconsiderate….

Nobody said anything when he barely contributed in the 6th floor while Grand Magus Saints like Rosarie and Desri who bust their asses off by casting forbidden spell to make a chance for Linley

          1. Yeah, it’s like saying to a Warrior Saint with low or null elemental affinity “Why did you not start training to be a Magus? You have unlimited time, after all ~~”

          2. Well, if learn Magic without affinity is easy, all Saint-Level Warrior at least will learn Healing Spells 😛

          3. @devisa, not true, becoming a warrior is not about gaining strength, it’s about bringing weaknesses.

spending millennia to gain a half assed healing spell is a waste of time, since this doesn’t brige an inherent weakness. you are better of spending the time getting a defence that allows you to run away and getting someone ells to heal you.

          4. @inbetweenaction
and vice versa, it’s a waste of time to cultivate warrior strength for a few centuries just to avoid close combat. It’s easier to subdue some tough magical beasts instead…

          5. @Devisa, i see your point, covering a weakness a fourth time might be poor efficiency. it is, however, the safe play, and on the peak levels, clearly worth it, since neither sainlevel beasts, mindstorm attacks or instacast protects you well in the cemetery.

but not alot of people, even saints, are prepared to put down alot of work for something they will have us of for a few centuries max, in a few millenias time, before making it obsolete as soon as you reach deity…

          6. @inbeetweenaction
Thats if you only think on individual battles like Olivier who always been alone.
Probably Desri and the others already realized their limit early on and then create their own combatant groups, so high level combatants could assists each other when they go to the Necropolis of Gods.

    3. As a water or light caster, they should be able to heal away fatigue, and since saints don’t need to sleep, they can train for 24/7 and not have much adverse effects.

earth casters can do as linley does, and use supergravity to improve his effect of his training.

the only saints that could have any problem what so ever to reach saint level within a milenia are fire, wind and darkness casters, and that is only if they are kind of rubbish at their warrior training, since no saint in existence should have any trouble getting first rate trainers and techniques to help them train.

      1. You are all too ignorant. There must be some kind of limitation, or Grand Magi saints would be superior to Warrior Saints in every aspect. IET wouldn’t make it to be so stupid 😉 At least i hope so, hueh.

        1. Yup, if it was easy, then all Grand Magus will be able to fight as a 9th rank warrior in a few decades, while Saint-level warriors barely able to cast any spell

          1. not decades, more like centuries. most people die from old age before reaching saint rank, even with the later levels increased lifespan.

          2. @devisa, so did i, i sincerely believe that the biggest obstacle to becoming a warrior saint is dying from old age before reaching it

          3. yeah striving to be saint-level warrior is pretty hard… at least Light, Water and Necromantic magic users will get extended life span.

      2. @ inbetweenaction – hey genius, healing spell can only heal injuries it can’t replenish mageforce or spiritual energy! or grandpa dohering would be here now!!!

          1. I meant that if one can heal spiritual energy then he ‘could be’ healed and grandpa would be in that ring now! and since ‘no one’ have that kind of ability upon being a saint!
how can they train non-stop!!!!! (I forgot that grandpa’s earthstyle! that, my mistake)

          2. if my memory serves me right, Grandpa Dohering already departed to the Netherworld to be reincarnated again since he exhausted all his spiritual energy, that helps him to maintain his existence in the Yulan Continent, by rescuing Linley….

          3. Nah. Grandpa Dohering’s soul perished from overusing his spiritual energy. Basically dried up his soul to use the spell

          4. Kaiser is right. Dohering was only capable of forcing his soul to not go to Netherworld because of his prowess as Grand Magus and Coiling Dragon Ring. After he used up his energy, his soul went to Netherworld.

        1. It can not increase mage force or spiritual energy, true. But neither is used in a mayor way to train to become a warrior (you simply need abit of spiritual energy to control and train the qi, something a grand magus have in abundance.) and it certainly can remove fatigue, as the few times when Linley have been exposed to light type healing will show.

he wouldn’t be using magic to build a body, he would use it to restore a slightly rundown body to peak condition to restart training. WELL within a saintranks power

          1. @iba – blah blah blah!!! stop it already!!! the point is you’re taking oliver’s side!
don’t you think he’s too much! if being a magus and warrior was so easy bunch of guys would’be done it already!!!
so far only linley could actually do it successfully and he the MC!!!

          2. Just because it seems possible, it doesn’t mean it is. This is IET’s world, and i truly do not think that Grand Magi can train to become Warrior Saints by any normal means.

          3. @Yusu9, yeah, in this i do. i believe that Linley was smart and took advantage of training his body during the time it has the greatest growth potential, and that most people don’t do it because they are short sighted.

@caladbolog: Why? we have never been told anything that makes it sound like they can’t train, only that you get more out of your training the younger you are, just like in real life.

It makes sense for few grand maguses to think that spiritual attacks, instacasting and a decent sainlevel magical beast will suffice, and not bother to further cover their asses with a tedious warrior training (almost no one knows about the true dangers of the cemetery, or even that it exist)

          4. really now, just cuz it wasn’t mentioned clearly before doesn’ t mean you can go make wild guess and prove them right!!
and why do you think only linley became successful! you think other experts are so dumb that they haven’t think of gaining both powers at once???
and please do remember it’s linley we’re talking about here, and he’s the MC! IET obviously gives MC a special space!!

          5. was trying to type that until they tell us otherwise, i will assume logical stuff works.

          6. It’s not bad storytelling. It was not explained yet, and we simply think that it’s somehow restricted. IET is too good of a writer to do mistake on this level.

Also your arguments make no sense. If this somebody already did reach 9’th rank as a warrior while getting to Grand Magi level, such person could easly reach Saint Warrior level. You did not even read properly what we wrote, and yet you argue with us! Sigh.

          7. @caladbolog: The if only Linley can become a dual saint par i demand a good reason that isn’t “because he is mc” was directed to Yuku, whom essentially said that no one but Linley had a shot at becoming both due to him being MC. And that would be bad storytelling, and as you said, something IET indeed is too good a writer to do.

And from what we have been told, anyone can indeed train to become a warrior, only problem being, some training manuals are sealed to commoners unless you are a powerful warrior (most nobels have access to them even earlier, book one) . Qi and mage force gathers in different places, and don’t disturb each other.

I have yet to hear your answer to why they wouldn’t be able to train their body, from what i remember from book 2, they rather have an advantage over most people since their body already is pretty tough, comparable to a warrior of a fairly high level, 6-8 at least. This is far beyond the point where you can train your body stronger, and starts to need battle qi to make it tougher.

          8. You ‘demand’ it? Okay, i will write one final explanation post for you, to not prolong this too much 🙂 Also remember that i am only discussing point, i do not have anything against you yourself, heh 😉

Okay, so the reasons for it being super-rare:
You are mistaken about how power of Warrior works. Remember for example, Clayde? Without his battle-qi, his body was still at level of warrior of seventh rank.

Even if Grand Magi Saint has power of warrior of 5’th rank, his basic power, without being enhanced by various internal energies is still only of 1-2’th rank.

Now, what i mentioned earlier. With no basics you can’t develop your battle-qi above some given point. You can increase your body’s power when you are adult, but not nearly as much.

Now, there are 2 possibilies. IET created world where every Grand Magi Saint is retar*ed and doesn’t use few hundreds years to get his body to Saint level Warrior power.

Second is, that there is some kind of limitation.

Which does not apply to Linley, who is of Dragonblood Warrior Clan and also started training both aspects from very young age with very best methods.

            Well, that’s basically it.

Thanks for nice discussion, i always enjoy them a lot 🙂

  2. Thanks Ren and Donators!

“This plant life form is more than dozens of times as formidable as the plant life form ”
“more than… as…” sounds like it could be condensed into “dozens of times more formidable than the plant life”

  3. “So?” Olivier said calmly, “After becoming a Saint, one will indeed be transformed and gain a divine body! Divine bodies are extremely powerful and suited for close combat.”

I believe it should be, after becoming a diety 😉

    1. Reeen? I am quite sure that one do not gain divine abody after becoming saint, context above and below also is about gaining divine body after becoming Diety… Why are you ignoring my post? I wil cry! *sob* *sob*

  4. “After becoming a Saint, one will indeed be transformed and gain a divine body! Divine bodies are extremely powerful and suited for close combat.”

Did you mean after becoming a Deity?

Also, first time commenting. Hi guys! 😀

  5. i wonder why Oliver has a childish, annoying, nagging voice in my head while reading his tantrums about Desri…

thanks for the chapter Boss Ren… and thanks to Simulacra, dc, and AY for Donating for this chapter…

      1. Blumer…?

Having or not having close people doesn’t matter. People are different, he is just like that. Not everyone needs to be polite and tactful 🙂

        1. but being tactless can cause big problems in the future, that’s why Linley maintains his politeness in front of people around him as long they’re not his enemies…

PS: dewisa already cleared it… hahaha

          1. Seconded…
Linley received a lot of help and affections from his close friends. While it seems Olivier always relied on his strength to get what he wants

  6. You all started arguing about mages being bad in such extremely dangerous environment but in the end they can just subdue a magical beast of the saint level to help them with that, it is widely known that mages rely strongly on their magical beast companions (but of course they aren’t helpless without them). Now in my opinion Linley has this crazy level of insight training speed due to his exceptional affinity to those elements + his method of training /being around the nature, helping him sense the earth /wind element more clearly/ etc . And about mage saints making effort becoming warriors aswell, it seems extremely unappealing – warrior training takes too much time and it too requires multiply breakthroughs 6 –> 7th rank and 9 to saint level. When one single breakthrough on saint level magus insights can increase their power way more efficiently(and ofcourse the option of getting a magical beast companion …)
In the end Oliver was probably right – saint level mages alone aren’t that fit about instant life and death situations , but training as warrior is easier said than done, once you did it it didn’t seem like much but hey! However with a suitable magical beast companion they shouldn’t have much trouble in such places!
And last but not the least thanks for the chapter 🙂

  7. Doesn’t anybody feel that while Linley, Bebe and Barker are all in the Necropolis of the Gods..the Baruch empire along with all their friends and families are being owned by both the Radiant Church and the Cult of Shadows..

    1. hahaha, then Linley, and at least three prime saints Desri, Tulily and Rosarie who owe him a favor will trample them as soon as they get out of the Necropolis XD

edit: I forgot about the Cats and Dylin 😛

    2. The empire isn’t completely empty atm. There are 3 Saint dragons, Haeru the Saint Blackcloud Panther, 4 Undying warriors that can transform into saints, a Dragonblood warrior that can transform into a saint, a Saint Necromancer, and the fear of Linley’s wrath when he returns. So a total of more than 9 Saints protecting the empire even with Linley gone.

      1. and only the 3 dragons are capable of posing a threat to an attacking peak saint. well, i guess Zassler might be able to interrupt a peak warrior saint long enough with a spiritual attack to have him and the other saints have a shot at hurting him…

and they really can’t have Linley hate them much more, he already swore to do end them as soon as he is able. but question is, will it piss of Bebe enough to go ask deities for help?

        1. Assuming Linley doesn’t find a Divine spark in the Necropolis of the Gods…
And I wonder, does the radiant church even know Bebe’s identity?

And don’t forget, the church still has the agreement to never touch Linley’s family (Assuming it’s still in effect anyways)

  8. Thank you for the chapter rennn XD

Btw i see the discussion above about magus with insight and profound truth, if this rule apply linley when reaching saint lv in magus should just summon world protector six times with the help of CD ring. imagine it 6 golem walking about trashing the place to dust with linley profound truth of the earth. Advancing to 10 flor and beyond should be manageable

    1. he probably can’t maintain 6 for very long, he would still be an entry level saint in terms of mageforce. but he should be able to use 1-2 very impressively.

and i am really looking forward to him stacking all the strongest defences on top of each other… (ok, so dragon form is the second strongest defence among the supreme warrior form, but still)

      1. He does not use any power to mantain ‘summons’ from what we seen so far in this novel. Regardless showing that he has some superior divine artifact this easly would be riduculously stupid. Even Gods and High Gods would want to kill him to obtain CD ring… 😉

  9. “So?” Olivier said calmly, “After becoming a Saint, one will indeed be transformed and gain a divine body! Divine bodies are extremely powerful and suited for close combat.”

I am still quite sure that it should be ‘after becoming a diety’

If i am wrong at least tell me, Ren, sigh. I am sad.

        1. Hey, I can’t do anything about autoplay video, but I can send requests re auto-sound. If it’s causing you problems bandwidth wise, go ahead and Adblock 🙁

  10. I think the team needs Desri more than Oliver for healing ability far more than the selfish idiot Oli and as a leader considering this guy lives in centuries his experiences and knowledge about this place. this cowards oliver who doesn’t even contribute in the team who just hide in the boulders had the guts to speak about Desri f*cking shameless saint.
