Chapter 187 – An Endless Plain

Along with the collapse of the Stone Dragon General, the enormous stone gate in which it came from slowly opened. Subsequently, the Primordial Azure Dragon’s pleased voice came from overhead:

“Very good. Young human, you have allowed me to see a shocking result. In these ten thousand years that I’ve stayed on this continent, you are the first person to pass this stage of the trial. During these ten thousand years of wait, I have regretted multiple times about leaving a trace of my soul and strength on this piece of land, because the level of strength within this continent is just too low; it made me gradually realize that the trial I had left behind was something that humans on this continent could never pass… Fortunately, I met you.”

“You have already passed the first stage of the trial. Not only did you pass with a two-fold difficulty level, you also accomplished this while being tied down; you have allowed me to see the greatest of hope. The second stage’s trial ground gate has already opened. After making sufficient preparations, go in the opened stone gate and you will enter the second stage’s trial ground. I wish you good fortune.”

The opened stone gate was the second trial’s gate.

The first stage of the trial was so terrifying that the second and the third stage were bound to be even more challenging… It was unknown as to what degree of brutality awaited.

The Frozen Soul Barrier was still in place because Yun Che had eliminated the Stone Dragon General in a span of fifteen minutes.

“It’s finally alright now.” Yun Che went back to Chu Yuechan’s side and helped her adjust to a more comfortable laying position. He extended his hand, slowly guided his profound energy into her body, and helped her circulate her internal energy and blood.

Chu Yuechan’s half opened eyes blankly stared at him for a long while. Then, she softly asked: “How did you recover from your injuries and regain your strength so fast?”

Yun Che did not want to lie to her, so he replied immediately: “The profound art I cultivate is capable of speeding up the recovery of my injuries and can restore my strength.”

“Can you tell me the name of this profound art?” Chu Yuechan asked softly. At her level, profound arts that piqued her interest were indeed not many. She knew many profound arts that could speed up the recovery of injuries and restore strength like Recovery Arts, Nine Cycle Recovery Arts, the Divine Art of the Fleeting Flowers and Snowy Moon, and so on. But the injuries Yun Che had received were severe. It was extremely clear to her that he had used up too much power, so much that it had been critically overused to the point that it affected his lifespan… Yet it only took six hours to fully recover. Even added together, all the powerful recovery profound arts that she knew of were incapable of displaying such a shocking result.

Yun Che slightly hesitated but still said it out loud: “You probably have never heard of this profound art’s name. It is called the Great Way of the Buddha.”

“Great Way of the Buddha…” Chu Yuechan pondered lightly as her eyes flashed with confusion. She indeed had never heard of this art before.

“A profound strength at the middle of the True Profound Realm… in such a short period of time… slaughtered a thousand opponents of the same level… And even easily executed an enemy whose level far surpassed his own by a whole great realm… Even though your profound strength matches your age and you can only be considered an ordinary genius, your innate talent in using your profound strength… Perhaps even Xia Qingyue… is inferior… Your master must be… a very extraordinary person.”

It was the first time she said that many words, and Chu Yuechan was already out of breath. For her, who treasured words more than gold, to suddenly say so much, also revealed how much Yun Che had shocked her.

“Mn, I have two masters and they’re both very extraordinary.” Yun Che nodded as he smiled: “One of my masters taught me medical arts and how to to be human. The other master taught me all kinds of profound arts. Both of them gave me a new lease in life; without them, the current me would not exist.”

Chu Yuechan closed her eyes and spoke no more. She relaxed and then the feeling of weakness and exhaustion came at the same time. Not long after, she fell fast asleep.

With completely destroyed profound veins and meridians that were almost all broken, it undoubtedly took an enormous amount of perseverance to have remained conscious for so long. And what made Yun Che exceptionally happy, was the fact that he no longer felt the desire to die from her body.

Yun Che did not immediately enter the second stage’s gate. Instead, he calmly watched over Chu Yuechan at her side. Dragon Fault was still in his hands, and had not disappeared along with the Stone Dragon General when it died.

When Chu Yuechan awoke, it was already the morning of the second day. Although her body was still weak after being treated by a night of Yun Che’s profound energy flow and warmth, her complexion had already improved greatly.

“Here, drink some water first.” Yun Che lifted Chu Yuechan’s upper body and allowed her to lean against his chest. After passing the water over her lips, he watched her take small little sips. Perhaps he had never thought that there would come a day in which he would be holding this Little Fairy, who was at summit of the Blue Wind Empire, and helping her drink water in the same way one would carefully feed an infant. Chu Yuechan herself would never have thought of this happening either… And at this moment, even Chu Yuechan herself was not aware that she had not strongly rejected Yun Che’s intimate touch, but instead had a very strange sense of security. But all of this was summed up to be because of her completely crippled body; it was fundamentally impossible for her to take care of herself, and she didn’t even have the ability to resist.

In her current state, Chu Yuechan could only eat plain watery food. Fortunately, Yun Che had purchased a few grains at an inn before entering the Wasteland of Death. He boiled a little pot of porridge using the phoenix flame and then helped her drink it. After all preparations were in order, he lifted Chu Yuechan and headed toward the gate of the trial’s second stage.

After slowly entering the stone gate, his vision became pitch-black. Then, he took two more steps forward and it suddenly lightened up; it was as if it only took two steps to completely step over from one world into another.

What appeared before his eyes was a vast expanse of an endless plain. Grass covered the ground and there were also trees that gave shade; even the faint sound of running water could be heard. There were short hills in the distance that rose and fell. Occasionally, the cries of all kinds of birds and animals could be heard.

This place’s refreshingly delightful atmosphere and smells were also completely different than the previous location’s. Yun Che turned around and still saw the endless plain; there were simply no signs of any mountain walls or stone gates. He immediately understood then, that he did not walk through some stone gate, but rather a transportation formation.

“This is… the next trial ground? It doesn’t seem… to have any hint of danger.” Chu Yuechang said softly.

It was also at this time that the Primordial Azure Dragon’s voice sounded.

“Young human, welcome. This place, is the Dragon God Trial’s second trial ground. This trial ground has no limit, and also has no exit. You can only leave this place after you have successfully completed the trial. Or perhaps you would be buried here before completing the trial.”

“There are an innumerable amount of profound beasts here in this endless plain. The level of the profound beasts here have all been adjusted with your strength as the benchmark. Also, as a result of the two-fold difficulty level you have to bear, every single profound beast here is not lower than the Spirit Profound Realm. As for some of the more powerful profound beasts, their strength far surpasses the Stone Dragon General that you had killed.”

“To these profound beasts, this place is an endless paradise. But to you, this place is extremely dangerous; it is an abyss filled with countless shadows of death. This is because once the profound beasts here sense your aura, they would all immediately unleash an endless barrage of attacks. At the same time, under my soul’s guidance, profound beasts near you would all be led in your direction. You would be hunted at all times by profound beasts and would never be able to sleep soundly or eat in peace.”

Yun Che: “…”

Yun Che did not have any obvious reactions to all of that, but the Primordial Azure Dragon’s following words almost made Yun Che spit out a mouthful of blood.

“And your objective in clearing this second stage of the trial is also very easy. It is to kill ninety-nine thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine profound beasts, within one year!”

    1. And it is “also very easy” hahahahaha
F*ck, that’s like killing 274 Spirit Profound Beasts each day…just…f*ck.
Although he has the possibility of cultivating a little during this year and becoming somewhat stronger, if you disregard neverending attacks by beasts and etc.
There’s probably also Earth Profound Beasts in this place, or perhaps ones that are “half a step” into that level, this is going to be epic.

      I guess we’ll just have a timeskip.

      1. that’s if he took the full year, you have to remember that he has to finish this trial and be back to meet his first wifu at the turnament becuase of ‘plot armor’

so really just 3-4 months i think? so ausuming that there is 30 days in a month, and that there will be some really hard mobs to kill, it’s more likely that he will need to kill over 1500 a day so he has time for the hard boss mobs,,, oh and some time for lvl up’s

        lol that spoiler gif

        1. Luckily Yun Che doesn´t have to kill them all in a direct fight as the “only” condition is for him to kill the beasts.
So fortunately because that troll dragon didn´t take into account that someone knowledgeable about medicine also has knowledge about poison, Yun Che can just poison the water and food supplies of the profound beasts while supplying Chu Yuechan and himself with the antidotes.
Then the beasts should die fast enough with all the poisons he got.

Harharhar… time for Yun Che to counter-troll that dragon spirit.

        2. Oh, right, i forgot that “little thing” haha
I wonder how will he manage to overkill so much (let’s say 1000 per day? Should take little more than 3 months, and there’ll also be the third trial after that).

          1. When he was walking around as poison master in his previous life Yun Che killed a city of 10 mio. people or so in a single night.
Given that he can´t use his secret treasure for that anymore due to overuse in his previous life he can´t reach that amount anymore but still killing 1000-2000 beasts per day with poison shouldn´t be any problem for him.
After all he got Xiao Sect´s Branch Sect´s treasury in his pearl´s inventory so he certainly has enough ingredients for lots of deadly poisons at hand.

        3. I never get this “plot armor” thing
These stories are about people that made it to the top. Instead of looking at it as plot armor, look at it as the author opening a window to the story of one of the countless people that made it to the top, instead of the guy that’s protected by the story.
It’d be pretty boring to watch the story of the hundreds of people that died in the trials wouldn’t you think? or at least a pretty short story and people would then be getting pissed because the main died lol

          1. I agree,it helps a lot with the suspension of disbelief.I’m not sure why I don’t come across this opinion more often,so I had to reply, even if my comment is a bit late

      2. Dude, if he tells this story when he comes back, they’d all die from a heart attack. It’s supposed to be impossible to transcend realms while fighting, much less killing several hundred each day, and some surpassing you as far as 10-13 levels…

Let’s not even mention that profound beasts are supposed to be stronger than practitioners of the same level(was mentioned early in the novel).

  1. Yun Che slightly hesitated but still said it out loud: “You probably have never heard of this profound art’s name. It is called the Great Way of the Buddha.”

hesitated but then decides to tell it for the heck of it. Ever since the necklace got stolen, the pacing gets bad and plot armor becomes the norm.

    1. stormcrowe you’re complaining that he paused…. Just stop reading. If you’re going to complain about something as simple as a minor internal debate…just stop reading.

      1. I didn’t complain that he paused. I complained that he was thinking twice of whether to tell the little fairy of the profound art which goes against the heavens. He still told him though. Why does he trust the little fairy too much!? She nearly even killed him due to an accident and their relationship are just strangers until she told him her name while they are on the trial and she was nearly dying.

Plot development is just getting lamer tho. You’re right, I might drop it since the challenges are getting ridiculous by the chapter.

        1. She almost killed him because he touched her boob. It was a reflex thing. Then she stood by his side and gave him her energy to try to fix it.

          Why would he trust her:

          1) She kept her word and came back to help him after two months, saving his life.
          2) She watched over him in the forest even though it’s a place she was leery of.
          3) She pushed him to safety and fought two peak Sky realm dragons.
          4) When she was dying and crippled she didn’t blame him for what happened to her. He’s good at reading people so he knew she had no malice towards him.

Those are the reasons I can think of off the top of my head. Well, besides her being a hottie.

      1. It’s annoying reading people complaining about “plot armor” when it exists in pretty much every fictional story written ever.

Don’t get me wrong – over the top plot armor can get annoying but that the same for all writing techniques. I’ve read more than a few fantasy novels that abuse the hell out of foreshadowing for instance telegraphing the plot for hundreds of chapters in advance.

But using plot armor doesn’t make writing bad. Using plot armor repetitively and obviously makes writing bad.

  2. Also, as a result of the two-fold difficulty level you have to bear, every single profound beast here is not lower than the Spirit Profound Realm. As for some of the more powerful profound beasts, their strength far surpasses the Stone Dragon General that you had killed.”

this novel is getting ridiculous every chapter.

    1. Right ? I just can’t understand the need to break their own rules.
At every beginning of a Xianxia, they explain to you the ranking system of their universe.
And every f*cking time the MC doesn’t care the slightest about this ranking system.
In CD, it was actually well done and still believable, but god, it really seems ridiculous here. The author set a rules that he doesn’t respect himsef later just so the MC can stand out even more…. How are we supposed to believe and enjoy the story if the rules that he himself set are broken. I can understand that profound skills can give an advantage and that he has god skills etc, but that doesn’t mean that i will be believable for us reader when everywhere the MC goes, every character actually lives by the rules of the ranking system.
The only character who does not, is the MC….

      1. It’s like this. You’re a college student. So naturally you think students at a lower level of education can’t be smarter than you. Basically everyone thinks this. Then along comes someone with genius level IQ and wrecks your entire college class. It’s a rare thing, but still a good analogy. The MC is simply a rare seen genius. Breaking the rules because of his never before seen skills plus he has the experience from a past life of fighting.

  3. 99999 beast after that the 3rd trial is the 100000th beast I well not be surprise if the dragon itself well be the last challenge lol

well looking at the bright side its rather easy challenge for mc
in his past life he was hunted daily so he is already use to it
plus he can eat the beast core and train at the same time
the perfect training ground for mc lol

  4. Uff, at least it’s not 100 000 🙂 But yeah, it’s perfect for training. The dragon will even direct the beasts to attack Yun Che, so he does not have to go look for them. Only problem is the time, he does not have a year.

    Thanks for the chapter ^^.

  5. That trial would be a piece of cake if he didn’t have to protect little fairy all the time. If she was at least able to walk on her own it would already be a big help.

  6. Is it me or does that spoiler gif suit it perfectly and just make you laugh lol

That, and I think this is all prep work so that his body can just withstand the new things…maybe they are that domineering and he needs the tenacity he will gain from the trials.

(New things = I can’t remember name so fml)

  7. I’m getting a little bit annoyed with how autor throws big numbers everywhere. One year for 99999 monsters means one kill every 5 minutes without resting. And Yun Che has less than 6 months, so he has to kill one every 2 minutes. I know i should just enjoy the story, but it gets me everytime.

    1. he will have another lvl up before this trial ends. or the author will give us another lame excuse as the time inside the trial goes slower or some such nonsense. his first waifu is still rotting in a prison with his step dad. he doesn’t have much time to waste like that. and the promise with the princess waifu too.

      1. Azure Dragon’s Big Game Hunt!
1 Kill: 1 True Profound Beast
5 Kills: 1 Spirit Profound Beast
50 Kills: 1 Sky Profound Beast
500 Kills: 1 Emperor Profound Beast
        90000 Kills: 1 Azure Dragon

        1. Hehe…that’s perfect, chad001. it’s very fitting that the Azure Dragon still won’t auto pass Yun Che even if he kills it. He’d still need 9,999 more points. Even in death it would still troll.

  8. it’s not about the number but i think he will complete the 2nd and 3rd trial before the competition and that thought sounds RIDICULOUS and makes Yun Che way too OP!! then again i enjoy OPness so just gotta wait and see 🙂

  9. What i wonder is if Yun Che completes the trial, Little Fairy will, too, acquire the dragon legacy right? It is because of her, trial is harder by twofold so i think it is only logical that she must get it too.

    1. I think it is more likely that, if possible, she’ll “give” her part of the legacy to Yun Che because of her personality, as she did nothing to gain it (furthermore, if she did the trial by herself she would probably be unable to pass even de first trial, so she would think that she is unworthy of it), much like Yun Che got 3 drops of phoenix blood, he might get 2 or more from the dragon.

If not, then yes, she’ll probably acquire the power of the dragon.

  10. There is a point to the time limit. It means if you can’t do it but somehow survive the year then you are good at running away but can’t attack enough. If you die then your not worthy. Though to be straight the previous trial pretty much killed everyone before him. I think the main reason it sounds so hard is because the author threw in Chu YueChan which doubles the already high difficulty. For MC its no biggie if he was solo it would be troll easy. But with little fairy it now becomes something that is hard.

  11. YOU SADISTIC MOTHER F%#@ER!!!!. after i hit next chapter it took me like 4 minutes before i finally stopped laughing enough to breath any decent amount. someone arrest him for attempted murder >:o

  12. I think this is the third trial not the second if you remember in chapter 179 after Yun che entered the teleportation formation the dragon said “Haha, what a good youngster. Even though an astonishing aura of blood and death permeates within his soul, this stage of measuring character and courage, he completely passed.” so i think if he finish this he’ll get the reward !

  13. This is the first time I’ve genuinely been disappointed by the story. I really wanted the conversation to go something like this:

“Congratulations Young human, you’ve passed the first trial. Only…”
    “What’s the matter?”
“Well, the trial wasn’t supposed to be beatable the way you beat it.”
    “What are you talking about?”
“It was supposed to be a trial of willpower, you were basically just supposed to fight until death without losing despair and as long as you never gave up hope even until the last second then you would pass the trial. Any fool can see that was not winnable by mortal standards, just what the hell are they feeding young humans nowadays?”

Buuuuuut, I guess then the dragon wouldn’t look like so much of a sadistic jerk even though he quite clearly is one.

  14. This “trial” is a load of bull. The last 10 chapters were a complete waste of time and now this? I mean 99,999 kills in a year?! Are you kidding me?! Why couldn’t the author just do a time skip to the tournament? Why do we have to sit through 30 chapters of reading about the MC training two or three skills? The way the author drags out simple events and the repetitive arcs is really getting old.

  15. what an inconsistent dragon/ author.. it said that strength doesn’t matter and the trial judge will power and determination? it’s obviously power based.. well, at least the dragon admit it.. i think the author want the MC known to be the only one who passed it.. after all of this power ups.. i hope the author give us more clever scheme now hehehhe..

    1. Strength won’t matter as much because if a practitioner’s strength is low then the enemies he’ll face will be reasonably strong. Willpower is a necessity since the practitioner just has to push themselves and surpass their limits by utilizing their own will and determination to live

    1. 9 is often used as a sacred/revered number in xanxia/wuxia novels. This is because, when counting, after 9 comes 0 and then starts again from 1 representing a never-ending cycle. I’ve seen it used with reference to the phoenixes’ rebirth, samsara, and many other concepts.
