Mobile Redirects Fixed?

Hey guys, just checking – a week or two ago, we put in a stealth-fix that theoretically should have fixed redirect issues on mobile. I’m not going to get too much into the tech, but long story short is the API we were using for adserving was finally updated to be compatible with something called SafeFrame which allows us to use iframes on our ads.  Theoretically, iframe should have completely killed the redirects issue.  Next will be the laggy ads…

Click here to cast your vote and let us know how things are looking. Note that this is specifically for the past week.  Note that this fix is only valid on mobile phones, not iPad for now!  Also feel free to leave a message here!

This is still too techy for the likes of me.

    1. Essentially, there was a problem on the mobile site, where you would be constantly taken off of Wuxiaworld, and dragged to an ad site, for no reason at all. They have changed how the ads work so this won’t happen anymore.

      1. Too much words

I think saying ‘ads are a problem’ would probably get it through my head

    2. Now all you have to do is fix the really shitty BAD ads that keep popping up when I’m on mobile. It’s from some “giveaway” website. I forget because I haven’t used mobile in over a month due to getting redirected and being unable to leave the website until clearing my chrome browser and closing the page multiple times in a day and 3-4 days in a row. Making me lose my spot on my chapter I was reading at the time.

        1. If your on iPhone look for the App called refine in the AppStore. It only works for safari but it’s great. It’s an addblocker that gets rid of all adds. You should look up an installation guide online, but it’s simple. Untill the problem is fixed this should be a good solution, I know it stops WW getting revenue but they should fix their adds. I don’t get any trouble after doing this.

      1. Just use the chrome History tab in the menu, and go back to the page before it bumped you off. That shitty ad does about 6-8 instant redirects, ensuring you can never press “back” fast enough.

    3. well bro, i already no open WW for a long time. it’s always redirect to another else, somehow make my iphone like burning in my hand and also suck my bytes like vampire (remind you before it wasn’t like that). Before it finish loading i stop it before it redirect / crash (it haven’t like that in other site).
because of that i read them indirectly using other site like readlightnovel.

    1. Wouldn’t it be kind of amusing if some bored billionaire actually set up a legit site that looked exactly like a spamsite and actually gave away millions of dollars?

      1. For that error, the solution that worked for me was to go into safari options, advanced options, and turn off JavaScript. It stops ads from being able to load, which were the reasons it kept crashing. I know it isn’t nice to WW but I donate anyway and the crashing was making me almost give up on reading on my phone, which I use far more than a computer to read these stories.

  2. Earlier today the main page and a internal page of WW downloaded for my mobile a file called hbpix.exe

In the web browser as soon i entered the main page, my anti-virus went crazy, i am guessing is the same file that my mobile downloaded, after that my chrome kept trying to execute an update that contained the virus, until i deleted all files from its temp folder.

I dunno if this was before this update, but i hope it got fixed.

  3. Hopefully something will be done about those laggy ads (mostly videos starting to play). It literally took me 2 mins of waiting to click on that ‘here’ cause page froze 🙁

    PS: Mobile user

  4. I haven’t had any issues with adds whatsoever.

Have to say I cheat with an addblocker on my mobile since adds just kill the learning experience for me on mobile.

on PC I’ve had no issues though

    1. and what do you get if you don’t use adblocker?
For example go into facebook and search for the wuxiaworld page. Then click on one of the links that get you to wuxiaworld.com. In the past i got redirected after just a few seconds while being in the facebook browser. Now it seems everything is fine.

  5. Qidian is attacking again. I just know it’s their underhanded, cowardly, gay-tactics this time. they even have d audacity to steal chapters and tell d world it was theirs with a thick face so this redirecting ads are no wonder one of their moves to bring WW down.

those filthy pieces of shiits are desperate because their QI launch is a large failure on their names. they have a very low reputation now and d world will know just how much filthy their faces are.

    pweh…

I’m really disgusted with those fackars.

  6. I’ll give Wuxia World a try on my mobile Chrome browser next time I read to see if it’s better. Up ’til now I’ve been having to use a mobile adblock browser because the ads and redirects were too bad. Also because they took up too much data.

  7. Havent had redirect issues, just page reloading when i select link to chapter and have to choose to open new tab to be able to go to where the link is suposed to send me to. Happens sometimes when i press next chapter too, but not always

  8. Well I used to get redirected all the time in my iPad, to the point where I had to get an Adblock browser to be able to read, and sometimes it’d even redirect in my Adblock, but for the past month or so it hast happened to me anymore, what I would like is no video adds, cause I still have to use Adblock browser cause it drain a lot of my data when I read on phone or use hotspot.

  9. If you still get issues, an imperfect temporary fix is to disable javascript. It has some other minor effects but it fixes most redirects and stuff like that.

    1. I’ve got a crazy idea that may or may not work. Basically, there is this way of overwriting and “catching” certain javascript calls by using a proxy pattern (google it, it can become quite useful).

If you could figure out a way to make sure that when window.location.replace() was called you could make sure it’s not redirecting people on mobile to malicious sites, maybe (would need testing and compatibility checks). Then to catch when window.loaction.href changes you could use a onPopstate() event.

If you had a whitelist for important websites and such you could, as a sort of temporary hotfix, make it so you can’t go to sites other than those. It would be a little hamfisted an prevent other people from visiting external links (exception of the whitelisted ones) which people don’t often need to do on mobile, but it’s definitely preferable to having to deal with a bunch of redirects.

Other than that there might be some ways of dealing with it via PHP that I would need to research on to know for sure. Just thought I’d give that suggestion to fix what seems like a continual problem.

        1. Yeah, sometimes programmers speak in a language that others can’t understand… Much like if you suddenly talked to someone about a character in a Xianxia novel to other people. They may understand bits and pieces but overall they’ll be horribly confused.

      1. If the source of the script is external and the onClick() event is not raised within the iframe area, then block __.replace(), __.assign(), __.pushState(), __.href, etc. Doesn’t need a whitelist because it won’t block legit ads or external-pointing links. Except there are probably a lot of ways to get around that, so, it’s probably better accomplished as an API. Makes me wonder if their SafeFrame API has that feature.

I know steam already has an API that catches all external links with an interstitial, but that requires re-writing every single link on the website… too complex.

  10. I haven’t been redirected last few days, but the bigger problem for me is the constant refreshing ads that kill my data, phone battery and memory. Even as I was typing this on my phone I had to turn my internet off because the page crashed twice

  11. My problem with the tech stuff is page freezes and reloads that happen without rhyme or reason. Sometimes my mobile browser freezes 5 times during 1 chapter, which is frustrating. I can accept 1 freeze during 5 chapters but its too laggy right now on mobile.

  12. Some pages have constantly refreshing ads. When i clicked thia post, i was redirected every single time on mobile. Thank you for attempting to work on it.

  13. I dont have adblock or any app or extention like that on my mobile and I’ve never had any problems with redirects. So I was honestly surprised when i saw this post.

  14. theres no redirect issue with me, but all ads i got is a video, well its not a problem cause im using wifi, but if i read it without wifi… 😀 thats okay ive spare kaching to buy quota hoho

btw, im using samsung mobile internet app and i dont ve redirect issue before and now, maybe its the country where you live on?

  15. I had this problem a while ago in Safari on the Iphone, I temporarily fixed it myself by going to settings and deactivating JavaScript.

I reactivated it over a week ago and it works fine now, prob the patch worked.

  16. When I use Google Chrome with your website on my iphone the browser often crashes. It is really annoying. When I use an ad-free browser there are no problems. Is it possible to fix this?

  17. Hey Ren,

I was wondering, is there anyway to modify the mailing list to only receive messages when a specific series releases a chapter? I love getting notified through email but I don’t read maybe 60% of the series that I’m receiving messages for.

Also, can there be some kind of rating system for the series where the synopsis is located? When I start a new series it’s a bit difficult to just read through each synopsis and guess how good the series is. Maybe like a “(blank)/10” rating or a star rating “” this would be awesome. Love this site BTW 😁

  18. I havnt had any redirects on ads but the site is laggy on my ipad and iphone7 and crashes every couple mins. This has been happening recently and also recurring problem awhile back.

  19. I am always getting the iphone 8 giveaway and i don’t like iphone so it just a random mass group ad scam??. It was good for the past weeks or so but yesterday it started again. Read 20 chapters got it twice which is better than each chapter.

Thank you for the fix or reduction at least. Redirect happening on an intense cliff hanger is bad real bad.

  20. hey ren,
can you put a ranking list for the translated novels and original novels just like gravity because i really want to know what the readers will pick as number one

(this comment might get buried, so to all that want the same thing as i do – Spread the word)

    1. same for me.
I started to use AdBlock browser because of video ad and limited mobile traffic. 1 single page may load 2 day’s worth traffic + lags on page.
Without video ad i will stop using AdBlock browser, bc i like this site and want help it as i can)
      Bad English, i know.

  21. It’s better, but it will still make you spit blood. I think this has hampered your cultivation goals and will probably give you a heart demon. Unless you fix the ease of use for the mobile readers, it will be hard to reach the next level.

  22. New site when?If you arent going to solve the lag/redirect/layout/data usage/battery issues and add features like bookmarking and rating novels people will really start saying “Fuck it” as Justin said and go to Qi after a while.

  23. Redirects did disappear around the time this announcement was made. But I noticed that yesterday, redirects started coming back (the usual “you have a virus” ad and the “you won an amazon gift card” ad).

  24. If anything, things have gotten progressively worse.

It is not just ads that keep crashing my browser on my iphone, which is bad enough, but every 5 reloads i’ll get redirected with no way to get back to the site i was at. It takes me some history browsing just to find that site again.

In short, three out of 5 ads will crash my browser. One out of 5 ads will redirect.

Conclusion? I turned off javascripts when i am on my iphone.
