  Prologue

I’ve been called trash my whole life.

I wasn’t born with any special talent, nor was I better at something than others. So I couldn’t say anything whenever I was called trash. That isn’t to say I never struggled to become better. But at the end of the day, I fell asleep kicking the bed sheets in anger.

This goddamned life.

But for the first time, I found something I was better at than others.

Virtual reality (VR) games!

In real life, I was at the bottom of the food chain. But in the virtual world, I was at the top. Even the so called professional-gamers were mere preys in my eyes.

To top it off, you could gain unimaginable wealth and prestige just by being good at gaming. This was the era of VR games.

I had no hesitation.

To succeed through gaming, I was prepared to give my life. I did anything to accomplish my goals. Everything was fair in the name of success.

In the end, the goal I’ve been striving for was within my reach, just a hair’s breadth away.

Just a bit more, just a bit!

I could have reached my goal in just a bit more…

“Fuckers.”

I never thought my comrades would betray me. The ones I thought would stay by my side until the end.

“Fuck.”

My comrades betrayed me, and in an instant, four years of hard work disappeared into the void.

I tried to fight back, but I was powerless. A hole had been pierced through my stomach, and I even developed sociophobia.

“See if I trust anyone ever again.”

When I was given a chance to start over, I knew what path to take.

“Whatever the outcome, I’ll do it alone… I’ll show you that I can do it alone.”

The Solo Path!

This is how I’ve come to tread this road.

  1. Following this story from when it was on Gravity Tales, I must say EoSP has incredible potential to become a really good read, if it wasn’t for it’s poor editing. I am genuinely interested in becoming an editor for this novel, heck I’ve even taken the initiative to edit the prologue. Here is my edit. EN: I cut the sentence, “Everything was fair in the name of success.” Because according to the context of the novel and the word choice of the phrase, it makes no sense at all.

I’ve been called trash my whole life.

I wasn’t born with any special talent, nor was I better than other people in anything. So I had nothing to say whenever I was called trash. That doesn’t mean I never struggled to improve. In the end of the day, I always fell asleep frustrated, kicking my bed sheets in anger.

    This goddamned life.

    However, this changed.

For the first time in my life, I found something I was better at than others.

    Virtual Reality (VR) games!

In real life, I laid at the very bottom of society. Contrarily, in the virtual world, I stood at the very top. Even so-called pro-gamers were nothing but mere prey in my eyes.

In an era of VR games, unfathomable prestige and wealth could be yours if you were exceptionally good at gaming.

I had no reason to hesitate.

To ensure my success through gaming, I was prepared to give my life. I did anything within my power to realise my dream.

And just when my goal was within reach…

A hair’s breadth away, just a tiny bit further!

I was so close to realising my dream, yet all my effort laid shattered in pieces.

    “You f***ers.”

In the end, I had never thought my comrades would betray me. The ones I thought would stay by my side to the very last moment.

    “F**k.”

My comrades betrayed me, and in an instant, four years of hard work disappeared into the void.
I was betrayed, and in an instant, my four years of blood, sweat and tears vanished. Disappeared.

Powerlessly, I fought in vain against those who had wronged me. A gaping hole had been pierced through my heart, leading to my sociophobia.

“Never, will I trust anyone ever again. Just watch me.”

And when I was given another chance, a fresh, new beginning, I knew what choice to make.

“Whatever I do, I’ll do it myself. I’ll show you all I can do it alone!”

    A one man apocalypse!
    A solitary path!

This is the story of my journey back to the top.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to read this. I would appreciate any feedback (this took me a little over an hour because I did it on an Ipod – finalising and everything).

    1. hey, maybe i’m a bit late, and also maybe people will disagree… but
there is one tiny thing i can think to criticise which is the use of contrarily, i’m certainly no pro but it felt odd having that there, it certainly made sense and i appreciate this is SUPER nit picky but it was the only part i stumbled over and felt didn’t read smoothly. Maybe simpler language might match the rest of your passage better?
Other than that it read so well it felt like it hadn’t been edited at all (which is i think the mark of a great edit)

  2. I like the looks of this. A solo player necromancer… mmm, great premise right there already. I had read around 100 chapters of two other similar vrmmo novels that I loved. Both I think were discontinued or on hiatus. One was with a necromancer, and the other was an undead swordsman I believe. I was just thinking about these two novels in fond yet melancholic memory yesterday, wondering if they had started back up again. Yet, I couldn’t remember their names and failed to find them after an hour of searching.

Yet, suddenly I find this on my favorite webnovel site. I’m really really happy to see korean novels on wuxiaworld and this novel especially will top off that joy perfectly I’m sure.

    1. I am Almost 100% sure the one about an undead swordsman is Virtual World: Unparalleled Under the Sky.

No idea about the other one though…
