Long story short is, no I do not plan to translate it. Here are the main reasons why:

1) I refuse to significantly reduce the chapters per week for ISSTH. I want to finish ISSTH as soon as possible, not cause more delays
2) If I did try to pick up the new novel, I could only translate one or two chapters per week
3) There are a lot of other translators out there who also want to pick up the new book, and I couldn’t compete with them in terms of translation speed (see #1 and #2 above)

Therefore, I will wait and see. If it turns out that no one picks up the new novel (and sticks with it), then I might pick it up and put it on the back burner until I get close to finishing ISSTH.

To be honest, considering how complex ISSTH is, I can’t imagine that his new novel will be any less so. I’m not sure how a translator without access to later parts of the story will handle some of the foreshadowing and long-term plot information that Er Gen likes to throw in early on, only to explain hundreds of chapters later. Good luck to whoever starts the new project.

  1. Thanks DBlade. And I 100% agree with you, especially with your first point. In my opinion, reading a single novel until it finished is better than reading 2 different novel in slower pace.

  2. Maybe you could reserve it or something. Like tell other translators ‘Hey I’m a translate this once I finish ISSTH, but till then you can translate’ Just so you have something to translate once ISSTH is finished.

      1. I disagree. It would be good think, because deathblade’s translations are of superior quality and he also knows author style so it wil be probably better then other translators.
I’ve seen a lot novels that were wasted by bad translator.

        1. Deathblade translations are good, and it would give him an advantage in the case he wants to pick the project. But it would take him months to finish ISSTH, if it was some weeks or one or 2 months, maybe it would be possible to act, but I’m not even sure he would be finished in one year. Even if he is a good translator, you can’t really ask people to wait one year just for this reason.

          1. With his speed after half a year of translations there would be more chapters then after 1,5 year of someone else ;P Of course that depends on translator, because there are few who are also fast.
Also: “I’m not sure how a translator without access to later parts of the story will handle some of the foreshadowing and long-term plot information that Er Gen likes to throw in early on, only to explain hundreds of chapters later.”

Sometimes it is better to wait.

  3. I agree, it’s most probably better to pick up Er Gen’s next series only after the chapters have accumulated quite a bit otherwise it’ll be very possible making mistakes translating as you said, Deathblade.

  4. Would be funny if Er Gen reread his own work and picked out bits that looked like that could be foreshadowing and wrote stories around that XDDD

  5. Glad to hear that you’re sticking with Haowie until the end,
wonder how many translators will fight to be the first to release a chapter of his new series
